Can't charge through that usb-C right?

    • +1

Mine can, but it is an iffy problem to many after a bit search.

    • +4

They can but need a proper 65w or more adapter for usbc

The t480 and up can slow charge from lower watt adapters, my pixel phone charger works on my t490s but will only slow charge my t470s when it's turned off

  • +5

Got my t470s from last deal , been solid !!
Super amazing customer service is the key here.

    • +3

why thank you! we try and will continue to

      • Feel like these are better value for money than the Dell OptiPlex or HP Mini. You can use Velcro/Double-sided tape and stick them behind a TV and have a decent HTPC.

Sucks there's no option for a decent dGPU these days, and even if you had one, no option to run it on these older devices. For Couch Gaming, you're better off going away from PC, Linux, and Android, instead get a console like PS5.

        • +1

I disagree; streaming works well if you have a decent network.

I have a very old Intel NUC with i3 as HTPC, and it can stream FHD games using Steam without any issues. Juicier Android boxes like nVidia Shield should be able to stream even 4k stuff as well.

          • @gorgrond: I guess if you have FTTP maybe, it's still a bit finicky with quality drops and latency. I find Cloud Gaming more of a solution for portable/outdoors problem (need 5G though).

Streaming games between rooms, doesn't have the problems of the above, but it's a very niche situation.

  • No 4G LTE?

    • Would be mighty tempting if it came with one.

    • ur phone has a hotspot?

      • +2

No but my wife has one

        • +2

If you buy a phone with hotspot you can share wifi phones internet connection.

a wifes hotspot is not the same, and probably not be advisable to share.

    • Updated , they all do!

How is this Windows 11 if the Intel i7-6600U is not a compatible CPU? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/min…

I believe TPM 2.0 is on the Intel 8th gen or newer.

    • +1

Not sure why they will put Windows 11 onto it with rufus WIN11 USB?

      • +4

After googling properly, you can install Windows 11 on an Intel 6th gen CPU, what you cannot do is upgrade from Windows 10.

        • you can install Windows 11 on an Intel 6th gen CPU, what you cannot do is upgrade from Windows 10

You can use the media creation tools WIN11? Without a hack?

          • @superforever: Yes you can. You have to do a few command line steps during the install. I've done it on 3rd Gen GPU Intel as well without a hitch.

            https://pureinfotech.com/install-windows-11-unsupported-pc/

            • @amaslam: I knew that is why I asked "Without a hack?"

It is still possible to upgrade with a hack , if you still have the first Win11 created USB disc.

              • @superforever: This article says yes, no hack required, for 6th and 7th gen Intel and 1st Gen Ryzen.

                https://www.hardwaretimes.com/windows-11-will-work-on-1st-ge…

The problem is Windows 11 will state that the CPU is not supported and will possibly not support it nor ensure its stability, from the Verge:

Microsoft reached out to tell us about one potentially gigantic catch it didn’t mention during our briefing: systems that are upgraded this way may not be entitled to get Windows Updates, even security ones. Microsoft confirmed this during an October 2021 briefing.

                https://www.theverge.com/22644194/microsoft-windows-11-minim…

                • +1

@gelilloabad: Thanks, in that case no need to do a few command line steps.

EDIT: Just tried on 6xxx Intel NUC didn't work without a hack

              • @superforever: That's not a hack

                • @Pootie Tang: Have to do a few command lines and not a hack? The installation program told you your machine was not supported and won't install it.

              • @superforever: It's not really a hack. The steps basically skip some checks during the install. However it still installs Windows and all it's features. Windows Update works normally and you don't install or use apps any differently than on a 'supported' CPU.

            • @amaslam: Is the "hack" only to disable the secure boot/uefi? That's how I would do a clean install from USB on surface 3/4.
When installing w11 on unsupported device, can you still get the windows updates?
Is W11 worth the trouble upgrading a non supported device?

              • +1

                @ShouldIBuyIt:

can you still get the windows updates?

                Yes no problem so far.

              • @ShouldIBuyIt: It skips checks for SecureBoot, TPM and CPU but UEFI is still used as it has been in previous versions of Windows. Note older systems do have Secure Boot, TPM and UEFI as it has existed far longer than Windows 11 has.

You still get Windows Updates working as normal, but one day MS could 'break' that for 'unsupported' CPUs as don't have to support those CPUs.

  • +2

FYI = This model has two batteries. The T480s has one so I guess it makes you wonder why they changed it.
Personally I like things to be less complicated if they don't have to be.

    • +4

Used one for work. You could hot swap the removable battery when it got flat without shutting down thanks to the secondary internal. Useful for some people but probably wasn't worth the additional build cost for most.

  • So RAM cannot be upgraded?

    • +2

It can yeah, but for this model we arn't offering it, as it'll be a single 8GB instead bringing the total too 12GB (1x4 is soldered)

  • Any free ram slots?

    • +1

it will be 2x4gb so no. 4gb is soldered onto the board

      • +1

Thx. So the other 4 gb can be swapped for more? What’s the max it can handle?

        • +4

yeah it can, max is 16gb

          • +1

            @FuseTechAu: Wouldn't it be 12gb or 20gb ie use an 8gb or 16gb stick?

            • +1

@knk: My T470S came with 20gb not sure if it has a different mobo

            • +5

@knk: I think they meant the 4gb can be swapped for 16gb max. So max RAM total would be 20gb on this laptop.

      • +1

So is it 2x4=8gb or 4+8=12gb like you commented above?

Also, does it have a Smart Card reader?

  • Is this touch screen?

    • +1

      No unfortunelty not

  • +5

wasnt the t470s (6300u variant) like $270 last week? At this price might as well look into the 8th gen cpus for a bit more
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/713940

    • This is an i7 version, the one you've mentioned is on i5 tho

      • +5

        Performance is near identical…

        • +4

the point is the hardware isn't identical, and this is better even if only by 4-8%.

  • +1

    1080p screen, 14' slim

You guys should know feet from inches by now :-)

    • +1

or ultimately switch to ~36 cm after Metrication started 1790s ;)
I use the shortcuts ' for min & " for seconds (what is 14" then?)

  • +1

Eh typo , but yes definetly not feet

    • +6

Don't use feet - the screen will brake under the feet

  • HP G2 mini/Dell micro deal still in the works, rep?

    • havn't heard back, apperntly still a mess of logistics, getting some optiplex 7040 micros however, i5 7th gens !

      • Hey 7040s are still good, as long as the price is right! ;)

        • +1

Confirmed a nice batch of 7040s i5s we want too offload , so the price should be under $200!

          • @FuseTechAu: Always eagerly waiting hahaha ;)

          • @FuseTechAu: same ones that are listed as sold out for $350 or is there another cheaper batch coming?

might be interested at the $200 mark, sort of looking for something to modify for a cheap HTC or media serv

  • Any T480's coming?

    • +3

      They'll be up tomorrow!

      • +2

        Any update on these?

      • +1

        Update?

      • No update.

    • +1

      ***UPDATE 30/07

WHAT is up everyone, back at it on a saturday, managed to confirm specs on the T480s, they're in limited stock at the moment but are all touch screen!
on the higher end of price but stack with specs. All A-grade
      https://fusetechau.com.au/products/lenovo-thinkpad-t480s-14-…

  • How does the cosmetic condition stand for these? I mean do they look too old or beaten up?

    • +1

      "Grade A

Good cosmetic condition: the item has minimal wear, which is free from any dents, cracks or damages, but which may have few light scuffs, scratches or marks on laptop external surfaces (i.e. cover/ lid, keyboards and other areas of its design)
Units may have light key marks on the screen which is only noticeable when the machine is off.
Screen display has no dead pixels or white spots."

That said I got a T480 in another deal and it looks brand new with zero imperfections or signs of use, but I'm sure it varies as some have been used more than others.

  • How is the condition of Lenovo IDEAPAD S130? Can install Chrome OS?

    • I am also curious about that. Is the screen IPS? Can it be charged via USB-C?

      • They can charge via usbc, but need 65w plus

    • Grade A, and yeah im pretty sure you can! Will come with windows 10 installed

      • +1

Is the SSD user up-gradable? It's a 2.5" SSD right?

    • Can install Chrome OS?

Chrome OS Flex should be fine but not sure if all devices will work, like webcam , bluetooth, etc.

  • Any T480’s i5 or i7 deals coming? Let me know.

  • Crazy prices on computers nowadays. Still rocking x250 from years back

  • Express delivery an option?
Would like to grab one for my nephew before I fly out on Wednesday

  • Any laptops with a touchscreen?

  • +4

Not a bad price but a few deals recently on t480s and t490s with 8th gen i5 for only $50-60 more

    • Could we get the sources to them?

  • Hey FuseTech, how much would this be without the SSD? Asking as I have a few spares lying around. Cheers

    • Hi! we arn't going to sell them without ssd sorry!

  • Is it possible to pickup on Tuesday the 2nd of August ?

  • thought it was an amd 6600u for a second xD

  • +9

IMHO this is not very good value given the few i5-8350U based notebook deals we had recently for around the same price. E.g.:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/715137
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/714041
Despite being an i7 the 6600U is a dual core CPU therefore has a considerably lower CPU performance score than a quad core i5-8350U, and as noted above 6th gen CPUs aren't officially supported in Windows 11.

If you are on the market for a sub $400 used notebook, wait for another i5-8350U notebook deal.

    • +1

This exactly, there will be a lot more 8th gen deals as these machines are nearing the end of warranty and businesses will be replacing them

      • +1

Yes, Intel 8th gen notebooks are starting to come out of 3 year leases (including my own work notebook) there will be a lot more hitting the used market soon.

    • Yeah they are all great deals! they'll be variations in screen size, brand preference and price. But honeslty the hyper competitive market now is only better for you guys! We'll keep forcing those guys too compete with us, and drive prices down.

      • 1 hour 17 min ago
what is your best deal for$800? ty

      • what is your best deal for$800? ty

    • this is a 14 inch screen and IPS / 1080p

a couple of those other laptops are 12 inch screens with less than 1080p

its a little give and take depending on what features are important in regards to buying these ex-fleet laptops

i think when a couple of the newer models finally come out of fleet lease arrangments they'll probably be $100-$200 more than what this is but for some people that enough of a bonus to wait for them

  • DDR3 or DDR4?

  • Any suggestion/reviews for "LENOVO IDEAPAD S130 BLACK | CELERON N400 | 4GB | 64GB"? Need for kiddo for basic school use and may be some Minecraft play.

    • +1

No it only has 4GB RAM and a tiny 64GB Hard drive. After OS is installed, doesn't leave a lot of room for Programs or Files. not to mention an low end Celeron processor.
      I'd recommend a minimum of 8GB RAM, an i5 Processor & 128GB HDD (but prefer 256GB).
