I believe the bikes are assembled in Germany. None of the component is made there. May be worth changing the title.
Done
I can buy a second hand vespa for that price
But not the fuel it runs on
Even if your $8 a week Vespa fuel price tag has increased to $20, that’s still affordable - it’s gas guzzlers that aren’t. Market forces at work!
Vespa needs fuel rego insurance maintenance and a drivers licence.
+ can't ride it on cycle paths.
+ can't pick it up and carry it in a pinch.
+ can't get some exercise peddling.
E-bikes have their place
I personally agree for the able bodied you should just get a conventional bike if saving money is your money goal tho.
Where is the Planet linked?
4 grand to do 25kmh? Lame.
There’s a bike store in Melbourne that will sell you a nice 3 grand bike that will do 60kmh.
Unfortunately 25km/h is the legal limit but most can be improved upon. Saying that though, as a recent ebike owner, I can say they are a lot of fun to ride even within the legal limits.
Can you link this 3k bike please or tell us who it is
Vyron bikes. There you go Sam , free plug.
They may not necessarily appreciate you publishing them selling illegal e-bikes
I would 100% hack mine to max out the speed.
And be a menace for other cyclists and pedestrians alike?
Nothing stopping you riding faster, that's what the pedals are for.
If you are not specifically after a road bike and happy with a cross country bike that weighs a little more then there are e-bikes from other reputed brands with similar components for a lot less. For example you can get a Giant Roam E+ GTS 2022 (250W Yamaha motor + 400Whr battery ) for under $3k. The giant weighs about 6kg more, but you get a significantly bigger battery (400Whr vs 250Whr).
Are Germans particularly skilled at assembling bikes?
Most of the big brands "design" and get made in china, a few in Taiwan …. giant and merida have their own factories, e.g Cannondale don't , etc.
Not a big deal as they running gear is usually shimano or SRAM, you are paying for the frame geometry and what they can bundle from other component makers to a price point ……
comes with mud guards already, nice touch …..
