Samsung Galaxy S22 5G 128GB $979.99, 256GB $1,069.99 Delivered @ Costco Online (Membership Required)

470

One day only 9th Sep.
Seem to currently have all 4 main colours in stock (no purple though) of both 128GB and 256GB.

Officeworks 5% price beat is also on offer.
OW has some colour/size combinations OOS, but will price beat the ones that are available. Need to call them on 1300 633 423 as stock is only at the main warehouse/distribution centre (not much in actual stores).

Good luck getting OW to price match Costco. Their price beat policy is designed to exclude them plus from my experience the staff at the OW stores I visit scrutinise every request like a crime scene, even if the saving is only about $5!

    • +3

I literally just did exactly that, hence why I included the info in the post.
The guy who answered the phone asked where the pricematch was. I said Costco, he looked it up and said "all good".

I agree that the experience can be variable depending on which in-store staff you get, but the call centre people generally seem to accept Costco as an allowed option.

Good to know, i'll keep that in mind for future purchases that i'll ring up if wanting to beat Costco.

      • Can you pay on pick up or do you pay over the phone?

        • I paid over the phone for delivery to me directly (free delivery).
There was also the option of picking up at a nominated OW store, but I think I would still have had to pay upfront, not when I arrived at the store to collect.

    • At JB I've had times where they accept Costco as long as you can show a Costco membership.

    • Nah mate, worked for me pretty easily

Alternatively if you prefer to have a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic bundled, Telstra is giving it for free on their Telstra store

But the Samsung S22 or S22+ is at original price instead

  • +1

Get the s22+ for a bit more, the s22's battery is not the greatest.

    • +5

The s22+ is also much larger. The vanilla version's portability is a unique selling point in this market.

  • Any suggestions for a phone of this size with good battery life and (ideally) close to pure Android? Doesn't need to be a rocketship, just good for work apps and browsing.

    • I don't get why people still think they want "stock" Android. Samsung's Android is a lot better than Pixel's Android.

      • Not sure why people think they want multiple apps installed for the purpose. Always seems like the closer to stock android the better the device runs. Pixel runs great, but battery could be better.

        • +1

With phones that have a lot of storage and custom launchers so you can make it close to stock, Samsung's software is about as good as you're going to get. They promise 4y of software updates, and pixels are notoriously buggy and unreliable.

I went from an OG pixel XL -> OnePlus 7 Pro -> S22+ and while there are some very minor frustrations with the Samsung software, it's more than made up for by having support for a decent length, actually useful inbuilt features like screen record, expanded screenshot and dex, and stuff feels close enough to stock when you chuck Nova launcher on it.

If you want a compact phone with good battery life, and samsung's software isn't stock enough for you, the zenfone 9 is your best bet. Just be prepared for it to only get updates for 2 years, pay more compared to other options (and grey import it for the time being).

          • @BenR31415: Thanks, had previously had a Zenfone but confirmed my suspicions that this is pretty much the most suitable in current market.

      • I went from a Pixel 4 XL to a S20 Ultra and I could not stand it :( it was slower, and I found the UI to be more clunky than it needed to be

      • +1

Why do you say so? Coming from OnePlus, I find Samsung has too many bloatwares.

  • May I know all the AU Samsung flaships are single-sim here right? I need Dual-sim for sure.

    • I believe it is dual sim. 1 x Physical Nano and 1 x Esim https://www.samsung.com/au/smartphones/galaxy-s22/specs/

      • +1

Oh, thx for reply, I need dual-physical-sim to have my Chinese sim card standing by. BTW, I checked the one on Chinese market, it is HUGE discount there which called "10 billion subsidy" by PDD (who is replacing Taobao (Alibaba) rapidly in China). The price of 256G is CNY 3979=AUD 841.2. Link here: https://www.smzdm.com/p/55553161/
The link goes to "SMZDM", The Chinese OZB :), and PDD link can only be opened via PDD app.

        • And yes, all Chinese version are Dual-physical-Sim

        • Are the bands different, would the phone still work properly to its full potential here in Aus?

          • @vawiyoci: I compared the Samsung official website specs:
All 2G GSM, all 3G UMTS, CN missing, maybe they are supported, just not mention.
4G FDD LTE B17(700) CN missing
4G TDD LTE: B34(2010) AU missing
            5G FDD Sub6: N2(1900), N3(1800), N5(850), N7(2600), N8(900), N12(700), N20(800), N25(1900), N66(AWS-3) CN missing
            5G TDD Sub6: N38(2600), N40(2300), N78(3500) CN missing, N79(4500) AU missing.

        • The Chinese version is cheaper but you may not be able to use some functions like "Samsung Pay" in AU. I'm in the same situation as you, needing 1 physical card slot to fit my Chinese sim card. My solution is to get the AU mobile with esim. A lot of plans support esim in AU now.

          • @whjheu: Good to know and it is a very good solution. Hopefully one day we can get rid of this 20th centrury physical sim card thing just as iPhone 14 US version. Samsung Pay does not bother me much as I can use Google pay.

            • @kobe8tang: Same situation with google pay I think.

              • @whjheu: No, the first few days when I arrived Australia with a Chinese version S20, the google pay was OK, now it's not. I had same version S8 was OK all the time. Very Strange.

    • 1 physical, 1 eSIM

  • +2

    useless battery life
    way worse than expected.

  • Same price on samsung edu page

  • Actually OW said if membership is required, they won’t do the price match

    • As noted in prior comments, it can depend on who you speak to.

We purchased an iPhone about 4 months ago in-store at OW. The lady at the counter started to tell me "no, we don't do Costco" but was overheard by her manager at the next register who corrected her and then looked up the Costco website to verify the current price and availability and proceeded to "price beat".

My purchase today of the S22 was done via the OW phone number. The guy who took the call didn't even pause when I said "Costco". He just looked it up online, again to verify price and availability, and away we went from there.

    • I called them twice today and worked twice

  • Damn, misread as the price for the +

  • I've had a pretty ordinary experience with this phone. Apart from the camera and fingerprint sensor being excellent, I feel like Samsung's done too many weird things to the UI. Pressing in some apps might load an app that's in the background and bring it to the foreground; gestures can be quite slow so multitasking can feel sluggish or do weird things such as load another app other than the one that you pressed on or behave as if you held the app for longer than you did and open it up in a half-frame multitasking window.

I've experienced this even after factory resetting (without restoring from any backups). Also have had some screen glitches time to time, I think usually when the device is very warm from charging or a game.

  • i had a pixel 5 and upgraded to the s22. not worth the upgrade at all, returned the s22. the battery life was way worse. everything else was pretty similar

    • How do you return a phone?

      • On Amazon just click return

  • does this have a 48 megapixel camera like the iphone 14 pro max does? Would be interested in comparing it with this if it does.
