  • Pity it seems the only Cintiq Pro size on sale is the 13, I've been hoping to upgrade to the 16 for a while.

    • +1

      There’s the 32” but even on sale it’s $4k :p

      • +1

Haha yeah, too big for my desk… and my wallet

      • I've got the 24" - I find that easily enough.

At $500-$600 for the flex-arm to support it without wobble, if you don't like the desk stand.

  • How would the refurb'd Cintiq 16 compare in performance/responsiveness to just using a bog-standard iPad with Apple Pencil? They're about the same price

    • +1

Cintiqs need to be plugged into a computer (MobileStudios don't) - the performance/responsiveness would depend on what kind of processing power you need/what kind of work you're using it for. Cintiqs have no noticeable latency when connected to a decent computer setup.

For light usage, an iPad would probably be pretty decent and can also do many other things (and is portable), especially the Pros which have great displays and colours. Cintiqs are great when you need the processing power of a good computer and excellent stylus pressure sensitivity/buttons, though the displays of some lines can be a little off especially without calibration. I haven't had much issue with my Cintiq Pro, but I've heard the regular Cintiqs can be a bit finicky.

      • Yeah I reckon an iPad Pro would be a better long-term option, given the portability

        • +2

Yep! A lot of professional digital illustrators have switched entirely to iPad Pros since they're pretty great all-round. Really comes down to whether you need the processing power or need programs that can only run on a desktop/laptop (and potentially ergonomics, but there are ways around that for both devices)

        • +1

Oh also - I think you can also use screen mirroring to use an iPad as a second display too, with things like Luna Display, but I don't think those are flawless yet

          • +2

@kicha: Far from being flawless, they're frankly crap. If you're prepared to deal with sub 10hz framerates and adjust your brain to deal with the 2+ seconds of lag, they're fine. Otherwise you're better off spending half the cost of an iPad on this Cintiq and just dealing with a slightly lower quality screen.

@TheRealCJ: Good to know thanks - I hadn't personally tried it so I had my reservations but I didn't know they were as terrible as they are.

              • +1

@kicha: It's typical Apple style: works great with other Apple products, like dogshite with any other brand.
