  • Decent reviews on google!

    edit: wrong expiry date selected!

    good job Op…
one or the rare few companies that list their pricing..

  • Is this a bargain? What price are other installers offering?

    • Best to get quotes, and have someone come out and look. I paid just under 4k, 4 years ago.

  • +1

Not really a bargain. I got my 13.25kw Jinko (+10kw Goodwe inverter) including Solar Analytics installed in April for $8k (inclusive of federal STCs). It pays to shop around and do your research

    • +1

      which company?

    • Likewise, interested in who offered you this.

  • Can you still use govco’s interest free loan scheme even if you don’t qualify for their rebates ? eg household income threshold

    • +2

You either get both or you don't!

      • So the price you listed is only if you qualify and does not apply to everyone?

        • SolarVIC eligibility criteria applies!!

          • +2

@AndySolar: You should know better than to list a line item for removing an old system in the same breath as talking about applying for a rebate ;)

        • +1

Yep, if you don't qualify for the rebate then you don't get the rebate 👍

Solar is great renewable energy. Don't know why the governments around the globe doesn't give out free solar to everyone.
Most countries are still reliant upon fossil fuels.

  • How much for 5kw system /microinverters such as enphase I have a weird shape roof

    • Expect at least 20% extra to be the least, even so those that do micro tends to charge rates on the higher end. Your only way to know is ringing around. If you want quite reputable then solargain is a decent one that have a variety of options.

  • What's the consensus on battery storage now? I'd feel like I'd only be doing half the job with just solar panels.

    • +1

I suggest waiting. Bidirectional EV charging is just arriving in Australia, it will allow your EV to function like a battery storage system.

    • Read through the "Good Solar Guide" available free online

  • Thanks for posting OP. We live in a townhouse. Its roof is a pain to design and install something. We will probably need to wait until the technology changes from the panels to something more flexible and the efficiency goes up too. Thankfully the house is pretty energy efficient.

  • If there is an existing system, does that mean we miss out of the SolarVIC rebate?

I’m going to call you out on this. NONE OF THE GEAR LISTED IS PREMIUM AT ALL! Best described as basic- at best. Acceptable maybe?

Could you be honest with potential customers please? Make it clear it’s a BASIC quality package (maybe an opportunity to spruike your install creds here), and that you do in fact supply quality gear as well as bargain bin stuff.

The marketing fluff with “tier 1” etc is pretty unfair, though kudos to you for not doing it here.

Also, the upfront deposit seems to be a bit excessive. Doesn’t command confidence in your business tbh.

People generally aren’t very knowledgeable on solar stuff, and these sorts of disingenuous marketing does not help the industry.

    • To be fair, Sungrow are an excellent value for money inverter - rated the top out of all the brands in the value category (according to Solar Quotes). If I were to compare them to cars, they'd be a Toyota - cheap and reliable.

However I get your point that it is disingenuous to call them "premium" components - they're certainly not Fronius.

      • +1

Absolutely, may be value for money, but absolutely not premium. Saying otherwise is an outright lie.

        • What brands should we be looking out for that are considered premium and any idea ball park figures we could expect?

  • Pretty much the same price as all those hydra solar companies… Sunboost, arise solar etc

  • Thoughts on AC/enphase setups? I don't see the point of overcapitalising on a big setup given shit FITs (QLD) and looming introduction of dynamic export limitation. I like that AC systems can be easily expanded, without needing a new/larger inverter. I'm getting quoted about $9.3k for 6.6kw systems (Longi 455w or Trina 415w panels) + Enphase, and a Catch Power relay.

    • +1

Enphase is brilliant, especially for multi array or shaded installs. You do pay more for enphase, but imho it’s worth it.

      • We don't have shade, just like the idea of simple scalability. Plus the installer we prefer (family & Reddit recommended) only does Enphase.

        • Honestly, can’t go wrong with them. Pretty good to deal with aside from online chat and brilliant product- I’ve integrated into home automation with live production/export/import stats via the envoy and it’s been a game changer for my bill- everything high load is automated now- especially useful with the crappy weather we have had lately!

          • @HelpMeiCantSee: That sounds like a tight setup you've got there. I need to go down the rabbit hole on that sort of thing. I basically want it to cover the high use stuff ie pool pump, hot water etc as priority and then everything else behind that.

            • +1

@Ham Dragon: Homeassistant is a game changer man. The envoy has local API access you can scrape data from which is awesome. HA can integrate pretty much anything. Just for fun I made an automation that if the house temp is cold and has been for >12 hours and I’m away, it will turn on the ac once I’m about an hour from home so I walk into a warm house. And turns on lights as I pull in at home. Imagination is the limit!

Just need to work out how to get everything else to report per second rather than per 30 seconds (energy monitoring plugs etc).

  • What would be the cost for a bigger 10kw system. 2 storey house with terracotta tiles.

    • Being double storey and having terracotta roof tiles will both add an expense to the install, due to being more labour intensive. I couldn't tell you the cost, as I had mine done in April of this year (in a single storey terracotta tiled house), using "budget" components (Goodwe/Jinko) and prices have been steadily going up since then. What kind of components did you have in mind?

      • I have terracotta tiles and I am worried about them cracking on install. What was your experience with that happening?

        • You will get a few cracked tiles during install - it's inevitable - if not from the racking itself, then from installers walking around on the roof. A good installer will know to let you know if this happens and offer to replace any cracked tiles for you, but you will be required to have at least 30 spare for this eventuality.
