Whats a better 34" monitor for same price?

      • +1

there is nothing better at this price, you want better be prepared to spend >$1k

  • +9

Why are people so butthurt by Dell not honouring a price error? Entitled much?!
Most companies do not honour a massive price error like that one and everyone seemed okay until this incident.

  • I pulled the trigger on this Dell 34 Curved Monitor - S3422DW this morning for 439.
The spec donesn't look much different from the OP.
    Am I missing something?

      New vs refurbished?

    • +4

The S3422DW you linked is only 100Hz and 300 cd/m² brightness - has built in speakers though.
The S3422DWG is up tp 144Hz and 400 cd/m² brightness.

      • Thanks mate!
        Here is the comparison.
        https://www.displaydb.com/compare/dell-s3422dwg/dell-s3422dw

Only noticieable difference is 100 cd/m² of less brighness. I reckon no one actually uses the monitor at full brightness (eyes hurts!). 300 should be good enogh.

New vs refurb wouldn't make much difference as far as 3 year warranty (including dead pix) is covered.

        Speakers would a plus.

        • Disagree about the brightness being the only noticeable difference.
          If you've used a 144hz, you'd never go back to using a 100hz.

That site (displaydb) says the 100hz has HDR and the 144hz doesn't, but it actually does.
          And yeah, refurbished.

Honestly, I'd try cancel and get the brand new, 144hz, monitor instead.

          • @Deviner: I disagree. I have my S3422DWG for past 6 months and played a few games including FPS games, because I am not a competitive gamer I don't find 100Hz much different from 144Hz. Maybe if you are a competitive FPS gamer, then yes you will notice 144Hz and may even prefer 240Hz.

            • @edfoo: Yeah, try have both monitors side by side and see which one your eyes prefer over time.
Admittedly, it's not as big a jump as 60hz to 100hz was, but it's definitely noticeable (maybe more so for some than others).

It's not even about "competitive gaming".
But… this thread is a deal on a gaming monitor after all..
If you intend on using g-sync in games, 144hz is a big leap from 100hz.

But even for work purposes, the S3422DWG is better as it has far superior connectivity options to the S3422DW.
The only thing the S3422DW "wins" on is the fact it has built-in speakers, which are no doubt terrible compared to actual speakers.

Your 240hz comment is not even remotely comparable to my 144hz one
If you can point me in the direction of a 240hz, 3440x1440, 34", 1ms response time monitor for circa $539, I'll eat my hat.

Again, the difference in the two monitors we're debating here is $100 and the cheaper one is refurbished and worse in virtually every aspect I've looked at.

It's literally a no brainer - I genuinely can't see how you can debate this.

    • $599 and all gone

      • Use code PLSAV22 to make it $468 (need ebay plus)

The code comes up below the price for me , but yes sadly all gone now.

  • Does anyone have experience with how well this glare copes sitting next to a window? Tech specs says "Screen Coating:Anti-glare 3H hardness" but there is no mention of AG in the Overview.

I will mainly use this for work from home 9 - 10 hours x 4 days - e.g. emails, web browsing, spreadsheets, powerpoints, ms teams etc. I don't play any games or watch movies on the monitor (I use my tv instead) so is it overkill to buy this? Would the HP 2k one for $200 less be a better option for me? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/725127.
Anyone have experience with how HP one copes with glare?

Also I currently have 2x 24 in side by side. Would this 34 in be roughly the same size of both of them. If not, any reasons why I can't put an existing 24 in next to the new 34 in?

My HP 25vx is super reflective so I have to close the blinds lol. My Samsung c24f390fhe copes much better.

Yes, I know I am in desperate need of a monitor upgrade haha

    Thanks in advance!

    • You can always buy a glare guard or something but will wait for someone else to reply as I don't know much about monitors

    • You can put them side by side.
(2*24" would probably be bigger than a single 34", but not the same experience)
I use it for similar reason as you- only work related, just more hours in front of the monitor. So far, the experience is great. I don't use the auto settings, but manual settings.
Cannot answer the question about the glare as the light is coming from the opposite side. But it does have a wide angle and does all that I want it to do.

  • Would this be good as a 2nd screen for my Asus 3060 gaming laptop? It's only got a 1080p screen which I'm not a fan of. But I'm a noob to pc gaming, just not sure what works or not. Cheers

    • +1

it would work fine. can't say if you would hit max frames, as it depends on which games your playing at at what settings.

I bought this monitor as i believe it to be the best curved 34" ultrawide 144hz 1440p monitor option under $1000

  • Just realise this monitor has audio setting however no built-in speaker.

  • Nice, before I buy, any recommendation of monitor arm for this product please? Thanks

  • Delivery takes over a month!!?? thats ridicolous even for Dell. Can anyone who ordered from the ebay store confirm it actually takes that long?

    • +3

Often they are just being conservative. I received mine in just over one week.

    • +2

Just received this afternoon after bought it off from ebay on 25th Sept '22.

  • +1

    This seems pretty decent.

Bit hard to suggest the S2721DGF @ $520 (it's currently that with this coupon).

  • how long has everyone else waited for delivery? I ordered on Monday and still no updates

    • +2

      Ordered Saturday
      Shipped Yesterday Sydney -> Brisbane
      Delivered Today

      • +1

thanks. I got an update today and estimated shipping tmr so fingers crossed it arrives tmr. (i'm from Melbourne)

    • I ordered on Tuesday and no updates. Hope it comes soon. Not sure who I'd contact to find out. eBay message?

      • +2

my eta was Friday and only just got it today. Not sure as I didn't have to contact anyone but probably ebay 1st.

      • Did you end up hearing back or messaging? I bought on Thursday last week and also haven't received any updates since.

        • +1

This is the response I got:

Confirming we're already working on your order, and you'll get your booking information soon so you can keep track of it on our Dell website. Generally, our monitors are fulfilled within 7-15 working days.

We don't have your tracking details yet but we have already sent your order to our Head Office for processing and you shall most likely receive your booking information within the week or early next week at the latest.

          • @JR63: Cheers, guess it's just a waiting game then.

            • @doval: Mine shipped yesterday and arrived today.

              • +1

@JR63: Got the text saying mine's shipped today and planned for delivery tomorrow. Enjoy the monitor!

  • NOOOOOO ! I missed it by a day, was about to order.

    • Don't stress…These sales are monthly for this monitor… I was in the same boat when I wanted to buy two a few months ago…

      • I'm considering the AOC alternative ($699 on the streets) - https://www.amazon.com.au/AOC-CU34G3S-Gaming-Curved-Monitor/…

Currently have 3x C24G1 (1500R curve) wrap around but want a few more vertical pixels and a few less horizontal (5860x1080 with bezels hidden). - so a switch to 3440x1440 should be nice.

My only Q - I can do 120hz on xbox- sx on a single 1080P screen, looks like I'll get black bars and fall back to 60hz on most of the WQHD screens as they're only HDMI 2.0

      • Waiting for this month’s :(

        • Yeah still waiting - going to be gutted if i've missed the boat and these are done.

          • +2

@Monty85: I used the web chat last month and they said next sale will likely be on black friday
