Studios often use relatively trash speakers to engineer their music. (Yamaha NS10 comes to mind) Idea being is that most people use trash speakers so the music sounds best for most.

The definition of professional is someone who is paid to do a job.
If professional headphone listeners existed (they may), then the term applied to these devices wouldn't annoy me as much.
