    Carbon..
Bit lighter but wouldn't recommend in case you drop it or crash, especially for MTB lol. Don't usually even get carbon bars on road bikes.

Most half decent road bikes (with carbon frame) absolutely do have carbon bars…not sure where you got that info from.

      • -2

Yeah I put them on one of mine, one has aluminium Bars like most bikes, unless you got sucked into paying 10-20k on one, in which case you'd expect it. Funny thing is they are still heavy because of the disc brakes

Sorry, again, that's not correct. 3 or 4k will get you a full carbon bike, and plenty still available with rim brakes.
Sorry, I don't mean to pick, but there may be new cyclists out there searching for the perfect bike for them, and they need accurate info!
There's no way I'd buy a bike with disc brakes….i travel overseas alot, and apparently airplane travel with disc brakes can be a right pain in the bum. Sometimes simple is good 👍🙏

          • @HappyPants: You are going to have to explain to the rest of us why travelling with on an airplane with disk brakes causes rectal discomfort.

          • @HappyPants: Ok that's fine. My defy didn't come with carbon bars and stem. 4200 RRP in 2017. No doubt they cost a bit more now.

I'm just saying it's probably the least standard carbon part optioned on bikes. It doesn't save that much weight when you consider it Is potentially quite fragile. You should really throw the bars if they're dropped or crashed.

            • @G-rig: I've got carbons on my TCR Advanced roadie, my Glory Advanced downhill, my Reign Advanced enduro, my Trance Advanced trail, plus my wife has them on her Pique Advanced. Only bike I don't have them on is my eONE-SIXTY 900e eBike, but that has holes in the walls of the bar near the shifter mounts for internally routed Di2 cables through the handlebar, so carbon may not be practical for them to do that with. Never had a single problem with any of them, and the downhill has seen some serious crashes. They are better for fine vibration damping than alloys, so it's not necessarily about weight.

              • @Maximum64: They do ebike versions

                • @shap08: It's not due to it being an eBike, it's due to it having Di2. I haven't seen any carbon mountain bike ones with extra holes though the walls of the bar for the Di2 wiring, though it has been while since I looked. I don't ride the eBike as much now anyway as my little fella is too big to sit on a shotgun seat.

              • @Maximum64: Sounds good why not.
Plenty of other things you'd upgrade first for weight saving is my point.

                • @G-rig: Absolutely agreed, but for most people its not actually about weight, it's about small buzzy vibrations that make your hand numb, especially on a mountain bike.

                  • @Maximum64: Fair enough, I mean if you are changing width/style of bars then why not - $130 is pretty cheap in the scheme of things compared to road bars. Not interested in all that integrated cockpit stuff, it's a mechanic's nightmare haha. Still a bit of effort and time changing stuff around.

As for contact points, gloves and different grips/bar tape helps. On my fixie I had Oury grips which were great.

Awesome just got the 35mm rise thanks! Been waiting for these to go on sale for a while.

  • Any recommendations on an establishment to take my old Craftworks FRM125 (2004 release I think) for a service/maintenance, gears jump/lock/play up now & again when riding. Preferably SE Vic area?

  • OP do you notice any benefit on small vibration damping ie; rough roads, potholes etc? Thinking of grabbing one for the bikepacking bike so more long distance comfort orientation. Already have a renthal fatbar lite on the enduro rig but I heard these are great for vibration damping/comfort

    • I feel so. But it could be all mental justification after spending so much for it.

      • 😂👍 This is my conundrum. Already have a nice Thomson AL trail riser on this bike so $140 is a fair bit for some potentially imaginary extra damping

Just a note….make sure you have a 35mm clamp or factor that in as an on top purchase
