Great phone for a great price. I jumped on the JB deal and have not looked back. Would definitely recommend this phone.

    • This or Samsung note 20?

      • I would choose this as my experience with Samsungs is that they slow down after some time.

    • +24

Thought that but specs are on par with Samsung s22 ultra many reviews say its better. Get a charger in the box and still have enough cash leftover for 2 years of phone bills.

      • -1

Who in their right mind buys anything samsung at full price? They are discounted 30% on day one and with that in mind, I dont think I will consider Oppo.

        • Even at launch, an s22 ultra was still ~$1,500 with discounts. That was 128gig too…..

    • +6

People used to say the same thing about LG TV's when Sony was king.

      • So China will become South Korea for smartphones in the same way South Korea became Japan for TVs 20 years ago…? Not sure the analogy works personally

        • +5

It is well on its way, iPhone has been made there for years, Huawei phones are world class. Chinese features are being adopted by Samsung such as fast charging and im not sure on the new Samsung's if they have it but periscope optical zoom was a game changer in camera phones.
          Analogy works fine.

          • +2

@Spendmore: Big difference between a device being manufactured in a country and the entire business being based there.

              • +1

@Telios: I'm sure you boycott all Chinese products too, despite what your ozbargain comment history shows

                • @Spendmore: I do actually boycott a huge amount of Chinese products.

It's a time and labour intensive process and you can't always find alternatives but I fully believe it is the right thing to do.

            • -2

@PainToad: Sorry I thought Huawei is based there?

              • @Spendmore: I was referring to your comment "iPhone has been made there for years".

          • @Spendmore: Software is what differentiates Chinese phones to others. Huawei doesn't have playstore, Apple's software can't be replicated in china and Samsung's software is arguably better than even vanilla now.

Samsung had periscope on the s21, they're not gonna push hard on fast charging due to the note 9 fiasco.

            • @krisspy: I guess you're missing the point.
I didn't say China were there yet but well on their way and it is perceivable in the future.
Such outdated thinking like when the US was the car maker and people thought Japanese cars were rubbish.

              • -1

@Spendmore: It's not about phones being rubbish, it's about a dictatorship country having back doors and unwanted access to your data.

And yes, everyone does it, but people wouldn't flinch if it was their own country doing the spying.

Stigma against China and privacy isn't something they can easily overcome by undercutting the market.

                • +1

@krisspy: I'm fine with it, nothing to hide.
If they wanted your data they could just hack Apple or Google instead?

                  • -1

@Spendmore: I guess you're fine with leaving your blinds and front doors open at night right? Since there's nothing to hide. Privacy isn't about hiding illicit activities.

You really think hacking the biggest tech companies is easier than putting a back-door to a phone you actually make? Let alone the repercussions when they the Feds find out it was a state attack.

C'mon now, this is a country that secretly turns on face recognition on their apps to monitor its citizen's usage.

                    • @krisspy: The world isn't as clean cut as you would portray.
Governments are hacking each other constantly.
                      As for apple…

                      https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/technology/…

                      • @Spendmore: But that didn't answer my question. What's easier and more reliable, putting a back-door on your products or spe ding time and money on hacking a multi billion dollar company?

                        • @krisspy: Who knows, I'm not an expert so can't comment on ease and reliability to do so would be speculating.
I do know these hacks are very sophisticated and can penetrate government agencies so perceived walls of safety of data don't really exist.
In the end my data going to China or the US doesn't affect me.

          • +7

@Spendmore: I was reading Napoleon predicted the rise of China 200 years ago. Once upon a time Toyota was considered inferior to European cars. Who's to say Chinese products are inferior? My father was the first person in Australia to receive a BYD Atto electric car. Chinese love them. And remember the Chinese will source products from other countries like Australia if the quality isn't up to scratch?

Made the switch from Samsung to Oppo and am very happy with my Oppo. Wouldn't hesitate to get another for my next phone.

      • What's the latest security updates do you have? How about the Android version? Is it the latest versions or…?

          • @PainToad: If you really care about security, you'd probably be best off living in the wilderness without any technology.

        • If you are actually genuine.. I have a Find X3 which now has Android 12, last Android security update 5/9/22

          • @owen1: Just don't get a telstra branded one. The oppo find x3 pro is still on a october 2021 version.

      • I have tried both and don't think oppo is too bad but samsung wins the software game. Oppo could have been better if they had option to unlock bootloader and allow people to root. Expandable memory is another thing which could have been better if oppo was offering but 0 points to both of them on that.

thanks OP, just wondering if you see any Oppo Find X2 pro deals

    • I was considering an X2 Pro refurb from eBay combined with the 25% cashback yesterday.

      • I might sell mine if you keen?

        • How much are you selling for bro

  • +1

this or pixel 6 pro? which one has better camera

    • Review on X5 pro wasn't as great, some saying X3 pro is better. On camera alone, probs p6p wins.

      • I've had good experiences with flagship Oppo's.

I haven't used any pixels but isn't quality control an issue? The chip in the oppo is better too.

        • +1

I've had P6P and X2 Pro. P6P had minor issues like fingerprint sensors and lousy battery life, so these things get annoying over time.

As for the chipset, I don't think there is much difference between Snapdragon chipsets in daily performance.

          • @aveeno bb: Do you mean there isn't much difference between the Google Tensor chip and SD? Hmm maybe I was mistaken.

          • @aveeno bb: how the camera between those 2?

my brother has the x2pro and you can tell the indoor white balance has issue

my wife has the x3pro, so far its good just get hots on normal use

I am very keen on a pixel atm

            • +1

@SS625: Pixel won't disappoint with the camera quality. X2 Pro had decent quality in my opinion, but p6p takes photos that wows, if you know what I mean.

    • P6 Pro is very hard to beat for photos but I think this is better for video

    • Pixel phones have much better processing software than any Chinese phone I have seen (at least to my taste), even if hardware/sensor/camera wise other phones may be better.

  • +8

OPPO is good. Their battery doesn't explode or expand. The fast charging is awesome.

  • +1

Great phone, but please be aware the camera system is not the best compared to similar priced flagships from other competitors

    • +2

Yeah I think it's also to do with post processing don't get me wrong amazing photos but can be better. If you use gcam APK does make it abit better too in certain situations

  • +2

Shame as you would have gotten a free watch, earbuds and charger with this promotion, which just ended:

    https://oppopromotions.com.au/terms-and-conditions

    • +3

That is probably why the price just dropped

    • def was. the deal ended 28th, the price drop was 29th

I have Oppo Find X5 Lite, which i hate, when I sell it, I will be back to a Samsung again.

    • why would you buy the lite? its basically the X3 pro for more money…

      • I got it for $399. Great deal on a decent phone.

  • Ooo that white colour nice got one

  • +5

Still rocking my find x2 pro. Great phone.
Only issue I've had is the charging port is a bit funny/loose, but I'm pretty rough with that sort of thing so probably my fault.
Bought the wireless charging dock to work around it.

    • Find x2 pro doesn't have wireless charging

      • Yeah find x2 pro is wired charging only best to get it fixed if you still have warranty for free if possible

  • Have they managed to find?

    At all?

  • -8

$1200 for an Oppo? This is $800 at best regardless of specs. It’s a China based branded phone no matter how you spin it.

How much software updates do you get? What’s the warranty support like? What would be the value in a year or two compared to equivalent phones?

    • +5

I have an oppo. Slowly the whole family have been buying them. My dad started it all with an older oppo pro years ago, now mum, myself and my son all have one. My husband is considering buying one of these in a few months when his contract expires. He always had iPhones or Samsung's. Nothing wrong with Oppo, infact they are amazing value for the specs. I still get updates on my X2 pro, latest one was last week.

Just to note none of us have had any issues at all with our phones over many years and all different models.

    • +3

If it was 2002, I would say your are right, but it's 2022 now, Chinese branded phones have high quality, especially the battery and super fast charging are very good.

    • +1

Ive had oneplus 1, 3, 5, 6, and Oppo X3 pro. ive had software updates for all phones past the 3 year mark. Never had a single issue with any of these phones.

Oppo, Vivo, Oneplus, Realme are all owned by BKK which is one of the biggest conglomerates in china.

This "oh its crap cos its china" mentality is an antiquated one. think back to the 70's when it was japan that was the target of this thinking… how times have changed. you can either be a part of the change or get left behind

  • I got the Oppo Find X5 phone 3 months ago and using it daily. It's ok, but nothing special about it really.

    • +2

      That's a reality check , there's nothing special about any phone . REALLY !

  • +3

This could be a very nice phone at around $799 mark, like X2 Pro and X3 pro have been.

    • 2nd in the queue

    • Agree. They just don't have the brand recognition or trust in Australia (yet?) to support 1k+ phones being considered good value.

  • +1

Price beat 5% extra off at officeworks :)
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/oppo-find-…

    • did this. cheers for the tip x

  • Got this phone on the first day of release, I do a bit of photography and it does it very well. Lightroom is working fast. Definitely requires a case as the phone itself always tends to slide. The on-screen fingerprint is quite responsive. I recommend this phone

  • +1

I just ordered this from JB same price.
I am going to pick it up.
    Thanks :)

    • How? Through live chat?

      • yes. price match !

    • price BEAT at Officeworks

  • +1

extra $10 off with the code BINGLEE10

  • anyone know how to check if these are dual physical sim? some say dual but they mean 1 physical + 1 esim

    • +1

I believe 2 physical nano sims but if using a esim only 1 physical slot works

    • dual physical sim :)

  • Design looks nice

  • -1

regardless of the brand, I wouldn't pay this much for an 8G1, when there's 8+G1 options. it's so incredibly hot and throttly

    • -1

      Name ONE good 8+g1 phone

  • Price beat officeworks

    • did this

  • Still rocking find X2 Pro 512G - decent photos, fast+responsive, battery life + fast charging never get in the way.

    Works for me 👍
