Stop gap for AMD to glue 3D v cache onto these by next year

Everything is a stop gap until new tech comes.

The performance gap in gaming to intel or even to the 5800x3D is just too much for the price increase. The CPUs appear to be priced roughly as expected but the motherboards are stupidly costly.

  • 7700X for 550 would be a good deal. But then we need mainstream B650 mobos to go with it.

    • B650 are already up for preorder, Still quite expensive but much better than the X670 boards.

      • I think thier argument is that you buy a mobo and you can upgrade next 3 gens unlike intel. Its true and VFM. But nobody prepared for that kind of downpayment investment especially when there is not much need for much better performance than what the 5000 series already offers, unless you have those 4090 kind of cards, which is a small market.

  • I want to game on PC this year. I just play shooters, so like the new mw2 / warzone and want to hit 200 fps+ on 2k.

Do I stick with a good AM4 build with the 5800x3d or do these games not benefit from the larger cache? I don't really intend on playing anything else atm so this system will be specifically for those games.

Would obviously love an AM5 build but don't want to deal with any issues along the way when my needs are basically what I mentioned above. I've never built a PC so I'm not sure what a good AM4 build would cost and how long I'd get away playing shooters on it with 200 fps+

    • Don't really know yet till the game is released and tested.

The first warzone has issues on AMD with FPS dips that doesn't seems to affect AM5 but it's unknown if warzone 2 will be the same.

Intel 13th gen would be a better idea than a 5800x3d if you don't already have a AM4 motherboard though.

    • I5 13600k looks like a beast, would have no trouble holding well over 200+.

Even my 10600k is enough to push into the 200 range at 1080p with the right card.
