Was looking at this this morning and it was 159 (30% off) and then checked back randomly about 20 minutes ago and it's now down to 127.90, which appears to be cheapest it's ever been on amazon? (camelcamelcamel still showing this mornings old price for me atm).

In good ozb form I obviously price matched this over the phone with office works and got it down to 121.50 ready for click and collect (47%ish off rrp?)

The main reason for buying this keyboard is due to it being compatible with the keyboard tracking oculus quest 2, as sometimes I like to pretend i'm dying in outerspace, under water or just burning in one of the seven pits of hell while i'm working.

I believe the 'mini' version is currently for sale at about ~70c cheaper if you don't need the numpad.

  • Thanks OP, got one

Damn. That is cheap. Buy now, think later.

    • Dont tell the wife.

  • Thanks OP.

Highly recommended. Been using mine for a few years now. My favourite non-mechanical keyboard.

  • is this good for gaming? FPS? need a quite work/gaming keyboard, the one i have now is loud af.

    • Once I pick mine up I can let you know.. looking at it, and it being non-mechanical, with the reviews it has, I'd lean towards yes - but I guess optimal keyboard for gaming would probably be corded and not wireless

    • +1

I have this keyboard and wouldnt recommend it for gaming. It wont be very responsive for gaming.

    • +3

I'd say this keyboard is more for productivity rather than gaming. Granted it'd depend on what you play. Personally, I'd prefer something wired, MX Keys only works via bluetooth or using the dongle. Bluetooth has dropped out on me, but it's quite rare especially compared to other bluetooth keyboards.

      • Well the dongle would be a lot better than Bluetooth, but still, it’s a productivity keyboard, not dedicated gaming keyboard.

    • I have this and a G915. I swap them over on Friday arvo and back on Monday morning. A gaming keyboard feels a lot more precise and controlled, with this it feels a lot less controlled when trying to peek around a corner or position carefully in a game

    • +1

Picked up from officeworks - about the same sound as a laptop keyboard. has a lot more weight to it than expected, good spacing between the keys too. I'm using the dongle so not really noticing any of the usual issues i'd get from bluetooth, like lag and random missed keys. I don't think it would be terrible for gaming, but as others have said, you'd probably want a corded one for gaming.

    • +1

It has 6 keys rollover, I've yet to hit a limit with multiple presses, but it's possible that my apm isn't fast enough.

With the 33 bucks dongle, the latency isn't noticeable for me, but I'm only sensitive to sub 6 frame latency on controller.

  • Thanks OP! I've had my eye on this for a while, but just couldn't justify the price tag until now.

  • Thanks OP, ordered one. Hope the multi device integration is seamless and can swith between my Macbook and Linux Desktop.

    • +3

Works with my windows laptop and mac mini. I even attached it to my Ipad and all 3 work seamlessly.

      • Works with androids too. And even with ps5 with the dongle.

    • Works perfect. I switch between my mac, windows work laptop and iPad.

So I just recently picked up this keyboard, and while I enjoy it, I do have some bugbears that are worth keeping in mind.

The function keys being a continuous row of keys make it difficult to hit anything in the middle with anything approaching consistency

There's a volume up key to the right of F12 that's not bound to any function key. If you're using the F12 key a lot, while listening to music, be prepared to have your ears blasted with some level of regularity

Similarly, if you use the "-" on the numpad a lot, be ready to lock your computer repeatedly until you get used to it.

Both the second and third issues can be "solved" by binding the vol up and lock button to F12 and - respectively, but it's still annoying till you figure that out.

    • Honestly, that all just sounds like muscle memory issues. That will improve over time as your brain adjusts.

      • +3

If it were the only keyboard I used, maybe. But I use a different keyboard on my home set-up, and hotdesk a fair amount. I can bring this keyboard to most places, but some sites require I use their hardware, which also doesn't help.

  • Damn bought in sept for $147

    Great keyboard though

  • Is this the Aus layout?

    • +2

Yes, the Pattern Name on Amazon says AU Layout

  • +1

Wanted the Mac version, but can't argue with this price (and it still has the combo Mac/PC keys). Who knows, maybe I'll switch back to PC….

Don’t forget that this is only compatible with the unifying receiver, NOT the newer Bolt receiver.

The MX Master 3S uses the Bolt receiver. If you have that mouse, and get this keyboard, you’re going to need to use two USB dongles (or Bluetooth).

For this reason, I went with the MX Mechanical keyboard, which uses the Bolt Receiver.

N.B. The MX Keys for Business keyboard does use the Bolt receiver, so be wary of claims that the ‘MX Keys’ keyboard does use Bolt. Those references are to the Business version (which are rare to find sold solo, and usually only found in bundles with the MX Master 3 (NOT 3S)).

    A mess… 🙃

    • +1

Really not that big of a dealbreaker. Just put your dongles on a cheap USB hub if you're worried about it taking up precious USB ports. Or use Bluetooth. I wouldn't be choosing a keyboard on this factor alone.

    • On the other hand the MX Keys Mini uses Bluetooth or the Bolt receiver.

    • They're going one better by also introducing a new Business combo that updates the mouse to the 3S, apparently under the same name but with "Gen 2" added to the end.

      • I noticed that! Who knows when it will get released. Sigh…

That being said, I like the 3S only for the quiet clicks. 8K DPI is way too sensitive for me.

And I got the MX Mechanical, which I’m really digging.

    • Thanks - wasn't aware that there was a MX Mechanical keyboard. Will keep an eye out now for a deal!

    • Super useful info that I wouldn't have even thought to look into, thank you!

  • Nice. Just ordered one from AZ.

Been on the fence about this for a while.
I've been (still) using K750's on my three daily workstations… 2 at home and 1 x work.
But those are old and needing replacing.
Grabbed one of these to use in my darkest workspace, the backlighting will be great.
    USB-C charging ticks another box.
    Unifying Receiver…. <tick>

Probably should just get two more… but will try one out first. Thanks OP.

    • Just use the same one, it can pair to three devices

  • Could you link the mini? Can’t find it

  • Does it have Print Screen and Pause/Break keys?

  • Charging $159 on checkout for some reason

    • +1

Price has gone back up. For once I managed to get in quick before it ended…

  • +1

Whats so good about this keyboard ?

    • +2

Hard to explain but if it just feels better than any other keyboard I have ever used. I don't game or use mechanical keyboards but I have been using this KB for the last few years 5 days a week and it's comfortable and I can type efficiently on it. When I go into the office for the odd day I have a cheaper Logitech one in there and It's no where near as comfortable and I struggle to type as fluid as I do at home on the MX master.
Some people will say it's expensive etc but if you use it 5 days a week all year around then it's money well spent.

    • I got one for my wife and after all the rave reviews but in all honesty I don't like it. Very little key travel and feedback. Much prefer a normal mechanical keyboard.

      • +2

This keyboard is not for people who love mechanical keyboards. It's for people who want a really well built laptop style keyboard. It has soft clicks and limited feedback as you mentioned, but that makes it great to type for hours. I've also found the dimples on each key to help with typing.

Showing 127.90 but then in the cart shows as 159??

    • Yeah, happened to me.

  • price is changed back.

    • That’s quick!

    • I have a feeling they were meant to be price matching the mini as that was close to the same price.

  • Wow very popular!
I'm waiting MX Keys mini goes under $100(I know rose colour is $97 but I wanna black) because I wanna use just one Bolt receiver with MX Master 3s.
    Anyway, it's good price.

  • +1

bought logitech k375s for the same purpose for just $37 works great with quest2.

  • Got one at $127.90 thanks, but seen they've just gone up to $159.95.

  • price is back to 159.95

  • Damn, great price. I bought one for around $160 a little over a week ago (albeit with amazon credit, so not that big a fuss).

  • +1

I know it's expired… But how is this keyboard for some coding and general office use..?

I have been thinking about going mechanical but I think the noise will drive me crazy.

    • +1

      Amazing for that purpose!

      • Thanks I will hit buy next time 👍🏻

  • Does anyone know how to wake up a sleeping PC via a bluetooth connected keyboard?

    • +1

there is a setting to allow bluetooth devices to wake up a computer - i believe in power management settings (for windows at least)

  • +1

does anyone have the colour going off from their keys? I have had mine for around 7 months now and the right hand side edge of my B & N keys have started to loose colour. I don't game and use it solely for work and there is no special use of those 2 keys. I have no clue what I could have done for the paint to go away.

    • Maybe you need to clean it?

      • err.. not sure how cleaning would help. Wouldn't it remove more paint/colour?

    • +1

Yep, it's a similar situation with mine (also around 6 months old). However I think the paint coming off my keycaps is down to cleaning it too often.

I was using isopropol alcohol to wipe down the board weekly.

I have been user the older Craft variant of the MX keys for a couple years now and the keycaps on the Craft are pristine despite being subjected to the same cleaning routine.

Could be an issue with some batches of the MX keys getting less durable paint. A bit annoying since this is meant to be a higher end keyboard

      • If your using it undiluted then that will be where your keyboard paint went.

It's great stuff but you only need a tiny amount. so if you have one of those small spray bottles that people use for spraying cleaning fluid on their glasses then you basically fill it with water put one teaspoon of the isopropyl and a couple of drops of dishwashing detergent as a surfactant and that's it. Never use it undiluted on things like a keyboard.

        • in my case, I have never cleaned it with anything except wiping it with a micro fiber cloth

        • Yeah agreed. I think it was 70/30 water mix. I've since switched to something gentler.

That said I will say the keycap coating on the MX Keys is less durable than the Craft.

  • Good price. Got it for $129 in the last deal. Solid keyboard with nice keystrokes.

  • Got it from amazon 149.99

  • Does this need admin rights to install any software for PC?

    • i just plugged in the dongle, didn't get any admin requests.

      • Cool thanks, it's a pain to get stuff installed on work laptop if it's not in our software centre or on the store.

    • +2

you can use the basic functions of the keyboard with just the dongle.

if you install the "Logitech Options" software,
then you can assign more functions, update firmwares, etc.

      • +1

And this does need admin rights. I have to ask my work IT department every time there’s an update to the software

  • +2

Ozbargain's favourite keyboard despite never being a bargain

    • +1

      Stable wireless connection: Check
Seamless 3 device connections at once: Check
Nice and sturdy scissor switch: Check
Crazy battery life: Check and check

For sub $130 it is a bargain to quite a few people. At least to me it was the perfect keyboard for WFH.

  • Missed out dang it.

  • +1

Given how expensive bog standard Logitech wireless keyboards are, the MX Keys for $160 is still a bargain imo.

If posts on OzBargain have taught me anything, it will be back at around $150 in no time

    • it's still 219 at officeworks and they price match amazon au - so you can get it for ~151 from there rn.

      • I was at JB HIFI today and they wouldn’t price match the DigiTech 20% off deal on eBay - only the official listed price ($189). What a shame - I’m going for the eBay deal :) (plus 4% off eBay gift card to make it sweeter 😇)

  • -2

For those who missed it, you can still get it with $127.20

That's for the MX Keys mini.

  • You could get one from Digidirect for $151.2 (20% off $189). I used 4% off eBay gift card so only paid $145. Great deal still!! Looking forward to receiving!

    • A quick update noting no one cares - I received it last week and works amazingly. My fav non mechanical wireless keyboard now!
