About 10% off of a phone that is supposed to be replaced by a new model in about a week is not exactly mindblowing.

      • +5

It’s in the news. Google it.

          • +3

            @B Wat: What's unlikely?

      • +2

I got an email from Apple. It says Please join for special event September 8th. That's always when they release new products. This isn't a good deal at all. Stay put for 5 more days.

      • +2

My guy… Probably the most uninformed comment on the planet.

      • +3

Yeah, what if Apple doesn't do the thing they've done every September for the past decade and a half??

Oh man, how good of a prank would it be if they just had Jony Ive walk on stage and go "no iphone this year, now watch me dance!" and then spend twenty minutes doing the Macarena!

        • Biggest troll ever if he goes on stage. Then does the chicken dance.

      • You must be either living in the jungle or still in the 2000s if you have to see the actual phone in store to find out the specs.

      • -3

Don’t know why all the negs

      • Actually they do it every september havent you fuvking noticed that already?

        • Apple don’t disclose details of product releases ahead of time so who knows

          • @B Wat: Thats the point. They wait till they can do a big song and dance about it on stage.

    • What's going to be "new" with the new model?

      • Who really cares? At least it won't lose a couple hundred dollars in value within a fortnight

        • Thats the thing. Tech should lose value over time. The only reason why apple fans hate this is because they want to resell their apple stuff so they want it to stay pricey.

My stance is if you want the latest and greatest then sure. Pay to play. But you should never have to expect the next guy to pay part your way there.

    • from what i heard about the new iphones, i don't think there's a vast improvement in the new one.

      • Tbh there is really only so much you can do with a phone.

        • i wonder if it's better if they skipped a year and gave the next gen new chip and more ram.

its really weird to look at a iphone 14 and it's actually a iphone 13 plus.

  • +3

Catch has same deal no membership required

  • +16

You'd have to be an idiot to buy it even at this price considering the imminent release of the 14!

    • -8

Wait for further price drop with the likelihood release of the 15!

      • +7

Joke not applicable in this instance.

    • -1

So you wouldn't be an idiot dropping $2k on the new one about to come out?

  • +6

    Thanks OP grabbed 10

    • +5

Tell me if you don’t get rid of them. I’ll give you $500.

    • can you screenshot your receipt ?

    • +1

Why 10?? This deal is about 13

  • telstra day was only 1756 for 256gb pro max

    • +5

Yeah man so many foldables everywhere.

      • +5

Yeah I can't remember the last time a saw a "slabbed" phone. I didn't even know they still sold phones that couldn't fold. Amazing!

    • they said the same thing when candy bar phones came into a world of clamshell phones.

lol. enjoy your phone with moving parts.

  • +2

    Hodl.

  • +1

iPhone 14 pro will get release in another week or so without the stupid notch.

  • -4

Notched display and then another pill shaped display on the iPhone 14. What a joke.

  • +1

$204 off the RRP thats 1 year old?

  • +5

    Iphones are crazy expensive 😳

    • Not my iPhone 7. still going strong!

      • -2

iOS 16 drops support for the 7. Apple trying to force people to upgrade.

        • +2

What a crap! Well, iPhone 11 here I come.

        • nobody's forcing anyone to buy a new phone. it still works if you don't upgrade.

samsung has been forcing people to upgrade every 1.5 years with their sh itty update support practices if owners want the newer security patches. only recently they followed apple on the 5 year OS support and try to make it like they invented it, only for samsung flagships though. unlike apple that does it for the entire fleet.

    • i guess it's like choosing a Ferrari or a civic, both will take you from point a to point b.

      • +5

Its more like choosing a Volvo or a Tesla. With an iPhone, its like a Volvo these days. Nice finish, high price, never particularity exciting, won't push the boundaries, and a safe bet for many people. A phone playing catch up these days. Some people prefer a phone that will push the boundaries, introduce new tech, that's your Telsa. Sometimes the body work doesn't quite stay on, or random issues happen. But you don't care, because you're there for the cool tech.

        • So what cool tech do other phones have?

          • -1

@Daniel-Tillet: Too many to list them all

          • @Daniel-Tillet: My phone folds completely in half, turning it from a normal-sized 6.7 inch slab into a tiny square that literally fits in the palm of my hand. I'd say that's pretty cool.

        • +6

i bet you have a Samsung. lol

        • What an apt description, given how no one likes Tesla owners.

          • @smartazz104: …. until you become one yourself, and then you wondered why.

        • I have a Tesla battery.

        • i find it funny but i have both phones and they are nowhere near a comparison of a volvo or a tesla. both have merits but to imagine that a foldable phone is a tesla… like damn, that's such a stretch.

mate, both takes sims from the same crap telcos that does dodgy data connects.

          but go on.

    • Crazy good too :-)

I'll get the 13 or the 14 Pro. I'll wait to see the specs of the new one. If it's substantially better than the 13, I'll grab the 14. If it's marginally better, I'll find a deal on the 13.

Getting rid of the notch will be a bonus, but won't add much 'value' for me.

    • yeah, so is mercedes’ and bmw compared to corolla …. i used to have iphone and loved it….was short of cash one year and needed new phone and bought android ….. 8 years later still haven’t had enough free cash for an iphone and just go with $400 androids every couple of years as as android aren’t great for android updates as phones get older and no point developing software for an older phone nobody buys anymore….tablet is still ipad luckily …….

apple stuff isn’t cheap but it’s great if you have the cash and enjoy the apple experience or have other stuff in their ecosystem …..

apple controls their CPU roadmap and backward compatibility of IOS …..with android as qualcomm release new cpus they don’t need to factor in backward compatibility just bring out best cpu they can and manufacturers will cut new version of android for it.

      • +1

Apples iphones are definitely well made. Definitely agree, people out there still rocking iphone 5, 6, 7, 8.

  • This or wait for an iPhone 14 that looks just like the 12 Pro Max

    • It's the specs that matter not so much the shape of it. Macro camera is a must, for me, on my next iPhone. Rules out the 12 so it's 13 or 14 Pro for me. I'll decide after the revival.

    • the iphone 14 rumoured to be using the same chip as the 13 pro max. so a discounted 13 pro max might be a better option.

  • Here's something I always thought of but never considered, can you use Officeworks price match and get cheaper on an exact same item from Costco?

    • +2

      No

      • +1

On what grounds? Is it because it requires a membership at Costco?

        • +2

          That's correct

          • @dosada: Officeworks match Costco, Amazon prime and catch member deals. Source, I work there.

            • +4

@domadgee: Everyone here who has tried claims the opposite

              • +1

@dosada: Yeh the training is piss poor, unless you go the extra mile and actually ask for clarification from head office they won’t communicate it

              • @dosada: i was knocked back at offcieworks on prime deals as they said costs to be prime member …..offered price match on the non prime price.

            • @domadgee: How do you ask Amazon to match product pricing?

              • @Skullytor: It depends on who you get in store. I’d highly recommend price matching over the phone with head office and getting them to click and collect it to your store of choice. They’re much better trained than the 16 year old kid you’re dealing with on a Sunday arvo.

    • You could price beat officeworks from catch - $1817 so after officeworks 5% price beat it comes at $1726

      catch

  • +1

Wow ..what a deal …. Thanks op. Got 5

    • -4

      please post your receipt

      • +2

you must be fun at party

        • +2

think people are over the “bought 10” thing ……it’s not a constructive comment or helps anyone and just means more stuff to scroll through to get to useful comments.

          • @garage sale: On par with “bikies”. But does make it easier to know which users to add to my blocked list.

      • And hand in your OZB membership if you really bought them…

  • +6

How did we get to a place where a phone for $1814.99 is a deal… :/

    • -3

A retailer decided to discount it

    • the deal is compared to pricing that normally exists …..not cheapest way to get functionality …. 4 ply toilet tissue costs more than 2 ply i like 4 ply so like to get it as cheap as possible.

i can get aldi cola cheap but prefer the taste of pepsi so want to get pepsi cheap.

i can get android cheaper but some people want iphone cheap.

    • same place where used cars are selling at near RRP recently.

supply shortage drove up prices, producers realised market has higher tolerance to price… the price stuck there even supply came back.

the GPU and AMD cpu prices reflect the normal 'price correction'… which is weird thing to see as someone who has lived a few decades… where today you can buy an absolute beast of a PC with the price of a small computer in your hand.

a decade ago, people would've laughed hard at you when you say you paid 2k+ for a mid-spec'ed flagship phone.

  • +6

    how is this a deal?

    • +3

It's available for less than it's usual price.

People have different requirements, disposable income, salary sacrifice arrangements, etc.

      • i’m on android and can never understand why android users have this hate for people that can afford iphones ….. samsung flagship phones are similar price as iphones …. i can’t see myself paying more than $400 for a phone but i’m not judgemental of people that do ……but they can sell what they make at the prices that charge and don’t have a corporate mission statement to make cheapest phone just best and innovative ….. raspberry pi have a mission for affordable computers and price accordingly $120 when you can get one as sold out …. if their mission was to make the best computer they would go from $120 to $2000. if they charged $200 instead of $120 they would also not be sold out.

        • I don't really understand the whole fanboy thing. I've always been aware of what I'm buying and the capabilities of the product.

I'm personally a bit sick of the comments which aren't helpful, are misinformed, or just bash a brand with no context. There are plenty of reasons to be upset with Apple or product but they rarely come up(eg imminent launch of the next gen is worth mentioning). Most downvotes are just cowardly and from users who lack anything meaningful to say.

My personal criteria for a phone is USB-C, OLED, camera performance, and NFC. Performance and wireless charging as secondary concerns.

Everyone sets a different budget based on their situation. The problem with this type of spam is that it just arbitrarily sets a price point. I don't really think the cost/value ratio is even considered. This is OzBargain not OzFrugal.

You see the same thing on bags, cameras, headphones and other products. Plenty of the users complaining are buying other high end products - GPUs, sunglasses, etc. These users aren't consistent in their biases.

These products fund development and gradually trickle down into cheaper products.

        • root of the problem is a lot of people find it hard to comprehend 'other scenarios' outside of their own immediate needs.
you can notice this in phone choices, car choices, or even society decisions like welfare..etc

only when it affects them.. "I don't get why people X" until they become the same subset of "people" themselves.

i use xiaomi phones, old iphones, new samsungs, or pixels, it's just a damn phone. there are a lot of people that love to make it their entire personality.

  • +1

Can price beat officeworks from catch - $1817 so after officeworks 5% price beat it comes at $1726

    catch

    • -1

OW wont price match costco price, since u need membership

      • I said price beat it at OW from catch.com.au. Not Costco

  • +1

Just wait a week and get something 10-15% better for an additional 10% cost.

  • +4

Not at all a deal, prices will drop more than this after 14 releases most likely

  • +3

$1800 for a year old phone is hardly amazing
Costco back at it with their I cant believe it's a deal pricing

  • I think at this timing this should be around $1500

    Seriously.

Is $200 off actually tempting? 14 pro with better camera & cheap & etc coming in weeks time

    • 14 pro will be cheap? Where did you get this idea from?

      • +1

        lol chip sorry

        • haha ok. But the 14 pro rrp will be more than 13 pro rrp at the time of release though. That way, their old phone still hold its value.

          • @itstuan: only $100 higher but base storage is 256gb

  • +2

Some people just need to upgrade or replace their phone right now.
This seems to be the cheapest available for this particular phone.
That's what it's all about at the end of the day.

It's not for me, but thanks for posting OP!

    • +1

yeah …if you need a new phone urgently e.g need it for workand can’t wait ….it’s the best price today.

  • I'm waiting for iPhone 14 before deciding which to get. On iPhone XR now.
