      Search teh model number on youtube - theres one vid which shows the unit in action and sounds pretty decent.

      Also found a review in German or another language and had it converted to english with google. In short - Review stated sound was average when standing up right but when mounted to a wall it was awesome.

        That's how I test out all my sound equipment before I buy. I listen to it being played in youtube videos through my laptop speakers. I do the same thing when choosing a TV to make sure the image quality is up to scratch.

    Thanks for this - was looking for a mini system for my daughter's birthday and was going to buy a Sony, but for $50 more I get a "$400 system" - well, at least, its much better than the Sony for roughly the same price.

      Go to JB Hifi and swipe a $399 price tag off something and put it on the box, then when she unwraps it and sees the price tag, go "oh my, I didn't remove the price!"

    just spoke with pioneer regarding their site saying stock is available yet there being no 'add to cart' button.

    they mentioned that they have received a larger than expected volume of orders over night, though they will update their website and add more stock at 12pm today (33 mins ago)

    i have checked a few times though it hasnt yet been updated……….. letting the masses know to keep an eye on it :)

      Yeah, I have a big capacity iPod to use with it (current dock connector), and I am predicting there will be a nice short dock converter on the market soon for future use with the connector v2.0

    First thanks for the post and this is great bargain.

    I brought one hm30 refurbished for 149 last night and I kept worry about should I get the brand new one and the sound quality of that unit, so I went to JB hifi today to find out.

    The unit that I test:
    Pioneer hm30 (382 at jb hifi) and pioneer XWNAW1K slim speaker
    Sony CMTMX750NI ( 400+ at jbhifi)
    Yamaha mcr-332( 417 at jbhifi)

    How I did the test:
    I put same cd into all the units list above and played same song on normal setting. My result only focus on sound quality, it doesn’t consider any function.

    Firstly compare between pioneer hm30 and pioneer XWNAW1K slim speaker, when is in lower volume, I can’t really tell, but when you turn volume up to max, pioneer hm30 sounds a lot better, because it micro hifi after all, but if you after slim and small, XWNAW1K is what your looking for.
    The cons of pioneer hm30 is when you turn the volume to max, sound quality is a bit losing, it start a bit noise and bass is not as much strong as normal volume, but then again, for price we spend 149 to 199, pioneer Hm30 , I personal think it’s the best micro hi fi you could get for under 200 on this market atm ( except if sony and Yamaha do half price as well)

    if you have a bit money, Yamaha MCR-332 and sony CMTMX750NI is better option for you, the sound quality for these 2 unit it is way better than pioneer hm30, sony CMTMX750NI had very good bass, if you love bass , this will the unit for you within 300 to 450 range. Yamaha Mcr-332 is good at full range with pure music quality, but
    I got to said sony does better job on bass than Yamaha, but sometime when bass too heavy you might miss out the detail of mid and high range sound, so I guess its depend on person.

    But then again, this just my personal opinion, not professional opinion. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Price is $548 however if you go into the features section the last line indicates a Retail price of $399??? Price inflation?

      Yes, looks like they've just put the XSMC1 specs in there, which has an RRP of $399. The headphones are $149 elsewhere on the website, thus giving you your $548 figure. It's a bit of a silly bundle if they're not reducing the price at all.

      It is stupid of apple to change the iPhone connector design given how many docks there are already out there in the world. By the way. As far as I am aware this is just a rumour based on leaked photos. I'm still waiting for my holographic iPhone from previous leaks… lol :-)
      PS there will be no iPhone 5. It will be called "the new iPhone" lol
