Thanks OP. I was planning to get a 1TB when there was a price drop, but this was so cheap for a 2TB. Cheapest it has ever been according to Camels: https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B087DG39V8

  • is there any warranty ordering from Amazon UK?

    • +1

I assume Amazon covers warranty, but I am not sure. It says 3 years warranty.

    • +2

There's warranty but unless it mentions free returns the biggest cost I found was postage to Scotland. Ended up costing me like $70 just to return a pair of headphones.

  • +2

Wow! This price is absolutely amazing, the $260 deal a month ago was good. What is going on with SSD prices !

    • +3

I just ordered another one, Amazon were nice enough to refund me the difference of $37.00 from my second order a month ago :)

Really quite impressed with their service so far, happy Prime customer.

      • +2

Your lucky. Ive tried to get refund of the difference when i haven't even received an order and they say no.

        • +3

          yeah, had similar experience.
Told me they will not refund the difference even for item that was delivered same week.
Just return / refund / reorder.

      • I just tried this and it worked!

    • Potentially a wave of PCIe 5.0 SSDs are coming, so hopefully we'll see a lot of deals over the next few months.

  • Does this have garbage collection when used with xbox one x?

The Red one has some very unusual features for an SSD:
    Hard Drive Interface: USB 3.0
    Hard Drive Rotational Speed: ‎7200
    Optical Drive Type: ‎DVD
    Power Source: ‎Hand-operated
Batteries: ‎1 Lithium Ion batteries required.

The Blue one uses a slightly newer interface, but isn't so clear about the batteries:
    Hard Drive Interface: ‎USB 3.2
    Batteries: ‎1 Unknown batteries required.

But at least both of them are supplied with the added bonus of:
Language: ‎English, English, English, English, English

Dang it's only as fast as you can crank it…

    • +1

      Don't think they have batteries

Thanks OP. Was looking to upgrade internal SSD. Perfect timing.

    • +1

Does it mean you will shuck this? Genuine question.

I wonder whether the internal part is nvme drive or not

      • +2

The T5 was just a regular mSATA SSD socketed into a PCB, so you could technically shuck those. The T7 is all custom though.

    • +3

Internal drive upgrade? You are looking at a wrong product! There isn’t a detachable m.2 SSD in there!

      • +1

He got confused bettwen nvme and ssd

        • +1

Nvme and SATA. They are both SSD technically.

    • +1

The T7 is not at all suited for shucking. This is DRAMless and it’s MLC. Pretty much useless as an internal drive.

Even at this price, not good value for an internal drive either. You could get a proper internal SSD like a Crucial P5 2TB which is TLC with DRAM for example which is more than 3x faster and can actually maintain those speeds under sustained writes. You can get it atm for $245 and it’s sold by Amazon AU so it’ll arrive in two days.

T7s are great. I have a few. Best external drive imo. Love how small they are and the unibody aluminium shell. They’re the reason I stopped using internal drives in a $10 enclosure as my external drives - just because of how sleek and small the T7s are. But you don’t get any of those benefits if you shuck it and there’s really no reason to, as it’s significantly slower and lower endurance than a real SSD and barely any cheaper at $229 (and ordinarily far more expensive).

Once the write cache fills the T7’s manage about 500-600Mbps. A few GBs is enough to slow it down. P5 will continue writing hundreds of GBs at well over 3000Mbps. A Samsung drive would be even better. Obviously more expensive though.

  • Has anyone used this with a PS5?

    • +5

It works with PS5, but only for PS4 games. Internal SSD is required for PS5 games.

      • That's unfortunate. Thanks!

        • +1

You can store PS5 games on this disk and move them to internal drive when you are ready to play. Takes a few minutes to copy.

  • How is this compare to the Samsung T7 Shield SSD? Do they have same speed / buffer on top of that shield?

Was waiting for the 2TB Shield version to drop… but this price is very tempting..

  • +1

Spewing! I paid $278 2 days ago. It was a reasonable deal then but this is a new historical low price. Oh well…..

    • If you bought from Amazon ask for price difference refund !

  • its good deal.

  • Looks like red is OOS now too - it's linking back to the AU page ($349)

    • You can still manually add the uk seller/sale price to your cart, but it currently seems to say 1-2months dispatch time.

  • Will this work with a NVIDIA shield?

  • +1

2TB in blue is in stock for $229.69 free shipping at Amazon UK (I clicked "Available at a lower price from other sellers that may not offer free Prime delivery." and placed order).

    • Is your blue order showing up though, cant see mine in my order list
