i would fit but this isn't below the PS5 minimum speed requirements?
From memory, recent ps5 firmware is actually now removing the minimum speed requirement and instead slowing down the performance of nvme drives to reduce console temps.
Good point.
"The YouTuber GT Canada has conducted similar testing on Corsair's PCIe 4.0 compatible MP600 1TB Core SSD can deliver 5,600+ MB/s read speeds on the PlayStation 5's SSD performance test. While we would not recommend this QLC-based SSD for long-term use with Sony's PlayStation console, testing like this highlights that PlayStation 5 consoles could be expanded using cheaper SSDs than previously expected. "
Probably not ideal.
I did see a reddit post that mentioned the shroud that you remove to install the SSD won't fit back in due to the thickness of the heatsink.
I’m looking to make my own portable SSD (ie buy a case for a NVME SSD).
Any experts weigh in if this is the cheapest option?Speed isn’t the biggest deal as it’s just for backups but I personally would prefer it to be small (so not a portable HDD size).
You don't need a Gen4 NVME for your purpose - look for a cheaper one in the required size.
I don’t know if any external drive or enclosure would be able to make use of Gen4 speeds
Good point - do you have an example link of a product so I can see what I need to look for? I’ve been looking at SSDs (Nvme because they’re smaller than the SATA SSD) but this deal seems cheaper than most Nvme 2TBs
Apologies if this is a dumb question
@Advantan: The Samsung T7 sounds like something that fits what you want
This 2TB is decent at ~$300 using the afterpay codeEdit: Same seller (Binglee) has the 1TB for ~$150 after same coupon in red or gray
@FireRunner: Thank you!! Might end up getting this - however I can see NVME 1TB for around $110 and enclosures are around $40 which would end up being the same price as the Samsung SSD.
The enclosure should be smaller and Nvme is probably faster right? Any downsides with going via this approach? I recognise buying the Samsung is easier though
@Advantan: Advantages of using your own enclosure is that you can take out the drive if enclosure is damaged or replace the drive if it dies.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the disadvantage is the low end enclosures won't perform as well because of subpar controller and lack support for things like TRIM. It would depend highly on the exact enclosure so you might have some homework finding a suitable one if go that route
I got some questions about upgrading SSD for my daughter’s gaming PC (https://www.mwave.com.au/product/msi-nightblade-mi3012au-min…).
Will this fit my daughter’s PC?
Is this ok for OS, gaming main drive?
Or Samsung 970 eco plus better? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/173756367734?hash=item2874afc376…
Thanks. They will be very similar for your use case in terms of actual performance you'll achieve. I'd say go for the Corsair drive as it is cheaper.
Does anyone know if this fits in a ps5 with the stock heatsink?
