Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 Engine Oil 5L $26 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Repco

90

Have been waiting for a Magantec 10w40 deal to pop up, and by chance checked the Repco site today and they have it for 50% off.
My local store had sold out already, but the Supercheap across the road was happy to price match.

  • Waiting for the mineral vs part synthetic vs synthetic oil debate

That is not the debate you are looking for … The question is why the need for such a heavy oil?

20 year old car maybe. Holden ecotec's love this stuff.

It can be recommended to go up a grade after 200 thousand km.

      • Only if the engine is noticeably burning oil, otherwise keep using the same viscosity you've always used.

Don't like these semi synthetic or in this case part synthetic, who knows it could be one part per million synthetic. Better to buy full synthetic at least you know what you are getting.

    • Still made from crude oil.

      Just like your tv screen.

    • Unfortunately, nearly all oils marketed as 'Full Synthetic' are merely heavily hydrocracked Group 3 mineral oils:

The cheapest actual Full Synthetic oil, as in, a Group 4 oil made from PAO's and esters, is Penrite 10 Tenths Racing:

Starting at $100 - I've never seen a Group 4 oil in any viscosity for less than about $80 on sale. The good news is that the cheap Group 3 'Full Synthetic' oils are just fine for mainstream engines used in regular duty.

This deal is a week old, prob why your local store ran out. I was able to get some last week with no issues.
