Acer Swift 3 EVO 14-inch i5-1135G7/8GB/512GB SSD Laptop $798 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Harvey Norman

250

Perfect for what I was looking for. Nice and light, good look & good specs for the price.
Bonus point for me is the USB-C charging capability (ordered the HEYMIX 66W charger from the recent OzBargain deal too !).

can you link to a better current deal for an i5 11th gen laptop with usb-c charging ?

screen on the phone is a bit small and office365 on mobile devices / web isn’t quite the same as on. a lap top.
phones are great for content consumption but not optimised for content creation e.g writing school assignments, developing web sites, etc ….. posting photos of yourself or what you eat or wear on instagram isnt what i call content creation.

    • This is i5 mate. Pretty decent imo, tho probably will be trashed by your beffy pc.

  • This actually looks pretty good deal. I'll be forwarding this to family and friends who are always asking me what laptop to buy.

I've been waiting for a sale on the surface laptop go 2 but this laptop has better specs. Only thing it's missing for me is touch screen.

    • I was very keen on the refurbished Dell 7490, but very glad to have come across this. A brand new I5 with lots of the boxes ticked.
Perfect laptop for traveling & at home without spending too much. More than enough grunt for everyday use.
My current laptop has touch screen but I find it a bit annoying when I accidentally touch the screen - just not use to it.

I've had good service from HN, and sometimes it's the best deal.

Which is why you price-match or price-beat with another retailer instead

      • they scammed my dad to spend like $250 on 3 yrs of Product Care n Replacement only for me to break the glass touchscreen on a laptop and them saying that product care n replacement don't cover it

Unless it's the best deal going

      Not even then.

      Still nope.

  • Bonus point for me is the USB-C charging

why there is a recent hype for USB-C charging ? it is only for low power devices, isn't it ?

    • +1

You just need one charger for all your devices. With apple being forced to adopt USB-C, you really will need just one charger and cable for all your mobile devices.

      • I haven't seen any laptop which needs more than 100 W with an USB-C charger though (basically can't support a dGPU), is there any ?

        • +1

Not sure if there's any, but I'm sure anyone with a bulky as gaming laptop wouldn't mind a dedicated power brick.

        • +1

Only gaming laptops really. 200w USB-C charging is also coming soon(tm) but that'll probably be on 13th gen laptops so still a bit away

    • You can even charge your laptop with a USB-c cable connected to an external monitor, such as Dell P2422HE. It reduces cable clutter.

    • It's a bit of a revelation for me too from the comments in other laptop deals. No need to pack the AC charger in the luggage is great IMHO.

    • typically under 70w …..the gaming laptops still also have a special connector to charge at 200w+ …usb-c on some of the high power gaming laptops keeps the laptop going but doesn’t increase the battery reserve if using it …..

Ram is not upgradeable, maximum 8GB

  • Review for the Acer Swift 3, but the spec is a bit different though.

can't really compare a 14" vs 15.6", size does matters to some people

    • if you can use 15.6” format, bigger screen is better as is 12th gen vs 11th gen …..but you’d want ips screen …..had TN on my laptop and eventually swapped out …..was $140 for ips panel.

14” are good for school use as easier to carry around and desks are smaller than at home.

  • Is the ram upgradable?

And also why the hype with USB-C Charging? Isn't this available in all current gen devices?

    • no, usb-c has a power limit ….. some laptops such as gaming still have barrel or proprietary connectors due to how much power they use, some manufacturers still have barrel connectors so that people don’t used small usb chargers e.g 30w and wonder why it takes hours to charge and then complain about the laptop …… it’s changing and usb-c for laptops using under 70w is the trend.

  • The reviews on Amazon are pretty mixed
