I'd get one that's M and b key compatible. Also consider if sata + nvme is necessary for your use case.
I spent a bit more last month to get one that did it all since I troubleshoot all types.

This one is NVMe M + B key. The SATA version is US$10.99 but no dual protocol enclosures in this listing.

    • could you please share what did you get?

  • Would this be an alternative (cheaper) to buying a portable SSD?

    • +1

Yes. If you've picked up an NVMe SSD elsewhere for less then this is a good option. Just take into account it's not always faster than some of the other more high end portable SSDs but shouldn't make too much of a difference.

      • Thanks, thinking about using this in the car for dashcam

        • +3

Dash can may not provide enpugh power id look at more Samsung endurance cards or WD purple SD cards.

    • I've used these as high speed portable SSDs and they can certainly be cheaper than a dedicated high speed portable SSD. Obviously using an m.2 drive in an enclosure will get way higher transfer speeds than most cheap thumb drives you see on ozb (especially write speeds)

I've had to switch to using these in some of my small projects because the slow speed of a thumb drive would cause the embedded software to crash in certain devices.

  • Anyone actually used one of these?

    • Considering it's a new model I seriously doubt it. I have other Orico NVMe enclosures and they work perfectly fine.

      • Agree, have a few SATA enclosures. They are OK. Portability a plus. I had one break down, the others have been fine. Price means you might accept one dud every now and again.

    • I've used their 2.5" SATA enclosures and have one of their previous model (clear case) NVME enclosures and they've all worked fine.

  • Many thanks OP. Had been eyeing off one of the Sabrent tool-less enclosures on Amazon for a little while, but didn't see the price drop.

  • $16.67 for me in AUD.
    ($29.63 - code $14.47 + GST $1.52)

Are you buying in USD and the M'card rate works out better?

    • Yes. If your card has no currency conversion fees then pay in USD and at PayPal checkout ensure it bills in USD. It'll say see currency options underneath the card.

  • Ah, OK, thanks.
I obviously don't have that option. I just get the Paypal rate whichever card I use.

  • Are SSDs reliable???

    • (Nmve only) (WD or samsung ) yes very 500gb (300tb endurance) 1tb (600tb endurence)

  • Does this work with a SATA m.2 drive?

    • Only if you choose one of the options that say SATA.

Aliexpress listings often call different options "colors" but make no mistake, in this particular listing each "color" is a different model and only 2 of them support SATA m.2 drives.

  • could have come 2 weeks earlier. I spent $40 on a Ugreen one..

  • "These codes have already been claimed."

Thanks Op. almost forgot to say :)

  • a suggestion to OP (Clear)

it would be great to know what was the original price, and the coupon discounted price
I was looking into this item last night, and just now, the listing look about the same, it confuses me - was there any discount?

    • +1

$19.99 usd ex GST on the listing right now.

  • I have a 2.5" SATA oricon case, got if for only $3 about two years ago. Still works fine.
