Bauhn 65" 4K UHD Tizen TV by Samsung $669 @ ALDI

200

Tizen is a Linux-based, open-sourced web OS that is open to everyone, and supports a range of devices including TVs, mobile devices, home appliances and even signage.

As of now, over 190 million people in 197 countries around the world are enjoying Tizen OS through their Samsung Smart TVs – though given the TV’s communal role in the family space, the number of actual users is expected to be much more. Tizen is a platform that truly encompasses Samsung’s user-driven values of “Screens Everywhere” and “Screens for All”, and the company is set to further expand the Tizen experience through collaboration across various fields including those of video, art and gaming.

1-year warranty (without at least an option to purchase an extension) for a TV should be illegal

    • +8

Australian consumer law would likely kick in and they'd have to honour after a year as I believe it's the expected reasonable life of the product

      • -1

ALDI literally have signs hanging from the ceiling saying their products are covered by the ACL (I mean of course they are but I'm not aware of any others that hang those rights from the ceiling)

        • +1

All retailers legally need to display this somewhere. Look at the registers, normally a little sign there.

      • True, but that will require going an extra mile to stand your ground with quite an average chance of success. Comparing to an almost 100% guarantee of free repair/replacement/refund when having a Warranty.

Tizen huh? I wonder if these are Samsung factory seconds…

  • +1

Is this Bauhn or Samsung TV

    • +1

As per the title, Bauhn. Runs Tizen by Samsung as opposed to WebOS or Android TV.

    • Probably has a three times superceded Samsung seconds panel.

  • +9

don't get mistaken - it's not Samsung TV. Tizen is Operating System developed by Samsung. TV probably uses cheap screen and won't match the quality of Samsung TV

    • +1

Well my last Samsung didn't last 3 years, so not much quality there either.

      • -1

Hey, least it didn't explode like their phones do ¯ \ _ (ツ)_/¯

          Point NOTEd

      • That sucks, but I've had a Samsung TV that's been going since 2014, no problems at all. Like all products sometimes you get unlucky.

        • my Samsung TV is still solid since 2010

          • @Ziaina: mine is 2007. really big and chunky compared to today's models, but still working

  • +1

over 190 million people in 197 countries around the world are enjoying Tizen OS

    Seems doubtful.

    • +1

When you consider it's 190m people, not devices, it seems pretty easy. They sell about 10m tvs a year and about 10m watches. Over 5 years that is 100m devices and if each household has 4 people your already well over.

If you mean you are doubtful that they enjoy Tizen, then I have no argument. It does not excite me.

The wife bought a Bauhn 55" for the kids playroom, it was laggy AF and blacks were horrid, also really didn't do the xbox series X justice. Replaced a Series 8 1080P Samsung pre smart TV, the kids were playing with a 1 inch super ball and caused the panel to crack. Was happy to see it go, the old samsung was way better.

Just bought a Samsung serif 55" after our 4 year old 65" bauhn died.

The remote and software definately Samsung but what screen and engine it uses would be the question.
Our bauhn had dark corners which was ok for letterbox but could be annoying in bright scenes and the sd was flat and blocky.

The serif is 120hz qled with HDMI 2.1 and the image processing makes sd sources alot easier to watch but twice the cost for a smaller ,but better sized for the room, screen.

    • My 55" Bauhn died right on the 4 year mark as well.

    • Serif is the one we are looking to replace it with. Does it have the xbox app?

      • I believe it has Xbox game pass ultimate so you can play games with just the screen and a controller.
Price fluctuates week to week but got the white 55" for $1200 from Samsung when they offered me a coupon code.
It works well in a bright room but the processing can take a while to get used to if you use auto enhance

  • Interesting,.. well if not happy with it Aldi do have a great return policy what 60 days return no questions asked?

  • Aldi don't even list the specs or model number. Who knows what this is?
All the hype is on the "Tizen by Samsung" while conveniently ignoring anything pertaining to actual picture quality.

    • Why confuse budget shoppers with info about picture quality when you can just hoodwink them by including a total POS OS from a big name TV manufacturer?

“It’s a Samsung, it must be awesome!!!!”

  • My 47inch Bauhn TV from i think over 10 years ago is still going, ok actually the power button on remote has failed out of all buttons (fortunately cloned Bauhn remote on a universal remote), actually paid the same price $699 but for a 47inch 1080p Bauhn TV, certainly got my monies worth out of it 😀

  • over 190 million people in 197 countries around the world are enjoying Tizen OS

    like by choice lol :D

The remote controller on the image was very simular to my Samsung TV remote.

  • So umm..specs?

    • +2

Some specs are at page 36 in the manual:

      • I punched in the tv dimensions without stand into Google and this model also comes up
Panasonic tx-65jx800, a model that looks to be euro exclusive from 2021. IR receiver placement looks the same

I wonder if this Bauhn TV uses the same LED panel?
