Ryzen 5 7600X 6 Core Processor
Ryzen 7 7700X 8 Core Processor
This is not fair as 7000x draws a ton of extra power and runs a real good OC out of the box.
Yeah this time AMD didnt hold back, went full Intel for higher initial benchmark numbers.
My 5900x (I bought off a deal here for $500) hits 23.5k on Cinebench R23, while most mainstream bench markers (i.e. HUB) show it only hitting 20k.
Stock 7900x hits 29.3k on Cinebench R23, with tuning (PBO, CO etc) could be higher.
So there is definitely an improvement over the 5000 series, your post is claiming like it isnt.
I do agree thought that at 1440p or 4K gaming, its probably worth waiting skipping a gen or waiting for X3D versions, unless you want to get in the buy/sell retain value for next purchase cycle
I said the performance isn't worth the platform rebuild, not that the gains are minor, and that the benchmarks are skewed to Zen 4s favour as its not an even matchup.
Secondly, that the 7900x is not worth the extra $400 over a 5900x
Yeah I got negged to hell and back saying the same thing a week or two ago.
Yet, here we are, Hardware Unboxed talking about the average sales.

People have realised they quite frankly don't need to upgrade for gaming. The 5800x3d is all anyone on an AMD platform should need. Not $1k to switch platforms….
The 7900x and 7950x still cheaper at BPC
Ordered a snapdragon powered chrombook, bye Intel
Ordered pen and paper from office works, bye snapdragons.
you can just install chrome OS on your old laptop instead of buying this garbage
Anyone have an details why the new AMD mobos are so expensive theses days, looks like they start at 499$ minimum. Is it a supply vs demand thing?
Wait for the B650/E coming in next week.
Given there seems to be bugger-all demand I reckon AMD just got greedy.
I recall reading somewhere that. The prices are high because they didnt have much time to distribute them by sea frieght. Most have been transported by Airfreight to be first in the door.
Prices probably wont drop for another 2-5 months.
I hate to rag on these incredible CPU's but the AM5 price to performance is a bit meh considering the investment needed for DDR5 and new B650/X670 mobo platform. 3000 and 5000 series still offer the best value and will run games comfortably for the next 5+ years. Content creators on the other hand - giggidy.
Garbage value cpus rn. I'd wait 2-3 months, raptor lake will be out by then, amd will have their more budget motherboards out and 7xxx3D should be announced. DDR5 should also be a smidgen cheaper.
Cheapest motherboard is 500 bucks atm…
Wait for the next Intel CPU. They come with MMX technology.
Hmm I wasn't planning to upgrade to AM5 before, using ryzen 3600 + nvidia 1660 right now. I have a 4k 144Hz monitor and only do esport gaming (csgo + LoL) at the moment so it's working fine, but plan to do some AAA game in the future so decide to upgrade. At first I'm thinking about 5800x3D with a sub 1k gpu (probably 3080/6900xt at most, no new gen gpu). However my cousin order an extra AM5 motherboard (MSI pro X670-P wifi) and can't refund/return it (pre-order from Mwave I believe) so he decides to sell it to me at 450~ish. Therefore I think it's worth a shot to upgrade to AM5 anyways.
My question is: Is it worth to go for 7900/7950x or just stay with 7600/7700x? Personally I want to go with the later because the budget for AM5 is a lot more than my original upgrade plan already. But general consensus right now is that AM5 upgrade is too expensive for "budget" CPU and only the Ryzen 9 worth the money so I'm hesitating.
If what you've got currently suits your current needs, why not wait a few months for B650 mobos to drop, Ryzen 7000 prices to lower across the board, and probably save yourself even more money? Those AAA games will still be there by then, and you'll have a system that you can upgrade again in a few years time if necessary.
Mainly I want to help my cousin offload the extra x670 mainboard. And tbh the current situation is good but not great, I still usually got stutter while playing games (both csgo and lol). It's only 1s each time but happen like every 5-10 mins in the game so while not unplayable but it's kinda annoying
Don’t bother with AM5 imo right now,
Upgrade your cpu to a 5000 series now,
And your gpu once Radeon 7000 series launches,
I want to help my cousin offload the x670, that's the main thing.
AM4 does not have PCIe5 technology.
Jumping on this to say, most mainstream benchmarks I've seen bench Ryzen 5000 with PBO OFF!
This is not fair as 7000x draws a ton of extra power and runs a real good OC out of the box.
An undervolt + PBO on Ryzen 5000 + half decent ram, and the performance difference is not worth the platform rebuild.
E.g. My 5900x (I bought off a deal here for $500) hits 23.5k on Cinebench R23, while most mainstream bench markers (i.e. HUB) show it only hitting 20k. Gaming I cant compare as I only have a 3060ti and not a 3090 lol.
Not to mention…they're comparing the products based on RRP, Zen 3 has dropped a lot in price since launch.
Wait for Zen4 3D.
