Return Airfare to Japan via Manila: $727 from Mebourne, $742 from Sydney @ Philippine Airlines via Momondo

160

These are definitely the best fares to Japan right now - even though at present you need to book via a travel agent for Japan, there is talk of further easing restrictions in the coming months - and there are dates for these from February 2023 all the way through to August. Use google flights to find dates, then search them in Momondo to get them a bit cheaper.

Flights are via Manila - watch out for long stops if you'd rather avoid those. Bags ect included.

Tokyo from Melbourne for $727
Tokyo from Sydney for $738

Osaka from Melbourne for $727
Osaka from Sydney for $742

I would strongly encourage anybody considering transiting through Philippines (especially on throughfares) to have a really good think about their actions. Look up the reviews online and you will see what I mean.

Reviews about Airlines or cheapflighthunter or the Manila airport?

Idk why everyone complains about Philippine Airlines when Qantas provides the same if not worse service at a premium price.

Not sure how Japan VISAs are at the moment but remember to check in case you are denied entry as they are still in pretty strict lockout, last time I checked

I’m commenting solely on the transit process of Manila Airport, regardless of which airline you fly with 👀

      • Interesting… Qantas are great when I fly. What's your issue with them? I even enjoy the slightly mature staff, not trying to be too cool. The lack of self importance is endearing in Qantas staff…

Here is what i rate the airlines going to Manila:

      Best
      Qantas

      Good
      Philippine Airlines

      never
      Cebu Pacific

      • Manila transit process is terrible, regardless of which airline 😓

      • +1

        With price being

Qantas > Philippine > Cebu Pacific.

I would rate Philippine over Qantas at the moment. I’m sure Philippine have their shit together regarding baggage at least.

        • You need to go identify your bags “manually” even if you are just transiting.

This isn't even the worst story I'll bet

I recently returned from Manila via Scoot and it was excellent. Airport also very efficient on the Phillipines side. To enter manila the Web form is crazy but frankly you can fill almost any crap into the fields and nobody checks. My travel buddy did the same but paid twice as much to fly Qantas. He ended up stranded in Sydney for 48 hours without domestic flight.

I believe it would be from same terminal so should be all good. Really good Deal overall

    PAL = Plane Always Late

  • "The airport is named after Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., who was assassinated at the airport on August 21, 1983." TIL

    • assassinated "allegedly" on the order of Ferdinand Marcos

  • we did transit in Manila before and it was ok.nothing different from other airports.

as far as I can remember, unless this changed already.

T1 - old airport (where the assassination happened)
T2 - newer airport (exclusive use for Philippine Airlines, both domestic and international)
T3 - newer airport (for use of all other airlines, aside from those using T1)
T4 - old airport, mostly for domestic flights (this i'm not sure)

but if this flight is just within T2, then it would be ok. as long as you do not have to deal with immigration, as one will only be transiting thru T2. unless something significant happened these past few months.

  • Just recently flew Pal to Brisbane from Malaysia. Great airline!! pity about Pal terminal 2. Chaos, 2 bathrooms, couple of atm, cash only stalls, found 1 shop able to use credit card. No WiFi, not enough seats apart from end around the corner where its quiet. I wouldn't do more then 5 hours at that airport ever again. Terminal is a real letdown for a superb airline!!

  • I took PR212 from SYD to MNL a few weeks ago. The plane and service was much better than I expected. New plane with huge screen and plenty of movies. Food was better than 90% of international flights I took.

The transit at MNL airport was terrible…small, hot (AC was weak) and chaotic terminal with no MacDonald or Starbucks, hard to get free wifi if you did not have a local number. Both my in&out flight changed gates compared to what the transit counter told us.

Luckily I did not have any check in luggage that I do not need to screen my luggage at the airport again.

Overall, the flight itself was 4.5/5, terminal 1/5 from my perspective. I booked the flight by PR during this Christmas as their biz class fare(of coz transit in MNL) is similar to the Eco class direct full service flight by other airlines.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Asia really went overboard during scamdemic

Is this a bargain? Seems like standard prices during those dates.

    • It's a standard price for pre-covid times. In the current market its a bargain - even Scoot (no bags or food included) is coming back at $1000+
