No thanks, adobe refuse to have permanent licenses and there are cheaper alternatives, they ain’t getting my money yet

    • my adobe photoshop elements has permanent license …..can install on 2 machines but only run on one at a time …..if i upgrade machine, need to release the license and reactivate on new machine ….no subscription

      • +2

        Permanent license… that they… don’t sell anymore…

the days of getting a serial number on a box and DVD and you just install are disappearing as people are internet connected not just to activate products like photoshop elements, but you need to be internet connected to patch your windows 10/11 and also patch things like photoshop elements to the current version of code … you could disconnect and run in isolation after everything is installed and up and running …. i see it in control rooms in industrial sites because they don’t have internet access and patch via SCCM and SFTP to get it into SCCM but less than suited for home use.

    • What are some alternatives you'd recommend?

      • +4

Been using GIMP for years with no issues.

        • +4

This, I also replaced illustrator with Inkscape (a free software with little inconvenience), and Premiere is terrible anyway so I replaced it with DVR aeons ago

@Pugkin: Agree. Inkscape is awesome too.

The affinity series has taken a decent % of adobe anti-subscription. One time fee, free upgrades, multiple computers and very capable of advanced functions. Tons of training on youtube. $84.99 at full price. Affinity Photo is the photoshop replacement. My son uses it all the time. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/.

      • Haven't tried affinity but I found https://krita.org to be a decent free alternative if you set it up with the Photoshop layout and keyboard shortcuts (there's a preset for it)

      • Photopea. It's free.

Photopea is a web-based photo and graphics editor. It is used for image editing, making illustrations, web design or converting between different image formats. Photopea is advertising-supported software. It is compatible with all modern web browsers, including Opera, Edge, Chrome, and Firefox.

    • If I may ask, what restrictions on this license should I be aware of?

      • can install on 2 PCs, but only use on one at a time …..if you upgrade a PC you need to release the license from old PC and install and activate on new PC ….. nothing unusual about companies tracking how many times a license has been installed …..windows 10 is no different as can only install and activate on single PC.

i did a new machine build without de-activating photoshop elements ….so effectively tried 3 installs ….contacted adobe and they released the old activation and i installed on new one so was back to 2 installs with one on the new PC …

It's Adobe. Immediately overpriced. Just kidding, they make great stuff at super prices.

    • Great stuff that crashes if you so much look at it funny, premiere pro is the only software that has nearly made me snap my laptop in half

      • premiere works great on mine, no issues …. and also photoshop elements, works great.

        • Well it’s a rampant issue that many have, most people I know who use adobe software have at least one that’s a nuisance

  • Thanks OP, I've been waiting for the price to drop. I'm assuming 2023 version will be released at the end of this month but I'm happy to go with the 2022 version as it has everything I need and is a substantial upgrade from my existing version.

If they had a non cloud/subscription version of the full photoshop, I'd be happy to pay for it..

Cut down too much compared to the photoshop.

if they at least keep easily editable layer mask available I will consider it. But for now the much cheaper alternative solution affinity photo got my money and I will stick with it for a bit longer i guess.

    • photoshop and photoshop elements don’t compete with each other …..one is designers for professional use and people earn a living with it daily…..the other is hobbyist / enthusiast who work on photos spare time / weekends.

i use elements to fix photos where light is in wrong source, or flash was too harsh, red eyes, restoring old family photos that are now brown and have damaged areas, add a few effects, etc.

my son has photoshop as part of his high school software bundle but he builds logo, presentation art, etc …..way to complex for me who just fixes photos i’ve taken or add effects.

Or just pay $5pm with this deal for the full product
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/679088

  • Come across softwaredigitali.com on google search the other day that sell photoshop cc 2022 perpetual license for 35 euro about AUD $52. Too good to be true. Anyone purchased from them before? I am afraid it's a scam.

Sounds like the old 'reselling a corporate bulk license' which works fine till the serial gets scrapped for being abused.
