About $20 more than the exact same item in another ebay listing
OP is 15amp, yours is 5amp ?
valid point, well put…
These mountable, encapsulated: waterproof, shockproof 17amp versions from the OP may interest anyone who wants one to mount in a camper/4x4 or such: $162
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272745759596
7amp version $121:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282554075585I've got the 17amp encapsulated one and I would choose the Blue Smart next time.
I don't need something that's built like a tank (and weighs similar too).
it's PITA to change between 12V High and Lithium profiles by logging into the App each time, OP's one you just push a button. Thanks for that… I just went through comparing them and came to the same conclusion, just pulled the trigger on the OP's one, it seems to be near on $50 cheaper than anywhere else…
There's also the 4amp version for $95
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282549936265Or 5 Amp for $116.62 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284047916349
I have this charger. Love it.
Does it require any 'user interaction' to start charging, i.e. pressing a button? Or once plugged in it just does its thing?
It doesn't require any user interaction. Just plug it in and it'll start charging using the last preset.
Perfect. I've got a solar charged set-up of AGM batteries that feeds my router, a couple of Raspberry Pi, and some other small items. Essentially: UPS combined with free solar power.
This winter it died a couple of times, not sure if battery capacity is degrading or we had more extremely cloudy days in a row.
The Aldi car battery charger I already have doesn't start charging unless I press the mode button a couple of times - something I can't do from remote or with an automation. Turning on a power point on the other hand is easy. Guess I have to bite the bullet and upgrade :-)
tried to purchase on ebay ,keeps showing $219..99 ?
Are you adding the code in the checkout?, for me with Plus the code was in a checkbox down the bottom of the checkout page, I didn't actually have to enter it…
Yes ,added code but it wasn't accepting it .I don't use ebay plus is that what is stopping the code
SVE20 is for non-ebay plus members
PLSAV22 is for ebay plus membersSince you don't have ebay plus, try the code SVE20 and it should work
Much appreciated thanks for your help.
How do one of these compare against the top selling ones for sub $100 on Amazon?
You get what you pay for
Lithium charging, cycle logging per battery, programmable, firmware updates via the bluetooth app.
What makes this superior to CTEK or NOCO?
I'd love to know the answer to this as well.
Prior charger to our Victron 12|25 (12V and 25A from 240V) was a Ctek. The Victron is a step up in build quality, "heft" and general usability. Add to this the bluetooth interface is great for battery selection and firmware updates - our Blue Solar 75|15 (75V and 15A from a solar panel) had a firmware update last week when I turned it on.
The bigger Victrons have selectable amp output to the battery. AGM batteries have a "10% of capacity" charging rule of thumb, so a 130AH AGM battery gets 10A from our 12|25, whereas a 100AH LiFePo4 with a decent BMS? Give it the full 25A.
As far as this sort of charger, they are similar (although this has Bluetooth monitoring built-in) but if the price is similar, I'd go Victron. I have their MPPT solar charger and the 5A IP65 charger and been very happy with both.
I'm not sure about Ctek or Noco but Victron do refine their product and push out firmware updates from time to time.
Victron gets used in a lot of off grid and van/caravan set ups. They know their stuff and their gear is top notch (though you pay the price for it).
Hi would the 17amp unit be suitable for 100Ah lithium battery or am I better with 20 or 30amp?
Depends on the intake of your battery too, my 132AH is limited to 20AMP input.
"Depends on the intake of your battery too, my 132AH is limited to 20AMP input."
My says maximum charge current 50A same for discharge .
Charging slower (to a degree), should not be bad for the battery, just takes longer to get from empty to full. I'm facing the same decision, currently I've still got an AGM, but it might get close to end of life, the charger I buy now should be a size that still works well for Lithium.
@team teri: I'm in the same position… I figure a 15amp will be ok "for me", I rarely use caravan parks or have mains power but when I do it's overnight, so 15amp will be adequate to fill a 100/120AH LiFePO4 overnight, I really never need a "fast charge"…
@FLICKIT: Same logic, just pulled the trigger on the 15A from this deal. Don't need 25A, but 10A only saves $30 and 4A/5A/7A would be too slow for me.
@team teri: I think I'm going to jump on one of their MPPT lithium chargers for $136 also:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284198403421
Victron gear is almost never discounted…@FLICKIT: Bloody hell new charger mains + Mppt charger hope this Lithium stuff is as good as they say.
Pulled the trigger on both.@Osborne: It's a significant amount of money but lithium is the way of the future, I cant see myself ever buying AGM again so I have to make the leap eventually…
My budget is limited but with how much batteries cost I think the investment in good chargers is important to get the best life out of them, it doesn't seem wise to risk the batteries on cheap no-name chargers or such…
@Osborne: @team teri … If you want a cheapie DC to DC Lithium charger also, 20amp $120
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/725820Certainly not the quality of Victron and I dont really trust Renogy gear, but cheap… also, these dont auto-sense voltage, you need to connect up an ignition wire to activate them…
Are these any better than the 30$ ones sold on ebay? Seems like does the same job?
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/124168661810
Reviews not bad either - https://www.amazon.com.au/TOPERSUN-Automotive-Maintainer-Pro…
No good for me, it says on Note 2 dont use on Lithium charging.
Ah this one charges lithium as well. Nice. I would go with an iCharger for multi battery charging tho. More custamizable.
I went even cheaper, got this one here, back then with coupon less than $20. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284558817165
Blew up the first time I connected it. Seriously, bang, flash, smoke.
Got a refund, but wow, that could have burned down the house if it didn't happen the moment I switched on the socket, but later during the charge…
I have the ebay ones that I linked. Used it a few times now and seems to be working fine till now (touch wood). Charged the battery fully and switches off. But then, I read the reviews and bot it. Hopefully works for a few more years, fingers crossed.
I bought the 10A version almost a year ago off eBay (different seller) and I'm very happy with it.
Spending so much on a charger was not easy, but you forget about it quickly and appreciate how it intelligently charges your batteries,
in my case a 130Ah LiFePO4 battery which I bought off eBay also.
You can also check the amp hour capacity of your battery which in my case showed that it came close to the 130Ah capacity that it claimed.
Having an IP65 rating is good also (Protection against low-pressure jets (6.3 mm) of directed water from any angle)
so when you recharge a dead car battery you know the Victron is rain protected, I still cover it with a box.
My old 30+ Y.O Arlec battery charger had no auto cut off when the battery was full, so you could boil the battery if you forgot about it,
so having auto cut off when fully charged was the biggest bonus.
The amount of data that comes out while using the app is enough to keep any data nerd happy for a long time.Does the app provide battery condition report or has a function for battery testing?
Condition not really I dont think, but it does show how many AH it's chucked in and such, so you can see the batteries capacity…
I wonder what is the price?
