Even for this price, they seem a little bit ridiculous.
Until then, I didn't even know that these headphones required batteries. I always thought they were standard wired headphones.
I would suggest the Pioneer HDJ500Ks that are on sale now for $74.50 via this link http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71267
You pay less than half price, and (according to the reviews) the HDJs pull a much better customer approval.
I bought myself a set, they arrived two days after I ordered them (free express shipping, you've got to love that) and the sound is beautiful!
    Highest recommendations.

    • I can't find the HDJ500Ks on the Pioneer site…

I believe the HDJ500's have been Sold Out, im pretty sure I purchased the last set :)

        Awesome Headphones!!!!!!!!

Sorry Binjuice! :( I didn't check. I assumed they were still in stock.
Glad you think so Simon! I'm loving them. Use them at work and when I muck around with my DJ decks. Crisp and clean. :)

    • i got a fake pair for $70 off aliexpress
it was bluetooth too lol so better than the original

Why you're buying this in the first place… is really beyond me. I always chuckle on the inside when i see someone wearing one.

I do have to give kudos to the marketing/advertising team making millions of dollars for the company.

I do feel bad sometimes when I see people that are so brand-deluded. Buying iPhones because they're Apple, buying Dr Dre Beats because they're Dr Dre Beats.
It's difficult not to sound condescending, but some people are missing out on truly great quality and value products, and settling for second best because they've gone for a fashion label over function.

      • +2

iPhones because they are easier to use (debatable I know) than a lot of android phones and they have a wider range of apps due to more people owning them and hence more people making apps.
Though the cost may be a tad over what you want to pay depending on how much you value the iphone's accessability and decent software, dr dre beats are pure pieces of absolute shet. $100 product max -> $400. Wut.

Well Android have well and truly closed the gap with respect to the Marketplace: http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/wp-content/uploads/2012/…. Anybody developing apps for the iStore and not developing for the Google store are missing out on essentially 50% of the Market Share.
I still consider Apple to be a complete fashion brand. It's all about status. The ease of function is very debatable. It's a purely subjective interpretation of an interface. I don't want to get either Google or Apple fans riled up, but when you remove branding and put two products next to each other, and a more 'restricted' product is priced higher than a less 'restricted' product, there's something wrong with the world, in my own personal opinion.

        • With respect to computers I definitely agree with you. With respect to phones I have changed my mind. I realised a while ago that I don't need a lot of functionality or customization from my phone.

All I use it for is sms, calling, a bit of casual browsing, the occasional bit of facebooking. All I need is something that looks nice and puts all of those functions within reach.. so I don't have to take any extra steps to get to them. This is what apple does best.

Yes - it does presume to know what functions I use most and does hide a lot of settings away in obscure places.. but reality is I rarely see the need to access any of the advanced settings on my phone. In short - the very patronising design philosophy that annoys the hell out of me when it comes to computers, is actually good when it comes to phones. It's essentially the same reason that I used to always buy Nokias in teh pre-smartphone days - intuitive inteerface is actually what I value most in a phone.

oh the one is red is more expensive.

    • +1

      case in point..

Minus another $50 and they would be worth the purchase.

Don't buy Beats for gods sake.
    Stop giving that muppet money.

You never need stray from Sennheiser/AudioTechnica/Klipsch/AKG/Beyer.

    • Agree with this. It's more for fashion rather than audiophile. Check also Grado. Note: some of those headphones require separate amp.

      • +1

Funny you mention that - I've always found some of the higher specialty audiophile headphones far more fashionable and comfortable than these ugly pieces of red plastic. The headband alone looks like it could hold timber in a vice.

        • If only my Audio Technica AD700 were fashionable… getting looks when I wear them on the train >.<

    • +1

Sennheisers are amazing. Creative if you want to be cheap. Both are regularly posted on Ozbargain.

      • Ah thats true I forgot about Logitech UltimateEars (UE 600/700/TripleFi's) which is cruel because I quite like my UE700's.

        Sorry Logibro!

  • +2

I prefer to buy mine from dealfox

(I've just been reading through their Easter thread - fascinating stuff)

These are ok. My bro bought me some i-Beats for my phone with a mic. Its ok. Good for rnb and rap and hip hop as you need that deep bass (ofcourse these beats sound better than what i have but i'm assuming its a similar sound).

But when i want to listen to some Hotel California or Ed Sheeran or Anything other than RnB…..Audio Technica m50.

I'm so glad i didn't buy another set of beats.

Don't get me wrong this isn't a beats hating post. Just letting people know theres other good stuff at half the price. Look it up, Audio Technica M50. Good stuff right there!

    • lol apparently it is a beats hating post! To each his own and people on here seem to forget that ;0)

    • Hehe M50's are my overears for home. Such beautiful packaging and design (cords a bit too tightly wound but easily fixed).

      All hail the M50's!

  • Are they really that bad? Surely they're at least as good as some $100+ headphones?

    • +3

They're not bad at all. Either love em or hate em.

      • like dubstep. ;)

  • awesome!

    • sorry meant to say awesome price, not seem them anywhere cheaper

  • +1

Agree sound is so so only, got the Beat Solo for free (actually not free, have to pay postage of $19.95) when I bought the HP Folio 13. Definitely not worth that much. My Klipsch S4 sounds better that the Beat Solo, and it is only $60 from ebay.

  • +15

Beats are really good quality, Im told they were designed by a doctor , so its also optimised for your ear. Its really scientific, thats why it is expensive but worth it!

    • -8

Dr Dre is a rapper, not a real doctor. LOL

      • +3

Woosh. And you even negged him too.

      • Not sure if troll was fed or….

      • He sure is - not like Dr Seuss - now he is a doctor you can trust

    • +2

      Gold. +1
