Not sure if I'd consider it a "deal" since Netflix has stated access to a selection of free games is now just a standard part of having an account. It's not like an unusual offer or anything.

It's a new addition to their service, but yes obviously people have mixed feelings on subs additions (hence the mod notice)

Unpopular opinion… i dont mind subs deals. Good reminder to make use of my subs and what I'm missing out on

Thanks OP - I had no idea there was such a thing as Netflix games because they never appear when I use the Netflix app on my TV. I didn't realise the games appear on the mobile app.

Here are the instructions and the list of games.

  • I'm curious as to how these work, like on iOS for example, do you play the game within the app, is it streamed like Stadia? Or does it download some data and you play it within the Netflix app, or does it download and install a seperate app to your phone, in which case I thought iPhones were locked down to only install apps from the official Apple Appstore?

    • +2

You download from the relevant official app store, but have to go through a netflix login screen to play them.

      • interesting. so if I discontinue my Netflix subscription the game won't run?

        • +1

Yes that would be the case. Like the xbox pass and the netflix video library you only have access while you are subscribed.

      • +1

Damn so each game has to put a seperate listing on the app store? Interesting stuff

        • +2

The games are not always the same. For example the official exploding kittens is much more feature rich than the Netflix exploding kittens. And the Netflix version is absolutely bug ridden too.

          • @Nuggets: Wow, wouldn’t have expected them to want to maintain two very different versions. So does the Netflix version advertise the full version?

            • +1
              • @Nuggets: Seems like a weird decision to make them different (unless they're two different adaptations of the card game by two different developers, which would also be kind of weird).

  • Yeah nah putting out mobile games is not gonna save Netflix from losing subscribers. Quality shows do. And no I'm not talking about Season 4 of "You" or "13 Reasons no one gave a shit about after season 2". Still salty about Mind Hunters season 3 got scrapped.

Oxenfree is a great game, you should play it on what platform you prefer

      • Yeah I got it on PS4. Played it already but didn't like it that much.
