Boosted Console Trade-in Values (eg PS4 Pro - $300, Xbox One X - $250) + Your EB World Trade Bonus @ EB Games

920

Just saw this tweet, some decent trade in returns at EB games at the moment.

Especially if you're looking to get a next gen console, now's the time to backup your data and get a good amount back before upgrading.

Yes yes you can probably get a little more selling privately, but the difference is small enough to avoid the hassle.

Probably wouldn't suggest trading in the PS5 Disc Edition/Switch OLED for that amount but the rest have decent returns.

Also extra note that your EB World Level Bonus is added on top of these.

Do you know if I have to use the trade in credits immediately or I can have it saved on my account?

    • +2

I traded in some games recently and they gave me the amount straight into my bank account.

Assume this would be the same.

    • +1

Depends on the state you are in.

    • +2

Depends on the states. Those in VIC and QLD reported they could get cash.

The rest had to use on the spot (staff may let you park the credit on a pre order)

      • +1

Could you at least use it straight away on an EB gift card?

I'm in VIC and they offered cash or a gift card last time.

        • +1

Not on EB, can use on other GCs.

They said they treat EB GCs the same as cash as per law.

    • +1

It seems to vary depending on state - here in NSW they expect you to spend all the trade-in credit on the spot. Some employees will let you dump it towards a pre-order, meaning you can choose to use that allocated store credit sometime in the future (obviously before the pre-order is fulfilled).

      • before the pre-order is fulfilled

I’ve dumped on preorders before and then just cancelled the preorders and moved to another pre-order should the item I’m parking credit on either ship or get close to shipping.

    • +2

NSW: use immediately only on games, consoles and accessories.
      VIC: cash
      ACT: ebgames gift cards

      • +3

        WA: Use immediately

      • SA: Cash

      • NT: payment straight to your bank account.

    • I can confirm that they just put the amount into my account. This is in Vic.

  • Be good if they offered Cash

    • +1

They do, but up to a certain amount. Anything more would need to go into a card.

  • +3

and, the calculation of level-up bonus seems incorrect.

    • Oops my bad, I'll fix it now.

Excel auto-fill didn't do it properly!

  • +2

those numbers for level 3,4,5 are incorrect

  • +2

Something is wrong with your table. Your discounts are compounding. They definitely aren't giving more than retail as your table suggests.

    • Lol, I thought it was just me - every level 5 member who owes a switch would be trading it in

  • +1

Sorry all, updated the table now to the correct values.

    • Series S ?

      • Series S wasn't in the tweet image so I assume it wasn't boosted.

      • +2

$260 base on Series S, + level bonus

Got $299 for mine (level 3)

  • Could you guys please confirm if EB world level bonus does add on top? Few months back a similar boosted trade-in offer for Switch (non-OLED), the store manager from EB games Sydney central rejected it by quoting “not to be combined with any other offer”, and turned me away. Also the trade-in credit must be spent on the spot excluding gift cards.

    • +1

It says it in the tweet image.

I had a similar issue when I went to trade in my PS4 against my PS5 pre-order, he seemed adamant that I wouldn't get my bonus even though it also stated on the pre-order page at the time.

Eventually just decided to go through with it, but then he called me afterwards and realised he was wrong so I went back and they refunded the difference.

    • +1

I think for that particular promo there was a disclaimer that EB World doesn't apply.

But for this one, the promo banner does say + EB World Bonus.

  • Are those bonuses correct? Do they actually multiply the percentage of the already boosted price for the previous level?

    edit
Nevermind. They have been fixed now.

  • +1

What are the non boosted values? Specifically for the PS4 Pro

    • -1

Thank you to the person who could neg me but not answer my question, which I'm assuming is misguided. Are the boosts referring to the EB World levels?

    • +1

$240 is non boosted - this was the value if you trade-in a complete PS4 Pro outside of the promotion period (as of yesterday, which may change at anytime).

  • No mention of a PS5 Discless or a Xbox Series S

    • Selected consoles only

      • Damn this sucks really wanted rid of this series s.

        • if you were in western sydney i'd buy it off you

  • Oh wow, this is nice. Is there a limit of how many consoles I can trade in at EbGames?

    • Two per day, and up to discretion of the counter person.

"It's aimed for people trading in personal devices, so shops etc cannot offload their stock in store." is what my local EB staft told me when I tried trading three consoles in.

      • Thanks!!

Does anyone know if there is a little scratch etc, will they deduct the trade in value?

        • Depends on the staff you are seeing.

  • Not to bad, trade in the series X or ps5 pay the difference and have another 2 years of consumer warranty…

    • Series X maybe, but PS5 disc would be better to hold onto the pre-price hike and chip change.

    • I'd back my Series X to easily last another 2 years… $200 seems a lot for a warranty on a console that's not even 2 years old… the PS5 on the other hand jeeze that thing seems glue'd together in comparison but I'll take my chances ;)

  • +3

Almost seems bizarre, I bought a PS4 Pro with second DS4 for $499 almost 4 and a half years ago and could get most of that back now, 2 years into the next console generation.

  • +1

    No Playstation 4 Slim - 1Tb on the list…

  • They have upped their values. I traded in a xbox 1 x earlier this year and only got $240 with the level 4 bonus

    • This is only for the promo duration. I believe all consoles has been bumped by $40.

  • I bought my new Switch OLEDs for ~$395 after discounts/discounted gift cards. Sold a couple of Switch V2s for $300 each. Might be worth it if you're level 3+ (especially if level 5) and can get cash.

  • -1

    How about old games?

  • I've got the ps4 disc eject issue. Does anyone know if EB can refurb this for the trade in? What happens if I don't tell them?

    • +1

Every single time I’ve ever traded in a console (namely during these boosted trade in promotions), they’ve never physically checked or turned on the device. They’re main concern is that the relevant cables are supplied as part of the trade in.

      • And it's physically presentable, with no obvious stains, ripped off thumbsticks or the like.

    • I traded my ori PS4 with same disc eject issue towards PS5, they only checked if you have the complete set. got full trade value.

  • Does anyone know how much they will take off the switch lite if you don’t have the charger?

  • Anyone happen to know the going rate for an OG Xbox One 1tb?

    • +2

It's usually $10 more than the 500gb, so I would assume it'll be $160 now.

  • I have a birthday 50% extra trade-in credit, how will that work?

it says: Bring this voucher to any EB Games store and be treated to 50% Extra Trade Credit when you trade any games and accessories. I'm assuming it doesnt stack with my level 3?

    • Games & Accessories aren't consoles…

      • +1

I figured a console is a gaming accessory lol oh well

        • That'd be too good to be true lol.

It will say somewhere in the email normally that offer excludes console.

    • Happy birthday. I had one too. But I think it won't stack.

  • Can someone please hit me up with their membership so I can up trade :) thanks

    • Trading in requires ID so you may want to go in person with them.

    • I've got a level 4, I took a screenshot of the barcode from their app yeeeeears ago, I've gotta go dig it up sometime tonight for a mate to dump his Xbone on them with this deal, I'll shoot you the PNG if you want. Should be fine, I've let a good 3 or 4 friends use mine with no issue, one in Tassie too no less (though to be fair, in 2012 I did live in Tassie for a good while so maybe they're not shocked to see it ping there)

      • Wait that works?

        What about Victorians for cash?

      • Hey mate, if you could send a screenshot through of your membership, that'd be much appreciated! EB said they would not check ID for the trade-in bonus

  • Wonder how much for an original Xbox with chip and upgraded hard drive with games on it? And Halo (1). 🙂

    • They don’t value limited editions and upgraded Hd differently.

      • Let alone an original Xbox. Very few would want the Duke controller.

    • +1

Hang on to it. They're so worthless right now they'll only go up.

      • Heh yeah. Might be 10 years away but it’s not taking up much space.

    • They don't buy or sell OG xbox consoles anymore.

  • Would it be ok to grab a friend's EBGAMES card or get a photo of it to trade it in?

  • i got xbox 360 E 500gb with kinect and 2 original controllers.. do you think i could get anything for that?

    • +2

Pretty sure they no longer trade or sell anything older than Xbox One, PS4 & Switch since sometime last year.

  • Does it matter if I have an SSD installed in my ps4 pro? Cbf looking for the original hd

Also how do trade ins work? Can I take it in tomorrow and get gift cards to use towards a ps5 pre order?

    • matter if I have an SSD installed

They will still accept the trade, but you won't get any extra value. still same price as a stock Pro with HDD
My advice would be take it out and swap in a regular HDD. otherwise you're effectively giving the SSD away for free.

      • Hmm I think I have an idea where I’ve put it. Might have a use for it at some point, cheers

        • You don't need the factory drive. Any HDD of the same size will do.
An unscrupulous person might even grab the cheapest crappiest 1TB drive to swap in…

  • no love for OG PS4 1TB? thats what i got

    • Can confirm base rate for OG 1TB is $220. Received $264 with my Level 4…

  • +1

Good to see the Xbox one S 500gb is still worth more than what I paid for it in 2017 ! :-)

    • I've got games stored on a Samsung SSD. Anyone knows whether I can hot swap with a next gen without having to download everything again?
I did get a notification asking if I was planning to play on several consoles with that hard drive but I discarded it…

      • +1

Yes, you can play xbox one games off the SSD when plugged into Xbox series.

For some games that are X|S optimised it will look to update and move them to internal (You cant play X|S games off the external) but you dont have to do this.

        • Awesome, thanks for confirming

  • I held onto my PS4 Pro when I got my PS5, and think I'll keep it for the time being. Simply because PS5's are still in short supply (although it seems to be improving). If my PS5 drops dead I can at least go back to the PS4 so I've got something to play until I can replace the PS5. It's either that or start working through my Epic store pile of shame, but that's too frightening to contemplate.

    • Your PS4 Pro can still remote play the PS5 so you can treat it as a second pseudo-PS5 if someone else is using your TV or you want to play elsewhere.

  • Silly question, I have a PS4 1T, the hard drive died the other day and I put my PS3 hard drive (250GB) just to turn it on.
Would they turn the console on at the time of trade in? Do I put the 1T HHD back in? The system turns on but does not load anything.
I do have a PS5 and would rather get rid of PS4 before it stays with me like my PS3.

    • +1

when I trade the ps4, they plugged in the ps4 only to check if there is a disc inside, so you can just put the 1TB HDD.

you have to provide ID and address though , so there is a chance they might contact you if there is major defect with the console

  • +1

I remember paying to EBgames $1000 back in march 2007 for a PS3 I still have the receipt for memory.

  • Anyone know if i can trade in my console for a new one with this offer and they'll also price match BigW/JB etc. at the same time?

    • New one as in?

They don't price match on consoles.

  • Please advise me, I have PS4 Slim 500gb with $250 trade in offer, should I trade in for Xbox Series S for extra $249 Thanks again!

    • nope youll be pretty disappointed…

discless, and the fact you are digital only means everything has to be installed…. 500gb does not get you very far.

also performance wise? you are better off getting cash for your ps4 and handing another 50 bucks for an xbox one x… its more powerful

  • Good deal!

I'm gonna trade in my PS4 500GB and Switch for a Switch OLED on Lv 4 membership later :)

    • I did trade in and got 375 total including games. I stopped disk based buying games since last one year so i am pretty good with digital. Its fast and gamepass is great as you can play through cloud as well.

  • Went into the EB near work in Brisbane and was advised that you just need a controller, hdmi cable and power cable and that they will put money straight on your card if you don't want store credit.
They did also confirm the 2 consoles per day limit to stop second hand shops from trying to dump stock for a cash injection.

Prices are also dependent on HDD size not whether its a special edition(I want to trade in my gears of war 2tb one s as I haven't turned it on since getting the one x… which I am also trading as it hasn't been turned on since I got the series x).

    • Do you know whether not having an original box affect the trade value? I don't have the box since I took it from a family member

      • No.
