Based on T&C, you can visit VIC and claim! It only said, you need AU bank acct and spend more than 40 bucks. Of course, you need to take picture of your receipt to claim.

    • +2

Awesome, heading over in a few weeks so great timing

      • +1

Wow apparently people really dislike the fact I’m going on holidays interstate 🤔 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • +1

I was visiting Vic from WA during the last promo, and claimed back money on movie tickets and I think Comedy festival tickets.

  • +7

    Includes Swan supporters ?

    • +4

Don't see why not, you're supporting the VIC economy coming down.

  • +1

    Thanks op!

  • +9

Combine with Liven 100% foodollars for maximum bang for the buck.

    • Can you request for a receipt when paying by Liven?

      • +4

        Get it from the counter.
It should show the original amount, therefore you are in fact only paying 25%.

        • Where do you buy this from?

          • @Jklaro: Liven promo in app

      • Depends on the store but most places provide a valid tax invoice with full amount shown. And make sure to ask for a tax invoice, not a bill that has no ABN on it sometimes.

    • +9

Bought a $200 foodollars (buy $100 worth, get $200 )at a local place we go to, and recently it closed down. Contacted Liven, who arranged for the refund either to my Liven foodwallet, or back onto my card.. was sorted in a couple of hours. Was actually surprised it went so smoothly (even though it states if a store closes down, you can transfer the money)

      • Yes, Liven customer support has been pretty good and efficient. Also got a few refunds as places closed down.

      • How does this liven works, what am I missing ? Can yo use fooddollars on any participating restaurant ? Is Nandos in there ?

        • +1

I looked at their site/app and still couldn't quite work it out. I think in effect they provide cashback for some restaurants and/or a discount for others.

          • @McFly: Its bit complicated while googling, seems we need to download the app to find out more, maybe that's why they have left some loopholes to trap innocent ozbargainers.

            • +2

@ChipsChicky: I don't think it's in their intention to trap anyone. Liven is just another app that gives you a bit of cashback up to 20-30% at selected restaurants. Using Liven is also a good way to avoid credit card surcharge fees.

They also have foodollar packages up to 100% (e.g. pay $20, get $40 credit) at certain places. If you sign up using a referral code which you can find from here, both you and the referrer get $10 credit which can be used at anywhere listed in their app.

            • +3

              @ChipsChicky: @McFly @ChipsChicky
              Liven has 2 modes:

(1.) Eat at a restaurant, pay using Liven app (which will deduct money from your Apple/Google pay anyway) and receive 5-20% back in ‘LVN’ points. So next time you use Liven to pay, it’ll deduct the ‘LVN’ point and gives a small discount

(2.) But FooDollars, which is essentially buying prepaid gift cards for a particular restaurant. While doing so, usually those restaurants will have offers such as: buy $100 FooDollars (read: gift card) and receive an extra $100 free! Now when you eat and pay using Liven app, it’ll deduct money from FooDollars giving you essentially 50% off.
Combine that with this deal and you’ll get ~75% off your bill.

              • @kc7: Thanks. This cleared all the confusion, FoodDollars can be used at any restaurant or only at a particular restaurant ?

                • +1

@ChipsChicky: FooDollars: Just a particular restaurant.

      • What place was this?

I bought some food$$ for Scusa Mi. Great restaurant that unfortunately stopped accepting it.

Restaurant still open but stopped accepting Liven payment.

        Refund from Liven was quick.

I can still see the food$$ credit in my wallet but obviously can’t spend it.

    • EatClub deals are good to stack with as well.

      • But if you order via Eatclub, restaurants wouldn’t give you a receipt or would they ?

Would an Eatclub receipt work ?

        • +1

I've received receipt from the restaurant in the past using an EatClub deal.

Also with their recent introduction on dine-in offers, it does say you don't have to announce that you've redeemed an EatClub deal. Just pay with a linked card and the discount will automatically apply so I'd say you'd be able to get a tax invoice from the restaurant and claim this on top.

          • @Craze:

            That one will work..
            Genious stuff 👍🏻

    • How do Liven fooddollars work?

    • My understanding is that fooddollars are effectively a gift card so would be excluded from the Dining program.

      • Incorrect, have used Liven in previous rounds and successfully claimed rebate.

        • So when you use fooddollars to pay does it show up on the receipt or does it just appear that you paid normally?

  • +3

Even better than the last one which was weekday and no cbd

  • +43

"would eveyone like some free money?" (state election coming up)

    • +14

Yeah I was wondering what the basis for this waste of money was. Previously it was to encourage people to go out and spend after Covid left most restaurants and cafés lacking sales and patronage. Now things are back pretty much to normal, this is just vote buying it seems.

      • +8

Well not all the money was used last time, so it actually seems like they're just reopening access to it and making it easier to claim. So why not?

        • +18

Because we have record inflation and recklessly contributing to it will only make things worse?

          • +5

@PotatoCakes: Well now you're just talking sensible economics, nothing like the Vic government.

          • +2

@PotatoCakes: At least its open to everyone. You can either have large amounts of money being splashed on a few powerful people, or a little bit dished out to everyone.
I don't agree with it either, but when it comes to governments it seems those are your choices.

At least this program is (only?!) 30 million, and to get it you have to spend $$ yourself

        • I think the allocated money were all redeemed in the last couple of times this rebate ran?

        • For all that the money wasn't used last time, I still haven't got my rebate :/

      • +8

Now things are back pretty much to normal…

Depends where you are. Plenty of hospitality venues still struggling in different areas, but some of that is caused by staff shortages (which this incentive won't solve).

    • +6

Labor are in such a strong position they don't need to buy any more votes.
      https://www.sportsbet.com.au/betting/politics/vic-politics/n…

  • wonder if I can get away with booze by just buying a pack of peanuts or something

  • +2

Labour shortage and high inflation and still offering these incentives. I wonder if businesses are running the state.

  • +41

    RBA: Stop spending
    Vic Gov: Frreeeee moneyyyy

    • +7

RBA don't survive by winning elections.

      • they survive by battle royale… by order of the peaky blinders

    • But in this case the things you buy you end up shitting and flushing down the sewer

  • +9

The Victorian Dining and Entertainment Program will run until the $25 million fund is exhausted or 11:59pm Friday 16 December 2022.

The Victorian State Election will be held on Saturday 26 November 2022

The program ends soon after the election. LOL!

    • +10

Well there were 3 options (given it is being run) - ending before, on or after election day. Had to be one of them.

    • +1

They actually ended it earlier before the original funds were exhausted.

    • only if its not exhausted before then…

  • +4

Thanks Dan for keeping Victorians spending and adding to the inflation pressures. RBA is going to keep raising interest rates as a result. Anything important coming up to justify this program i wonder?

    • +17

Like this is going to affect national inflation significantly

      • -1

        Every bit of stupid counts

  • State Election around the corner guys!

    • +7

Labor are in no danger of losing the state election, they don't need to buy votes

  • +6

    Definetly better than rubber bullets

  • does that include public holidays?

    • +1

It says make your purchase anywhere in Vic, any day of the week, so seems public holidays are included!

    • +1

Yes, but you’ll also have to pay the 15% public holiday surcharges at some venues.

      • Just found out pancake parlour are now charging 10% WEEKEND surcharge!!!

  • +1

Woot! From previous experience it was super easy to claim and approval was almost instant. Hope it's the same this time round

    • Most of mine were quick but I had one that took weeks for some reason. I wasn't sure if they had received it then it just popped up one day.

      • You claimed multiple in one sitting with little time gap ? I claimed 03 at once, the first one went through immediately and remaining 02 were stuck for ages. I think system takes it as a fraud attempt and alerts if you make multiple claims in one sitting.

        • +1

I think the first one came through straight away.
IIRC I did the next two much later and the first of those took days and the second week(s.)

  • +2

So because it distinctly opens on the 19th, I assume the cap from the last promo doesn't relate? So can claim another $125?

    • +4

looks like it's another $125 from this date, per person with Australian bank account

      • Schweet

      • oh, so its per person this time rather per household ?

        • -1

Includes the little ones with a bank acc?

        • +1

          Never was per household.

          • @McFly: I've used multiple bank acc and its all gone through!

            • @augieee: Do you mean you have claimed more than $125 under your name through different bank accounts?

              • @VRZ: @VRZ yeah! so when I hit the capp of $125.00, I just switched to my other accounts and it went through!

  • +1

Would this include ordering on apps like Menulog!?

    • +3

      No

food ordered through a home delivery company (such as UberEats, EASI, Providoor, DoorDash, Menulog and Deliveroo). A receipt that contains a charge for delivery will not be eligible.

    • +1

      No

The following are not covered by the Victorian Dining and Entertainment Program:

      gift cards and vouchers

food ordered through a home delivery company (such as UberEats, EASI, Providoor, DoorDash, Menulog and Deliveroo). A receipt that contains a charge for delivery will not be eligible.

food purchased at convenience stores, milk bars, supermarkets, greengrocers, grocery stores, service stations, confectionary shops and packaged food stores

    • -1

      Did you read the T&Cs?

  • +1

It's brilliant that dining is now able to be claimed for any day of the week. Every time I submitted a claim during the previous campaign I wrote in the feedback box that it needs to be claimable 7 days a week. I got my wish!
Also noticed in the fine print it's now available to anyone no matter where they live as long as they have an Aussie bank account so tourists and supporters of the bloods can take advantage too.
Also hot tip: Make sure you ask for a tax invoice when you pay otherwise you can't claim! Not every business gives them out willingly.

    • +1

Make sure you ask for a tax invoice

So, till receipts are not acceptable?
It will be pretty awkward asking for a tax invoice at some places.

      • +4

Where would it be awkward? I always need to ask for a tax invoice to claim for work expenses and almost every time they generate it without fuss from the POS system if they didn't already provide one anyway, they are used to people needing tax invoices for these kinds of reasons. Unless of course you pay a "cash rate", but it's pretty well understood you won't get an invoice for that.

        • +1

Till or register receipt if it has tax number and name of business still called tax invoice

      • +2

Most of the restaurants I went to the last time know about this program already and no need to feel embarrassed to ask for the tax invoice.

      • I'm guessing the places where it would be 'awkward asking for a tax invoice' would not be the kind of places covered by this scheme.

      • +1

Till receipts are fine as long as it has the following information on it:
        * ABN (required for dining only)
        * Event location (required for entertainment only)
        * Purchase date
        * Item description
        * Total price (including GST)

    • +1

And make sure the receipt is in English.

Saw in Melbourne Chinatown the receipt not in English, which made me wondering how that’s possible.

      • +1

Also cannot be hand written receipts e.g. the old receipt book with a ABN stamp on it.

    • Great tip, Katies (gone now) wouldn't give us one for some reason…

  • +1

    Would this include discount events/dining such as groupon, https://halftixmelbourne.com, https://www.promotix.com.au/, https://www.itsonthehouse.com.au/ ?

    • +4

Yes, last time i claimed a 25% on a groupon purchase, i guess it was for flippin awesome burgers in hampton. However please make sure to ask for a receipt at restaurant just in case.

  • +6

Can I buy the Melbourne Zoo annual pass and get the rebate? How about sites like Klook or Groupon? Thanks!
