Can this model be unlocked does anyone know? or is it region free for dvd or blu ray?

    • i believe that it is region free.

this is based on research into the manufacturer and similar models they produce which don't indicate that they are region locked

    • I'm pretty sure it's region free for DVD but region locked for blu ray

    AWA - I wouldn't trust a Blu-Ray player that only costs a bit more than a Blu-Ray disk.
Had an AWA television and it was the worst purchase ever.

most of the name brand dvd players i ever owned had a nice menu and remote, but not much in the way of quality, they all carked it shortly after warranty.

All of the no name ones i ever bought are still working! I'd give this a shot.

  • Not as good I'd think as the Dick Smith $63 Philips blu-ray player, but still good.

A really nice price but I've been burnt with 'affordable' bluray players… Bought one (some weird brand AMTC? which used a reference design Broadcom chipset) from DSE, it worked (and well) then after about a year every second bluray disc would fail to load… It needed a firmware upgrade which was not available and fortunately because I had 3 years cover they refunded my purchase price (minus the cost of the 3 year cover ($75 I think) and I purchased a common brand name (Philips)…

My suggestion is if you want a bluray player that will work for a long time go for a brand name like Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, LG which are more likely to release upgrades and you'll have a longer working bluray player for the long run.. Yes they may be more crippled/restrictive but it's been my experience (as an owner of 5 bluray players) that famous name brands are better (and yes they do cost more but you get what you pay for even in electronics)

  • I bought a Toshiba Blu-Ray player for $88 in January. All the normal stuff, USB, ethernet, upscaling, but also you can change the region. Got it from Harvey's, but they've got an LG on special for $88 now.
My Toshiba is BD1200KY or something like that.

  • I have been trying to sell my upscaling Panasonic networked Blu-ray player for weeks…isn't it funny how something that was $299 1.5 years ago I can't even get an offer on it.

    • maybe the price you offer is bit high. With blu ray players, you really need warranty to back up the sale.

      • I haven't even had an offer….I was only looking for $60.

        • right, that's odd.

        • I'd make an offer, but you're on the wrong side of the country.
