Cheaper than renting. Maybe could WFH if the internet connection is quick enough

    • +2

I remember reading an article about retirees who do just that.. Sail the seas year round as it’s cheaper than paying for a house

      • I remember reading an article about retirees who do just that.. Sail the seas year round as it’s cheaper than paying for a house

Minimum price per cabin is about $300/day for 2 people - $2100/week. And for that you are living in a 15m2 sardine can, eating the exact same food everyday, no no TV, radio or internet and dealing with drunk bogans week in week out? Who is doing this, really?

I've been on a few cruises, they are fun in small doses but there's no way you could get me to spend more than week on one even if you paid me.

  • +9

    Sale ends tonight 12pm

I hope this deal doesn’t expire when I wake up tomorrow morning at 12am

    • I like going to bed at midday.

  • +1

Nothing for the school holidays departing sydney

    • +3

      That's why it's cheap lol

  • -2

@SarahSun is there internet on board? Does the sim data work?

    • You need to pay for internet, I think it’s around 10/15 bucks per day. And the sim data doesn’t work, unless you have roaming enabled and even then I’m not sure if it does.

My brother paid for the internet once, and it was good enough for a Skype.

    • +4

Internet was barely usable on cruises pre-covid. It's worse then on most planes, cost a decent amount and is data limited.

      • +3

Not any more, just worked onboard one over last weekend

    • -1

$15 a day for Streaming top package, if you pre-purchase or buy it discounted from the internet kiosk
It is about 1mbps but is fast enough for streaming or video calling
Sim data does work close to shore, but is charged at roaming rate so will be very expensive

      • +1

Vodafone is $5 a day, so 1/3 of the price.

        • Generally speaking, most telco's ( that i've worked at) do not enable ships at sea/maritime roaming as it cost them a bucket load to allow. They will either restrict it so you cannot access it or charge a much higher amount. These things change over time of course so YMMV. Of course, once you're near land you can attach and roam to those networks.

        • Vodafone is $5 a day,

Not on a ship or aeroplane it's not.

  • Dumb question… Does newborn or toddler count as one? I tried adding kids in buy seems like kids of any age count as one…

    • +6

I tried adding kids in buy seems like kids of any age count as one

      There's your answer.

    • I think it’s better to give them a call to confirm that. What I know is that they can have only a limited number of unvaccinated people onboard including children, when you pay for it, you should let them know asap.

      https://www.pocruises.com.au/plan/know-before-you-go/healthy…

      • The cap on unvaccinated children under the age of 12 has been removed, as the updated eastern seaboard and western Australia cruise protocols released last week no longer require it. Those aged 12 or over must be fully vaccinated unless they have a medical exemption, i.e. they medically cannot be vaccinated

        • -4

That’s a shame. It’s proven the vaccine was a scam.

    • Yep pretty sure that's the norm for cruises.

  • +2

How does this work exactly. The fair pp price shows like $500, but when I see the final price the pp price becomes $1200.
Seems a bit dodgy to me.

    • The twin price that is quoted is then halved per person to make it 4 for the price of 2

      • -1

It isn't though. When you select the room it says $xxx Per Person, but when you add the room it says $XXX x2 per person for passenger 1 and 2. It's so dishonest. There are no free passengers.

        • The deal is for 4 people in one room.

  • +3

11.50 pp per night? Am I missing something? Or is it $460 pp

    • +4

Price in title is per person. Multiply it by 4 and that is the minimum cost.

      • -1

Isn't it multiply it by 2 and then you get 2 more people to share room for free?

        • +1

Yes… but the OP has halved the regular per person price already to cater for the 4 person deal. i.e. got the total price for 2, added the 2 free, then divided that price by 4. The price given isn't actually the twin share price.

    • From the link OP posted it looks like the cheapest 10 night cruise is $920.53 $1838 for a 2 person room

      Which is $460.26 per couple
      $230.13 per person
      $23~ per night per person

Maths is way off and I can't be bothered doing it again

$459.5pp therefore $45 per day pp. Not too bad however I can't seem to activate the deal when adding rooms and people etc. Not sure when it kicks in.

      https://www.pocruises.com.au/cruises/music-cruise/v251

      • +12

That sounds like it. But the op is miss leading $4xx pp buy 2 get 2 free.

I would understand the total $8xx for any 2-4 people

        • +1

Oh they definitely feel like a sockpuppet, I agree.

All of the other "buy 2 get 2 free" just aren't worth it.

  • +2

    where's the $460.26? I can't find it.

    • Price quoted is from 14th November 10 night sailing

      • Where from? The Sydney one was 960…

        • Sydney, you need to set it to quad 4 passengers

  • +4

Someone should change the title. It is impossible to get a room for $460.26.

    • Thanks, added pp

  • +1

Deal isn't working for me. It's adding pasenger 3+4 as $0 but making the fare for passenger 1+2 twice as much! So still the regular price.

  • +1

I feel like I need a pineapple to get any special rate here…

  • Can confirm you need a foursome for the 460rate…

  • +5

It is a dodgy deal. It gives the price per person on the room, making you think you will only pay that for 2 of the 4 passengers. It is actually the price for each of the 4 passengers it just doubles it for passenger 1+2 and makes 3+4 free. DODGY.

  • +1

So if two couples go - you’re shairing the room with both?

    Aka pineapple party?

    • +5

Better than lemon party I guess

      • +1

        I disagree

  • The title is actually a bit confusing. It is more like 4 people for $1800 OR $900 pp and buy 2 get 2 free deal.

    • So 4 people $1800 cruise is not bad?

  • Is Peninsular and Oriental (P&O) reputable?

    • +1

Is that what it stands for?! I always thought it was Pissups & Orgies!

      • +5

Suddenly interested in cruising for the first time ever

  • so.. with the deal or without the deal, Would the total price for 4 people in one room be same?
Or, can someone confirm that it's usually double the price without this promo? This is hella confusing. :)

    • +1

Cruise pricing varies a bit - it doesn't stay the same the whole time bookings are open. Reason I say that is it probably wouldn't be actually double the price outside this promo. 3rd and 4th are cheaper than the first two with regular pricing (since they share the same room, so no extra space taken). Cruise pricing is normally based on twin share, not quad share.

That said, this would be close to the regular price for 2, and then 3rd and 4th might be say $500 each on top. So probably something like $2800 ($1800 + $500 + 500) for 4.

  • +4

Sound like if someone brought a starlink onboard, they would make some money setting up a wifi network

  • +4

Its simply $460.26pp and you need a minimum of 4 people. That the simplest way of explaining this deal.

Forget about the B1G1 free or B2G2 free advertising.

    • Yep.
      10 days, 4 people, ~$2000 with internet.
      Not bad.

  • +10

So basically the cruise is going to be full of tightarse Ozbargainers. Imagine the line up at the bar; How much for a martini? What about if I order 4 of them?
Is there a discount at breakfast if we get there early like 6 am or earlier?
Got 3 kids, little ones, they're happy to sleep in the one bunk. Can we get a discount?
    Etc etc

  • +7

It is not buy 2 get 2 free, called and argued that the price shows says $383 PER PERSON, yet on the confirmation page it is $767 for passengers 1 and 2 and is dishonestly advertised. She said that is the price per person when you account at the cabin cost is $1500, but I said it is not advertised per cabin, its per person per room. she would not budge.
    False advertising.

  • It is always cheap when I cannot make it in school days.

  • Is it ok to book 3 adults and 1 child but only fill the room with 2 adults 1 child? For the drinks package it wants to add everyone rather than just individually.

    • You can just book 2 adults, 1 child if that's all you want to go. It may even be a fraction cheaper due to some port charges (taxes) may be reduced.

This deal pricing is the base price of 2, with 3rd and 4th free. So whether 2, 3 or 4 will be the same total cost. Note that the per person cost in the OP is based on 4, so total cost / 4. If 3 go total will be the same.

  • +2

can I just pay for 4 people and only 2 show up?

    • Yes - but you may as well just book for 2 then. The price given is the total cost whether 2, 3 or 4, since 3rd and 4th are free.

  • anyone able to get b2g2 offer?

    • Nah I'm getting charged for all 4 passengers

  • Followed above steps. Still getting charged around $600 for the 3rd and 4th person. Mine totals to just over 3k for 4 people

  • Avoid P&O Cruises IF YOU CAN !!!
It's not safe for kids !!!
When my son was injured by a fixed-to-ground bar at the entrance of its kids playroom, there was no sorry to my family. And what made it worse was that a doggy doctor said she would check my son's injury for free, but charged us afterwards.

Worst ever experience in my life !!!

    • A doggy doctor? Aka a vet?

      • The doggy female doctor (actually one of the Cruise cheaters) said she would check my son's nose because it's her responsibility to keep kids healthy and promised no charged to us.
But after the check she asked me to sign "only for confirming the check was done". Then when I checked out in the chaos I found my credit card had been charged without my knowledge and I had to go back to the cruise's reception to queue and to argue for it.
Had never ever imagined anyone with a doctor title lying, and extra time wasted.

  • Does quad share mean two sets of bunk beds in the one room?

i.e. Parents + wife + I will share one room with 4 single beds (configured in a bunk) and we all sleep in the same open room together?

    • +1

      as per the pictures, yes

  • tried to book to rooms last night before the end of the sale. their website is a piece of shit and does not work at all. Rang them this morning and they said tough luck.
I dont think i want to travel with this company anymore, they are terrible.

    • Lucky you made the correct choice eventually.

  • How bad is covid on these cruises still?

    • As you know Covid is over. Politicians told us. But Ebola is about to make a killing.
