Are the batteries compatible with any other system?

    • +1

      I doubt that very much.

      • Specially patented voltage?

        • Specially patented battery and charger mount more like it

pic of battery connections here at 1m40s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkPSxeuiGvk

      • Thanks. Looks unique in any language.

      • Thanks for that. I’m wondering if that’s the same as the toolpro/worx batteries. It looks pretty similar to me, without grabbing one to compare

        • +1

quick google shows this is 5 long slots vs. the 4 shallow slots of the toolpro/worx

          never will be direct fit

There was a hedger & drill at our local

    • How much?

      • Eta Hedger is $55

Something tells me this will end up being a FERM waste of money, spend the bit extra and get one from a well-known manufacturer (Ryobi, Ozito, etc.).

yeah thats easy to say if you have the $$$

      https://www.rejectshop.com.au/p/angle-grinder-20v-125mm-2-0a…

i paid double that for a brand name skin only

for $60 and its a kit inc batt and charger

for most home diy it'll probably do given they all largely come from the same factory in china

      • Easy to say and not always true, just because it is cheap doesn't mean it is bad,

    • What exactly is telling you that? Some personal experience? Reviews? Or just because it is cheaper than the other brands?

      • It's an electric tool sold at The Reject Shop, and my experience with cheap tools.

Good for clearing some stormy branch debris in Perth

    • Just wait for this afternoon. The 90km/h winds should blow that into your neighbour's garden (or the next street).

      • Haha yeah I don't know where half the stuff came from

  • Was in the market for a recip saw, normal price for ozito brand (pxc) is $64 which is pretty reasonable (skin only though)

    • Check eBay and Kogan. I got one for about $45 delivered, including blades, case, 2 battery and charger. Plus it's brushless.

  • Evil. Dead.

  • Ozito 5 year warranty. Treat it like crap and get It replaced

  • +1

Great price compared to this one here

  • Does anyone who owns this, or the other tools from ferm, comment on it's quality /durability? Seems like it could break within 12 months if you're not careful.

Also could you use this, realistically, to cut small 5mm tree branches?

    • +1

I have a different brand recep saw. It will cut 5mm branches at the base of them where they join the main truck because the branch doesn't have the ability to move with the blade. If you are trying to cut a 5 mm branch that's not in a solid 'locked' position its won't really work. The blade will grab the branch on the same spot and shake the branch instead of cutting it.

      • I appreciate the info, thanks.

    • Use a mini chainsaw. They are way better. I have both and always use the chainsaw to prune.

    • 5mm, that's less than a pencil. Any saw would cut that .
Even Pruning shears (secateurs) would cut 5mm so easy as well.

    • 5mm? Just use secateurs.

  • About to order some blades to go with my Ozito. These aren't the cheapest but the brand looks okay:

    • Just order off eBay or Amazon. Save yourself the trouble of waiting 5 weeks from China

      • I'm ordering a heap of tool supplies from the same place on Ali and I'm in no hurry.

  • 2ah with a no name recip saw.

Probably has enough juice to cut your sandwich.

I think it's a gamble in all honesty, and a massive amount of red flags so buyer beware

    • No information about the warranty period on The Reject Shop website or FERM's own website, they have a warranty disclaimer but they're a US based company with no locations in Australia by the looks of it. I'd be curious to see if the warranty period is mentioned on the product box.
    • The 20v 2.0ah model doesn't even exist on their website nor is it on Google, the 710w (240v) version comes up whenever you search for the battery version
    • As per the above point, there are no reviews so you have no idea about the quality of the product, any end-user issues reported after usage etc
    • FERM Customer Service can be contacted by a US only number + their contact us form.
    • They have no repair centre information on their website
    • Basically you're relying on The Reject Shop to honour a replacement or refund, the validity is somewhat a grey-area under ACCC as it goes by the 'Expected' life of the product.

I'd say they're available via The Reject Shop for a reason, normally I don't see The Reject Shop products as rejects but in this case it applies heavily.

well i mean TBF these are shitty disposable tools

you're better off with whatever is at ozitos but to me if I spend $55 on a drill kit then I just expect it to last out warranty and then everything over that is gravy.

Reject shop have been around for decades and I expect them to just honour the warranty… which I no doubt they will.

These are 'rejects' in that they have like half a shipping container of this shit bought at pennies in the dollar and they just want them gone.

Come back next year and no one will know what a "Ferm" is but… what's your expectation in a $55 drill kit?

  • Ive got a black and decker recip that looks almost identical to this and I've used it a number of times for what id call are medium branches (mango tree mainly) and it works well

    • The main issue with 'looks' can be deceiving but simply take it back if there are issues.
