Hi StewBalls, I'm disappointed you find this post spammy. I tried to keep it relevant by listing the offer, applicable product categories, end date, and a selection of specific products as listed in our catalogue. Can you suggest a way I might improve it?

Hi StewBalls, I'm disappointed you find this post spammy

We're disappointed you posted an advertisment instead of a deal

        • Couldn't have said it better myself jv! :)

Can you suggest a way I might improve it?

Listing some actual bargains would be a good start! You can post all the links to your cattledog that you like over at Lasoo OP…

    SPAM

    • Not even the good kind either…now I'm hungry!

      • there's a good kind of spam? if you are referring to crap in a can, I wish I had your tastebuds because then I would be happy eating cardboard.

  • Everyday prices are bloody funny

  • This has the potential to be quite a good deal if you're in SA and in the market for two things that aren't often discounted. A lot of ifs, but potentially good for someone.

    • You've never seen Radio Rentals prices have you Hessian Sack?

      • Either that or HS has a lot of kidneys to sell! :p

I shopped around when buying a fridge about 4 months ago, and Radio Rentals had the model I wanted at the best price.

Other items, I've attempted to haggle and got absolutely nowhere - for example when I was only offered $50 off a display model plasma, when they had actually sold that particular model for ~$150 cheaper (display or otherwise) a week earlier.

The PlayTV and Uncharted deals posted by the OP are pretty good. You could get Uncharted 3 plus a PlayTV for $60-65ish. I paid more for Uncharted 3 by itself a few months ago.

Ultimately, this is a case of knowing what is a good deal and what isn't on the particular items you're interested in.

can't see any good deals. post examples of what is actually the good deal here

@pmupsinep - Listing updated with specific examples of deals.

  • radio rentals is an appalling business model that has no place in Australia

    • Yeah, that whole rent-try-buy thing is just like baiting the poverty trap!

  • Buying an item at double the price so you can get one at a price that can be found elsewhere isn't a deal.

Play TV deal which is now listed looks good. Can be a tough bunch here. Shoot first and ask questions later.

yeah, It's sad but you'd think a non-rep post would have fared a better response eg along the lines of

"Not for everybody but I just saw this deal for Radio Rentals SA - buy one item get the second half price, playTV for PS3, two for $67.50 (that's $33.75ea) as along as the second item is cheaper it's half price. Have a look anyone see a better deal?"

cos if a big name rep/business posts here it very often gets torched. Of course sock puppeting is bad - I'm just pointing out the community attitude can be very 'crowd think'.

It got negged initially for simply being a link to advertising, which equates to SPAM…any deal like that gets negged for not meeting the posting guidelines. As you'll see, some of us have revoked our negs now that this has been rectified.

That said, there's a couple of ok deals if you're local & wanna do a group buy…but having to buy two of any big ticket item to secure a bargain is on rocky ground at the best of times!

  • I don’t think it is necessarily fair to neg this deal or Radio Rentals.

Disclaimer : I have and never will use their service.

However, on the face of it, it is a 25% off deal for their clientele.

Now consider we go nuts over $5 off when you spend $30 deals, or $40 iTune card for $30 or 25% off Compact Cameras….well this is 25% off as well.

Just because we may think that Rental Purchasing (forget the name now) is not for us does not mean it is a crap deal for those who can only afford to rent white goods.

I am not discussing the morals of renting whitegoods, just the merits of the deal itself.

    • However, on the face of it, it is a 25% off deal for their clientele.

25% off means nothing unless the price after the discount is cheap… If it can be found cheaper elsewhere, then it's not a bargain…

  • I dont normally go there or read their junk mail. (and I love junk mail). Hopefully they have got better but I wouldnt bother putting in the work to find out. I have always found someone with a better deal.

    Hey radio rentals SA,

Why dont you calculate the comparative interest rate for us? Oh wait, it's not so simple to do that, youd have to discount the product value substantially for accuracy since you rent out old, superseded, overseas models or re rentals. That would make the cost to value ratio seem even worse.

Or will you use the 'bundle' argument, that a value cannot be ascribed to the services included with the product? What a smart way to inflate the price! Certainly more ethical than using misleading rrps.

Tell us about your default penalties ( which are amongst the worst in the industry)

And unlike some of your competitors, what happens if a renter wants to keep/ buy the product at the end of the rental term?

If anyone smart enough to be on ozbargain uses your services, I'd be surprised and disappointed.
