How much extra is it to get the fan?

  • +5

    Thought it's Miele…

    • Mele without I

  • +1

    Good value as HTPC.

    • +2

I use mine for astrophotography but yep, they’re great for HTPC use as well

      • I think it should handle 4k video fine but how about 4k HDR?

        • sorry, I'm not sure about that!

      • +2

@beatsntoons that's specifically what I came to ask

You running sharpcap, fire capture, Nina on this?

I'm seriously considering swapping from asiair plus and zwo cameras to something like this, primarily for improved planetary fps capture.

        • +1

I run NINA, PHD2, EQMod, Stellarium and a bunch of other specific software required for my kit (like Pegasus Unity, PrimaLuceLab Play etc)
It should run Sharpcap and Fire Capture fine but I don't have that software.

I also have an older Beelink U55 as a second rig for PC shooting, and this is faster than that machine.

Although if you like the size of the Beelink, they also have a U59 that uses the same chip as this one. It also has an extra USB port which is very handy. I use that port for my Esatto.

AA+ is nice, and I've got one for my ZWO gear, but for QHY stuff well you need a PC.

Best of luck, clear skies :)

anyone got one of these as a cumulus node ?

    • No. I hadn't considered hosting one at home because my internet is too slow. Is yours fast enough to support one? Who are you with?

      • +1

superloop - the plan is "nbn™ Home Fast 40" $79.95/month - you will need to talk to support staff about Static IP also - the flux cumulus guide requires static ip.

        • nice one, thanks for that

  • +1

Looks like it could make a nice Home Assistant server. Maybe an alternative to buying a refurb micro PC.

    • Have a look at the N5105 'router' boxes from Topton and others. Same processor but more upgradeable (RAM, M2 & SATA) and slightly cheaper. And it has the mini pcie slot I need for a Coral AI board to go into. And 4x 2.5G ethernet ports that won't be much use to me.

  • +1

Not the worst deal but for $300+ I'd also consider one of the similarly spec'ed refub laptops that come through here at around the same price point

  • Would this replace an aging pc, i just need one for basic school work, light gaming and torrents.

    • Or buy refurbished desktop, quite a lot posted on ozbargain.

      • Not sure where to start though. The pc i have is way over kill. Its an old dell CAD machine. Twin processors, massive power supply. Is it wrth fixing that one?

        • How about this [Refurb] Dell OptiPlex 7050 SFF i5 7500 3.4GHz 8GB 256GB SSD, if size doesn't matter.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/726461

          • @superforever: That looks like its ok… i have 2 or 3 of these small form optiplex pcs laying around with i5, i7 in them too… just need someone that i can take all my stuff to make me a decent machine

            • +1

              @JACK SKELLINGTON:

… just need someone that i can take all my stuff to m

Just install SSD and combine them with more RAM should runs fine, if the PC still working.

    • They’re really designed for VDI type stuff, running browser directly is not a pleasant experience but can be done. I haven’t tried gaming but imagine you could run some things

      • Ok thanks, so not the best for my needs.

        • depends on "light gaming" I guess.
For pure Office needs, this thing is more than capable.

          • @beatsntoons: Light gaming, mainly streaming xbox cloud gaming, youtube and web browsing for the kids. Just deciding if i put the 300 into what i already have, but i reckon what i have is overkill for my needs.

            • @JACK SKELLINGTON: Shield TV Pro might suit better.

Edit: didn't realise you had "school work" requirements too. In which case, shield will not be a good choice.

            • @JACK SKELLINGTON: Well Xbox streaming takes little to no effort on your machine. Wi-Fi 6 will help as well.

              • @beatsntoons: Ok cool. But still not sure if its worth getting rid or my CAD machine. It was not cheap back in the day…. its duel core so i thought i might be able to use it for something.

                • +4

                  @JACK SKELLINGTON:

                  duel core

Last core standing kind of situation?

                  • @m9: Its still going…. ram is the issue at present.. Its a dell workstation. T2600 or something. About 10yr old.

Just a shame about the eMMC storage, but at that price still a great deal and at least there's a M.2 slot for faster storage.

I'm using a similarly spec'd Aerofara (which was $340'ish when I got it) and it's fine for web browsing and office apps on a 4K screen. Unfortunately they're far more expensive now - https://www.amazon.com.au/Computer-Intel-Celeron-N5105-Proce…

    • +1

Yep. At this price you can get a decent M.2 drive on top. I think I paid somewhere around $80 for a 500GB Kingston last month.

  • +1

These perform about as well as an i7 6500u in multi-threaded workloads.
