It's on back order so you're not getting it right now…

  • +1

Costco has it cheaper if youre a member there

    • +1

It’s out of stock on costco isn’t it?

  • +7

Isn’t this pretty much the regular pricing for some time?

    • +8

      Apple recently increased the price

      • +2

Wow.. still no family sharing support, and they increased the price? Can only assume they're wishing they never made them in the first place.

        • +3

Guarantee family sharing only comes to Air Tags v2 lol

        • +2

They didn’t increase in US, must be because of poor exchange rate.

    Not the greatest price

Can you post a link to the greatest price?

    • Education store might be cheaper.

      • +1

        thanks.

      • +3

nope. edu store doesn't have any discount on airtags.

  • +5

I didn’t realise Apple had snuck in a price increase. Makes the Westfield/Digidirect deal the other week even more of a score for those who ordered.

  • What people normally use this one for I am just curious? One for our puppy or kitty?

    • +4

Pretty much anything you want to track from daily handbag/backpack to luggage when travelling which shows you when it's loaded on plane with you, confirms luggage landed in your destination airport and even on latest iPhones tracks distance when it's coming out of carousel.

You can even put them on your parked boat or trailer or bicycle. It alerts you when you leave something behind and/or if something starts to move away from it's location. Because it pings off other iPhones automatically, there's a huge network of devices to get updated info without relying on needing a SIM card tracker.

I wonder if I can put on on my grandma?

        • yes, inside clothes pocket

        • You can buy wrist band.

        • +5

can put inside grandma if you're strategic

    • +2

      Inside a motorcycle (scooter).

I bought a single one in July. They must make $35 profit on each one… The battery is supposed to last a year, if you only need it for your suitcase, take the battery out and only put it back in when you need it, no point replacing it every year for 1 or 2 trips.

    • +10

You could leave it in so you can find your suitcase if you forget where you put it.

      • +4

I wish I lived in a house the size of yours

    • I know this is ozbargain and all but you can’t be that cheap! Those batteries are dirt cheap considering you get a year use out of each.
Just use the tag for something else between trips.

  • +1

These are $165 with free engraving from apple. Thats $16 more might be worth it to some.

    • And why do I want engraving on airtag? Genuine question.

      • +4

I’ve got symbols on mine indicating the item they are attached to.

        • +13

          You party animal

      • +1

i would like engraving of my contact number on it, so when my dog is lost - whoever finds it know how to get in touch with me. It helps with IT coming back to me, while the tracking is good for me going to IT.

  • so if i leave this in my car/bike, it'll only ping me if someone has an iphone nearby?
does the owner of the phone get notified of the ping?

    • yes

    • +1

so if i leave this in my car/bike, it'll only ping me if someone has an iphone nearby?

      Yes

does the owner of the phone get notified of the ping?

      No

    • i don't think it's a ping of the owner of the iphone. It's just piggybacking off that phone's signal to send anonymous data via it.

    • If the AirTag is around another phone but not yours for 3(?) days it’ll alert the non-owner.

Kinda cripples them for theft recovery, but they work really well for misplaced items.

  • Back order at RRP, umm…sweet?

    • Not RRP any more

      • My bad, only looked the other day and they were still $149. 10% is a pretty steep hike.

    • Nope, price recently rose to $165

  • Can I use one tag and give the rest to my friends/Family?

    • yes if they have compatible iphones/ipads

    • Yes, as long as it is for them to use personally, and not for you to track them.

      • +2

Why not? It's only illegal to track someone without their permission. I've used AirTags on my kids at fetes and big gatherings of people (RIP covid) so that if they get lost (the kids, not the AirTags) then I can find them.

        • Should have been clearer… if you try and track someone and they also have an iPhone, it will tell them they are being tracked and they can deactivate the airtag. I'm not sure if you can turn off the alert if they actually want to be tracked.

          • @fullspend: But that wasnt the question. The question was whether you could split up a 4 pack and give to friends/family for them to use - which you can.

You can turn off the alert if there is an airtag with you, which is not tied to your apple account, for a prolonged period of time. My wife and I do this with each others airtags.

You cannot deactivate the airtag through software, you physically need to find it and remove the battery.

    • +1

yes, though you can only connect 1 AirTag to 1 Apple account. That is, 1 Apple account can have multiple AirTags attached to it, but an AirTag can only belong to 1 account. Connect process is done once on startup of the AirTag (essentially pulling the tab on the battery) and you cant unregister an AirTag without the owner first deregistering it (stops people nicking them).

See previous comments lamenting lack of family sharing support with sharing AirTags.

Does this work for boogie board bags?

    • +1

Not anymore, the RRP is officially $165 now.

    • -1

Lol and what if PS5s were in stock at RRP? Not a bargain?

      • +1

        This isn't a PS5 is it?, it's a bloody air tag.

  • My Apple EPP had it for $132, which I got a few weeks back.

    It’s now $148.

Glad I got them when I did.

  • Back to $165 Australian Pesos…
