Depends if we have to wait 6 months for the pixel 7's hardware bugs to be ironed out

    • +7

I have a new Pixel 6 and it's still riddled with bugs after 1 year since its launch :(

      • I'm talking about in hardware revisions. I don't think software updates were enough to fix the problems

        • Nevermind, misread your post. Pretty alarming that there's still problems

      • +3

What are the issues you have? I haven't had any since getting it. Keen to know what to look out for.

        • +7

          1) The worst is the screen flickering that appears randomly - looks like a ghost is randomly touching the screen. This happens every few days and a restart fixes it
          2) Fingerprint reader is utterly painful, by far the worst I have ever had, find myself having to type the PIN several times a day. If there's direct sunlight it basically NEVER works.
          3) Another thing I have noticed is the screen rotation - sometimes it doesnt work at all
          4) Also pairing to bluetooth is hit and miss - sometimes it randomly drops the connection to my Bose headphones - never had this issue with Pixel 5.
          5) other random, less frequent bugs such as the volume toggles being stuck, few times the phone rang without reason, some other times the screen was completely empty (only wallpaper, nothing else) and had to restart it to see icons and menus again etc.

I have to add, I have a screen protector on which could influence negatively the first two bugs.

      • Have you updated? All my issues (except for the fingerprint sensor) went away.

        Rock solid now.

And, this is a good deal. Other than a slight design change, the changes to the Pixel 7 are very insignificant

        • Yes I keep it constantly up to date… :(

        • Why do you say insignificant?

          How's the fingerprint sensor?

      • -2

That bad huh? I thought they would've fixed it by now with the software updates.

  • +1

Does this still have modem issues or have they been fixed with updates?

    • +2

This has countless issues. I sold mine in less than 2 months. Avoid.

      • +3

Have u sold after android 13? Coz they say it fixed most of the bugs.

      • I did too. The fingerprint sensor is useless as well

      • What issues did you encounter and what did you replace it with?

      • Yeah was never interested, pixel 5 is great.
Will wait 6m after the 7 is put most likely. Wouldn't get the 6 anyway until it's $750 or half price, that finger print scanner sounds like junk.

  • Man the price drops quick.

    • +2

Not really - it's still $999 ($899 is with the 10% off coupon which is across the whole store). 15 to 20% in price after almost a year and just before the new release is pretty standard.

      • Even at $999 its 24% off its launch price. Second, JBHifi excludes certain manufacturers from the sale, why not Pixel. 34% drop is nothing to be sneezed at even with a new phone coming. What should be the used value of a Pixel 6 Pro now?

    • +2

It was released a year ago 🤣

      • And we're less than a month away from the next generation.

  • Can we trade-in old phone and get some credit?

  • Wish I knew if the 7 will have a significantly better camera…….likely not from all reports. That’s all I want a pixel for.

    • They stuck with the same camera for 4 generations. I'd be surprised if they changed the one they developed for years to replace it after one year.

      • +1

I dont think thats true. Reading this page here, it seems the camera hardware was all updated for the Pixel 6 range: https://www.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_6_pro-review-2343p5.ph….

        • +2

Yea that's what I'm saying. They used the same hardware for p2 through to p5 and it held up as taking some of the best phone pictures through those years.

They then apparently spent years developing the new camera for the p6. So I can't see them replacing it after just one year for a different way one on the p7 as Coops is concerned about.

          • +1

@Herbse: Aah okay thanks for the clarification, I read your comment and misunderstood it.

    • +1

They're keep the same read sensors, only the selfie cam is getting updated.

      • Just want the good shots from the rear cameras.
Usually take a selfie with the rear cameras anyways, and its not as important as a lovely view/scene in front.
Maybe I will jump at the 6 Pro!!!

        • You won't have issues with the pictures a pixel spits out. The weakest point for androids has always been the video.

  • Is Pixel 7 only 90Hz?

  • This or the 6a?

  • +1

Stay away from this phone. I got the 6 Pro and it would constantly drop network signal. Google would only replace it with a reconditioned unit which i said no way. They wouldn't give me a new unit, so went back to Telstra who thankfully refunded my money and i went back to Samsung!
Its apparently a common problem if you google it!!

    • +7

      Settings -> Network -> SIM -> Prefered network - 4G
      Issue fixed.
Is caused by 5G rollout when the cellular station is misconfigured by the mobile operator.

      • +1

Why would I buy a 5G phone to only use 4G?

        • -3

          Lol. Exactly

        • +2

What do you expect a phone to do if cellular station is misconfigured by the mobile operator?

          • +1

@Secret ID: Well i think its easier to get a different phone than getting a cell tower configured correctly?! True?

        • For cheap prepaid sims - like boost - who have done free upgrades to 5G anyway.
I don't notice much speed difference, 4G fine if means a cheap plan/sim. It can fall back to 4G anyway (or lower) in average areas.

    • You would drop signal even being with Telstra?

Which Samsung did you get? Apparently I hear it has the best signal.

      • Yep, driving around, connection would drop. Only way to get it back was turning phone off and on or by turning on and off airplane mode which seemed like it reset the connection. Was such a nuisance. Listening to music would just stop all the time.

Really wanted to like the Google but went back to my old trusty brand Samsung S22+ Its been great!

        • With Samsung s22+ as well and I think the signal is great. Almost constantly with 5g connection and never drops.

Where are you based? I'm in Melbourne eastern suburbs.

          • @Mungnang: Yep never dropped signal on the S22+. Im in NW Melb

    • Go for it! Using 6 Pro since day one and no issues.

Should I cancel my iPhone 14 Pro Max order, buy this and save $1000?

    • +2

personally I’m waiting for next gen iPhones as they are rumoured to have USBC.. an upgrade that should’ve been done a while ago

      • Waiting for iphone with usb c too, but iphones may never get usb c ,may just go portless

        • That would be a huge loss of profile for Apple. No more cable accessories for iphone gonna hurt them and their partners in many ways.
Beside, wireless charging isn't efficient enough just yet.
They just gonna switch to type c like they did on iPad.
Apple changed their strategy a few years ago to get as many customers as possible. Especially Android users.

    • I upgraded from px 5 to 6 pro but returned it in few days. I feel iphones have better quality hardware for their price point. Pixels have better camera and for the price, pixels are better deal than iphones.

    • -7

This is definitely not as good as an iPhone (no android phone is, plus this one is very buggy, as per my comment above), but between a Pixel+$1000 and an iPhone, I'd definitely pick the Pixel. And the camera quality is on par with iPhone.

      • Oof. The pixel boys are coming for you.

    • Buy an s21 ultra for less than 700 dollar refurbished. Save more money and much better phone than this.

      • Where are you seeing refurbished for under $700??

        • Reebelo. 659 AUD last time i checked

      • Exynos? No thanks!

        • This is also an derivation of samsung exynos with abit of google sauce. Also made by samsung foundry too.

          • @ChickenAdobo: At least the GPU in the Tensor is much better than Exynos in S21 Ultra.

            • @aveeno bb: I give you that but when it 75% exynos like soc. There barely any difference apart from the tensor core.

              • @ChickenAdobo: And the reason why the battery life on Pixel 6 Pro so bad!

                • @aveeno bb: Yeah it bad when i had exynos galaxy and note phones. Snapdragon s22 ultra is almost apple like battery

      • not pure android.. no fast updates and samsung bloatware i'm guessing.

        • The days of pure android being king is over rated. I rather have more software options than blank android. Google has been copying samsung features into their "pure" android.

As with the fast updates. I rather be on a stable release than being a beta tester on broken OS version.

And samsung "bloatware" is not hindering my experience on my s22 ultra. Crazy fast as it is on the snapdragon chip.

          • @ChickenAdobo: Good to know.

          • @ChickenAdobo: How much is the s22 ultra and such, some people don't want to pay 2k for a flagship phone:$

    • Depends if your workflow requires iOS or Android. If cost is the only factor then save a grand.

    • Do you want an iPhone or a pixel?

      iOS or Android?

      Doesn't matter?

Then any features that you'd want sticking with the iPhone?

  • +3

Buggiest phone I've ever owned. Avoid!

  • I get the impression that the Pixel 6 Pro seems to have more issues that the Pixel 6?

    • I think more people just have the p6 pro. And as always, the ones who have issues mention that more than the ones who have no issues.

I've had mine with no dramas, the fingerprint sensor is fine, better than the ones the pixels had at the back of the phone.

  • i still like my pixel 2 xl problem is i don't know where to get the battery changed.

  • My Pixel 6 Pro had issues with battery and network standby usage but that was resolved about 3 months later and hasn't skipped a bit since!
