yeah just FYI for those that want anything from amazon UK it will take about 2 weeks to get here. even with prime delievery.

I ordered my WD Black 1tb nvme gen 4 and it only just came today. ordered it on the 13th of July on prime day.

So just make sure if you want this that you willing to wait the time it takes to get here.

That's a bummer… I ordered the exact same thing, I think (WD Black SN850 1Tb with heatsink) on Prime Day when it was on sale and it arrived arrived a week ago (29th), which was much quicker than the estimated date when I ordered.

The thing that did annoy me was that, presumably because it's a fairly small item in a soft padded envelope, they just crammed it into my mailbox. Apparently that is "leaving it in a safe place". Luckily I was working from home that day anyway so as soon as I got the notification it had been delivered I was able to go get it from the mailbox right away. If you're not likely to be home during the day and don't feel very good about the security of your mailbox, it's worth keeping that in mind.

Jesus, still trying to find $200 gen 3 2tb that don’t suck

I wish the Australian currency was stronger, to make imports (basically anything electrical) more affordable. I remember after the GFC when Australian dollars were worth more than American dollars. Now $100 US = $150 AU. :(

I currently have a 1TB drive but would like to migrate to a 2TB sometime in the future. A single game like GTA 5can consume 100 GB and I have heavily modified versions of Skyrim and the Fallouts that occupy a lot of space.

      • well if the world finally dumps the USD as the reserve currency we might get better rates. This may happen sooner rather later.

But yes I remember when the Australia dollar was equal and even at one stage it was worth more than the USD.

Why do you have to pay delivery? The seller is Amazon UK so shouldn't it be prime?

Not intending to purchase but just seems odd.

    • +3

Not like Amazon US, Amazon UK charges for delivery for some items even you are prime member

      • you know whats funny I ordered something from Amazon US, a day after the Amazon UK item and it arrived 2 days ago lol and the amazon UK one only just arrived.

so it appears Amazon US is quicker to deliever items on prime.

    • I believe it's to even out for the price.

They'll likely have the same item being sold for about $325 with free postage if that makes sense.

I've ordered from Amazon UK a few times and it had always been free postage on my tech items that cost me a similar price.

    jl434 is just being modest.

The previous deal of the SN850 was only $10 cheaper and that deal expired a few hours after it was posted.

This is definitely a deal worth jumping onto if you're looking for a boot/app drive.

The previous deal was $30 cheaper and had a heatsink, I had it in my cart but had second thoughts eventually missed out.

Some deals have 200 pluses over a $2 saving.

This deal is still decent value but prefer the one with the heatsink.

$30 cheaper, which deal was that? I certainly wasn't aware of it.

Here's the one's that I was referring to:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/712622 (two weeks ago, no heatsink)

Here's another that was two weeks ago, with a heatsink, but, slightly more expensive:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/714522 (last week)

Not sure why it got updated to price error. From the comments, people had it shipped and no complaints of cancellation. It was available for at least 5-6 hrs.

Another person below has noted they bought it for $290 as well. Anyways that was an outrageous deal and I regret not buying it. Waiting for a similar or cheaper price to that one now.

          • @linkii: "It was available for at least 5-6hrs."
Are you sure about that? The thread was made at "12/07/2022 - 19:22"

The third user who posted said at 19:28:
Error, please try again when adding to cart

            Fifth user @19:30:
back to original price RIP just when i was checking out

Usually dispatched within 4 to 6 weeks.

  • EDIT: The deal is on the side. I thought it went away because the page changed.

  • nice. bought the Evo plus gen 3 for $600 a couple of years ago.

  • I bought this on prime day for $290 and then kind of regretted, it's overkill for my needs

    • +1

For $290 how could you regret it? Even if you bought one that was gen 3 and less than half the speed, you still would have paid relatively the same price.

      • Haha yeah true, but I guess I mean I should have gotten the sn770 instead which was like closer to $200

  • +1

the best prices were on prime day. I got a 1tb one of these gen 4 NVME WD black for 149 delievered it was cheaper than any place in Australia nothing comes close.

  • How about warranty? Is it claimable in Australia?

Thinking you will be covered, nothing to say about Grey imports on the warranty page

      • Thank you! I am still bit concerned about it. because by reading reviews on the page, I found an Austria buyer complaining about faulty after 2 month.

    • Not according to posts online but you can probably deal with Amazon, just take longer than WD Australia

  • Anyone has link to a suitable heat sink for this SSD?

  • Can this be used with Xbox series x?

    • Not really as an expansion storage through the 3rd party adapter hack. It's too fast and not whitelisted by Microsoft. You need a special version of SN530 I think.

You can use it through external USB enclosure, but for some reason, Microsoft elected to stick with USB 3.0/3.1/3,2 gen 1, rather than gen 2.

  • I want to get this with included heatsink. Trying to find a good heatsink as additional separate purchase ends up being costly

    • If you want branded heatsink, then yes, there is generally no good deal. If you get an el cheapo one, should be ~$10 (assuming you don't want to go super cheap $5-$6 range).

For PS5, the heatsink, honestly, is mainly to numb our brain. On PS5, most of the time we will be doing lots of reads on the SSD so heat shouldn't be an issue. We are not going to be copying games from the internal SSD to the external SSD all the time.

      • I guess it will be for the ps5 games. Cause the ps4 can run off my external 5tb i waa using on my ps4

  • This has dropped again slightly to $304.80 which I think is an all-time Amazon low.

  • There's now 2 left at $297.44
