I have this model, Love it. It maps each room individually, In the App you can name each room. EG Bathroom , Bedroom, Study. which helps when setting up a schedule. It did clash with my speaker stands and got stuck under my bed, but to be honest I had no idea how it made it under the bed. However, I was able to create virtual walls in the app and now it just avoid them. I have 90% carpet. Initially I was filling the dust bin daily, but now, it runs 6 days a week and I empty it on each Saturday morning. I come home each day and it feels like the house has just been vacuumed, Its bloody brilliant.

Got these just before prime day. 410 with the bonus thing (prome day was 399).

Great little thing. 2 saved maps only though and I suggest clearing the floor from wires.

    • How about toys like Lego, would it be smart enough not to suck it? Thanks

      • +2

I'd say they'd be sucked in (depending on the size).

The more expensive ones would have better and more sensitive sensor. But the n8 would bulldoze things. If it can't, it'll back away.

      • +5

Since I had it, my house has been tidy. Need a bit of effort at the beginning but now I only need to tell my kids "tidy up or Bailey will eat all your toys on the floor".

      • +1

It would suck em up, but the dustbin isnt a bag, its a plastic container that you empty, im sure you will see them in the dustbin. For the device to work its best , its best to clear the floor of socks and undies and toys etc, however if you have a room that is always a mess, you can either close the door, or not add it to the cleaning schedule or even add a virtual wall , there are a lot of options.

How good is the mopping with it and cleaning afterwards?

    • Mopping is basically dragging a damp cloth over the floor. Not great and we hardly use it.

    • +4

Most of these have limitations in their mopping. Having said that if I feel the kitchen floor needs a clean I have been known to spray it with cleaner and sent the vac to do three laps of it when I go to bed.

Perfect clean? No. Broken the back of a greasy floor? Yes.

Especially for 25 seconds of effort.

      • I read a choice article where they compared floor cleaners to plain water (for regular mopping) and there was basically no difference. I still have the urge to use a cleaner though haha

    • I have timber floor boards and I use the mopping once a month. Works quite alright for generic cleaning. If you spill something you better use your mop.

  • +4

Bought during prime day for $399. Works a treat! Was hoping for better in terms of mopping. But vacuuming is good. Maps save relatively well. You will have teething problems at the start when mapping the house, as that takes some time to build a map of the floorplan. But just got to set vacuum power to low.

The robot connects to wifi and there is an app that helps to manage the robot. Gives you updates on the activity and how much battery life is remaining. Perks in the app that allow you to collect points that can be converted to cash for purchases from the manufacturer's website.

There is a facebook group where you can get help and advice from.

I would recommend the product given the price, plus it saves you time to kick back and relax.

Have the T8 model which has a scrubbing mopping upgrade attachment for extra which is good for those with lots of hard floors.

Attachment does not fit this N8 model

How is Ecovac compared to Roborock?

    • +2

For me, the app was better in the ecovac and you use the app a lot. I setup a roborock s6 pure and the mapping wasn't as good as the ecovac.

      • Thanks for sharing :)

      • How about navigation and vacuuming?

        • +1

I have mainly carpet (short pile) and it vacuums great, initially I would fill the dust bin each day, which surprised me , now its once a week after a week of cleaning. It cleans the room by sweeping up an down the room, overlapping itself. The navigation is great. adding it to google, I can even say, Hey google, clean the study, and off it goes.

  • Any recommendations for laminate timber flooring? This model or any other model?

    • I cant say about mopping, but the roborock s6 pure is great for vacuuming the timber floor at my parents, so the ecovacs would be the same.

    • Buy this one. You only need to mop once in a while (I do it once a month)

I loved my T8 while it was working but it got stuck under a couch once and ran out of battery, after which it refuses to charge beyond 1%.
Seems to be a common issue across multiple of their models so I’d be cautious about getting anything ecovacs again.

    • Yep I sent my N8+ back for a refund.
Might look at the Roborock Q5 if it gets to Australia.

    • Weird it doesn't go to sleep. I have a Roborock and it got caught after it pulled in a scarf. I was away at the time and noticed it went to sleep, and I came back home it was on 80%.

    • Interesting, I had that issue with my 8 year old Roomba. It was 8 years old though…

Somewhat related, slightly disturbing article https://www.theverge.com/23293687/amazon-irobot-acquisition-… … different brand

Bought this for 399 from Amazon recently. I also have a 5 year old xiaomi robo vac.

The deebot performs poorer than my $4xx xiaomi. The path it takes and when it gets blocked is simply hopeless and it loses its way. Batt isn't as good. Suction isn't as good too.

    I returned it to Amazon.

  • Can this go up on thick rugs from hard floor?

    • That's difficult to answer, have a look at some of the videos reviewing the unit, depends how thick it is i guess, However I have a rug and it fails to get on it head on, but it then trys again at an angle and gets on it fine and cleans it.

Stack up the other code PAUG10 OR PAUG12 along with this one.

      • Thank you :)

      • It doesn’t stack for me. Gives an error cannot be applied to this product. Both PAUG10 OR PAUG12 come back with same error. Contacted ecovacs, they say it’s eBay code and they can’t help.

    • I had same issue as my account was not created in com.au, I had to recreated account and was able to see the coupon listed automatically

Love mine can be annoying sometimes when the map just disappears and you need to redo it. And just recently it has started to go home proceed to empty itself and then go back out to continue cleaning. Have not figured it out yet but still worth doing less vacuuming.

    • can be annoying sometimes when the map just disappears and you need to redo it.

This is my only complaint with my t9+, happens far too frequently.

If the robot detects anything more than a subtle change in mapped layout, it clears the map and starts over.

Other than the map issue, awesome device that has saved us countless hours in the year we've had it.

  • Is this a better deal or N8+ at $765.90? Looks like the only difference is the self empty station.

  • We have had the 920 for over a year now, it has been pretty solid.

Sometimes it take stupid paths, but I imagine all robovacs would be about the same. The app is OK, we have a few steps so sometimes it needs to me lifted to other areas, and relocating can be tricky but works in the end.

I just got an ad in the app (for their products) for I think the first time, hopefully it's not something they try to push because that would suck. Hehe.

How is this compared to Roborock?
I have got an aging S5, looking for a replacement.

    • +1

Oh please don't. I got the N8 to replace a 5 year old $400 xiaomi robovac and I regretted it.

I'd say the S5 would be better than my xiaomi

  • Surely the suction can't remotely compare to a normal vacuum. Mainly dust removal I assume.how does it navigate around a dining table and chairs.

    • Mine navigates really well and even gets into the corners under my kitchen cupboards. I do clear the floor of loose obstacles prior though.

  • I got this recently during Prime Day. While it's decent and gets the job done, it's navigation doesn't compare to my previous Xiao mi robot vacuum. The mapping features in the app are useful though.

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought one. Based on reviews on youtube seems to be a decent unit.

  • I have the 920, before that i had an old LG, my LG seemed to always detect things and then move around them but the Ecovacs 920 seems to always have to bump into them to then change direction, its detection is via bumping like the older robo vacs i had. Is that the norm? Mapping and everything is still there but it still seems to bump before changing direction.

    • That's what I noticed too. I made the mistake of watching it to return to the dock past a dining table. I almost wanted to hit it with a hammer.

    • Agree. Ecovac navigation is ridiculous. I got so frustrated with it.

    • +1

I have Ecovacs 920 and Roborock S5, latter being much better in navigation. 920 is always bumping around, even when it is LIDAR and is not supposed to do so. When it gets stuck (which it often does), it doesn't go to sleep until its almost out of battery. So when you help it get out of the spot, it will head back to charging instead of continuing with the cleaning. Oh, and it so often even seems to lose track of its charging base let alone the maps.

      • It is odd right because I thought it's meant to use it's tech to move around objects instead of bumping into them. Mine is also gets weirdly stuck and runs out of battery. Or once it dropped over a couple of pet beds I had put up on a box by constantly bumping the box. And then it got stuck under the pet beds..

        • I have come up with a weird conspiracy theory. Maybe they had outsourced the algorithm for LIDAR and ran out of volume licenses after a while, so disabled it OTA in older models, so that now older models like 920 and 950 only use bumper mechanism? :)
Anyone tried reverse engineering the firmware?

    • +1

Ok confirmed after a month this robot vacuum is complete trash. Waiting for a deal for a roborock now. Sigh…

  • Wish they had the N8 Pro with it's better object detection on sale :(

  • +2

I've been looking for something to replace my old Roomba, that just had a dumb algorithm, and I love it. Seems like every time a see a robovac on OzBargain the comments are riddled with complaints, are there any good ones under $500? I found a Roomba on special and everyone was laughing at me saying it's so bad compared to the Xiaomi, Deebot, Roboroc etc. But you go to threads on those and it's always full of complaints!

  • +2

Mine arrived today. 100mins for 100m2 of cleaning. Picked up much more dirt than I thought it would. Able to climb 30mm ramps too.

  • Does anyone use this to mop the floating board (not tile) floor? good? thanks

  • Had mine for a couple of weeks now and I’ve been really impressed. Admittedly my apartment is probably best case scenario for a robovac - one level, laminate floors throughout, 40m2 - but the only real issues have come from me forgetting to tidy up before it goes out for a clean (cat toys jammed up the brushes). The navigation occasionally makes some odd choices but overall it’s been well worth the money.
