The unique honeycomb filter design directs and mixes more air through the wet honeycomb filter and pad to help evaporate the water quickly, resulting in cooler, more moisturised air and a dryer honeycomb filter.

I could be wrong, but all this will do is humidify your room/house and not actually provide any real cooling

Swamp coolers can work but they do so by pushing out existing air and replacing it with evaporative cooled air. I don't think this unit does that.

The dew point needs to be below a certain level for effective cooling (relative humidity below a certain point, can't remember off the top of my head)

    • you need to keep a window open for these to work the bet

      • True for larger systems, but these portable units do not have the power to push that much air out

Any evaporative coolers are useless. They cool NOTHING. it should be illegal to call them coolers, a total waste of money.

Lol , these do actually work but only if you are in a dry climate like WA. No good on the east coast of Aus

    • useless… cool NOTHING… a total waste of money.

      Where you live!

Work great in hot low humidity, especially arid areas - generally found well away from the coast.
Often see large ducted units on roof top of houses there.

Much more cost effective than aircon for cooling in right location.

But most of the population in Oz live near the coast, where these are usually unsuited.

    I need the N model !

transforms hot and dry air into a refreshing breeze so you can escape the sweltering humidity outside

This seems to be aimed at a a very niche market of people living in homes that are hot and dry inside but with sweltering humidity outside!

Perhaps if you had one of those old English coal/wood powered ovens like an AGA and lived somewhere humid. Then maybe the oven would dry out the air in your house sufficiently for this to be effective in a humid location.

They can be helpful if you live somewhere hot and really dry though

I was about to make the same comment - that description makes no sense at all.

  • I hear these things are awfully loud?

Is there a chance the track could bend?

Who buys a cooler in October?

    • +1

People who are preparing for summer.

    • Someone living in a much warner place than you in Melb at the moment!

Temp is in the high 30's in a few days - for some in Northern Australia. These work well in hot low humidity areas away from the coast.

  • So this works as a portable aircon or what? People in the know, please list the pros & cons and is there a more viable alternative in cooling a room ala the portable kind?

    • +1

Unless you live in a particularly dry climate don't even think about it.

Do some googling to understand better.

Proper portable aircons work but are either very noisy or extremely noisy. Plus not very energy efficient. You can do some makeshift ducting and put the actual unit outside of the room your trying to cool. This makes it much more efficient and keeps the noise further away. But is a bit of work and really depends on what the situation is with your adjacent rooms/outdoor area.

Window units can be a decent option if suitable for your situation

My wife bought this for me when I was working from home..

It is pretty much a fan. The only time it will slightly cool you down is when you fill the tank with ice. The ice melts really quick and is just really inconvenient. If you're looking for a portable aircon this isn't it.

This Is just an expensive fan which is loud.

  • +1

just use a fan with a block of ice in front of it, works better than this

    • Instead of adding cold water to a fan, why not just drink the cold water and sit in front of a normal fan for a little while? It will cool you down more.

  • +1

As others have said, wouldn't it be cheaper to use a fan and drink water? Also Kogan's cs support is terrible to death with, so it's not worth it imo
