Perfect timing for the snow season, anyone?

    • Already booked it with Virgin AU from earlier deal for $200 I think but yeah I'm going during snow season.

      The capital of awesomeness

Sorry, late night copy & paste, didn't realise Gold Coast is capital city now :p Fixed :)

      • +9

The capital of douche-bags, dole-bluggers and Paris Hilton wannabes. Not sure any of that's awesome.

        • -2

          Gold Coast >>> Brisbane.

        • Size? no
          Economy? no
          Safety? no
          Culture? no

  • if only it was direct to queenstown…

    • +2

one of the highlights of going to queenstown is doing the drive from christchurch to queenstown. obviously personal choice and time dependent, but i'd love to head to queenstown by just doing the drive from christchurch.

      • The drive is definitely a highlight, I just don't have time this year. Never enough annual leave!

        • the drive is all good, means i have to wait an extra 6 or so hours for Fergburger lol

    • Fly to Auckland and book a cheap domestic to Queenstown, or take the advice of poster above and drive in from Christchurch.

    • domestic flights to QT are dirt cheap..

But yes the drive is very nice, just don't do it straight after flying in to CC at midnight like I did last year ;p

  • is $218 considered bargain price syd-auckland?

    • +2

For a return flight Sydney-Auckland it doesn't get much cheaper, I vote yes it's a bargain. Will book myself a couple tix for later this year.

You do realise that this is SYD -> AUCKLAND -> SYD (and inc taxes) don't you? You're lucky if you can get a return SYD - BNE for that!

      • yes i read it is return. just not familiar with oz-nz prices. i thougth there was a deal few months ago and cant remember which and how much

  • Wellington misses out again. :-(

    • +1

Wellington was on the list originally but it got the boot.

Unless you've got relatives or something, i don't see any other reason why you will want to go to Willington.

I consider Auckland the capital city, really nice. And yeah, definately good prices.

    • If you're travelling O/S to see Auckland, it would be similar and cheaper just to do a day tour of Sydney.

  • Make sure to check Air New Zealand and Virgin as well - I checked in August and the return flight back to Sydney from Christchurch was $90 on Air NZ!

  • I'm pretty sure it's a requirement these days to include all taxes and surcharges in the price of a plane ticket, so there's no use saying "including tax".

    • tiger isnot.

      • No, they include taxes (for domestic flights sold on their Australian site anyway)

  • do jetstar normally have sale during end of financial year?

    say, around July.

    • +1

the financial year ends 30JUNE, so they wouldnt have a eofys in July

  • sweet - NZ here i come!

  • dont forget to add your departure tax of $55 :-( p/p

    • +1

I'm pretty sure all departure taxes are now included in the ticket price. Flew out of Christchurch in March and no extra taxes payable then.

  • awesome, will book this.!! THANKS OP

How fars the drive from christchurch to queens town.

I have been told by everyone if only staying for few days. queens town is the place to be.

    • +1

450 km. Beautiful scenery all the way. Just did it 2 weeks ago.

If you want to do direct, I'd say it'll be an 8-9 hr drive if stopping taking breaks, photos etc. In winters the roads might be icy, so add for a bit more time.

My advice is to stay in Lake Tekapo for the first night. Go to the hot springs, take a few walks.

The next day, head to Mt. Cook, do your walks, look at the head of the glacier and then later that day leave for Qtown which should be a 3-3.5 hr drive.

Or else skip Mt Cook and just go Tekapo - Qtown.

      • thanks,
how much was car rental? so i know an estimate.
That be a great walk but i will be going in august. and i think most will be covered in snow. so no walks i guess?

  • Might have a cheap holiday in Auckland at this price as I've always wanted to see NZ. Can stay in dormitories for $15 per night.

  • If only I had someone to go with.

    • Just stay in dorms like I do. You will meet heaps of cool people and will have total freedom to do what you want.

  • I would like to book this flight but hate paying for travel insurance, even though I probably don't need it I should get it. I don't have a CC but my father has one and If I use it to pay for the flight due you think I can claim for the free travel insurance? He is the sole account holder of the CC, not myself so I am unsure if they allow this.

    • No pay for travel insurance. Don't risk it. Don't be yet another stupid Australian when it comes to travel.

      • No, I just hate giving my money to fat-cat billionaire corporate insurance companies.
