7 inch is probably the right size to hold in a hand with ease

      Sure is buddy

      • Guess size does matter

        • -1

but sometimes quality is better than the size….

      • I always assumed you were a bloke.

Got it for $198.41. Already played with it a bit. So far looks great. And the size is just right.
I think it's an excellent deal. Really good brand name tablet with Australian manufacturer's warranty for about the same price as Chinese tablets.

  • May be it's a stupid question. I want to buy micro hdmi to hdmi cable. Are all of them the same or you need a special one for this tablet? It's just on e-bay the sellers specify hdmi cables for certain brands of tablets. And this made me confused.

    • +1

      All the same.

      • thank you

  • question - would you buy this over a Kindle Fire or a Backberry Playbook? both available for around $200.

    • Kindle Fire does not carry australian warranty and OS for Playbook is almost dead.

  • so how is everyone finding the battery life?
im not really sure how it was when i tested it out at office works.. but i was testing out my uni lectures and it felt a little sluggish? weird :/ like pinch to zoom lagged . wonder why :/

    • +3

Unlike Samsung tablets, Toshiba did not bother tweaking the browser to utilise the GPU in the tablet. As a result, when using the browser app provided in the tablet, the performance (especially pinch and zoom) is really sluggish. Even a Samsung P1000T Galaxy Tab provides a much smoother Web browsing experience.

Testing Acer Iconia A500 (running ICS), the experience is better, but to my suprise, in terms of pinch and zoom on the default browser (A500/ICS), it is still no where near the old Samsung P1000T. However, pinch and zoom on Google Map is fine. It is most likely a browser / software issue. Perhaps try a different browser.

  • can i anyone attest to this tab's ability to function as a e-reader? i'm thinking of getting a kindle..but for another 100 i could get this, but i do realise the drawback of not having e-ink.

is this a major impediment? i would only be reading on the train..so 40 minutes at most in one sitting.

    cheers

The only tablet I'd want to be reading on is one with a HDPI/Retina screen.

      • +1

Well this Toshiba has the 2nd best pixel density in the tablet and notebook world. 216 ppi is outstanding. Only the recently released ipad 3 betters it.

      I bought a Kindle 4 from WOW a few days ago - $97 & 170g.
I just bought this little guy as well & considerably heavier ~400g.

For reading i wouldn't hesitate using the Kindle - backlit screens & the human eye will never be close friends.

      • thanks..yeah i have used kindles b4..but thought i could get away with this for limited reading

  • For those who have bought this tablet, what type of box did it come in?
Mine came in a brown unlabelled box. Looks as if they've just sold me a returned tablet stuffed in some generic cardboard box.

    • Is it sealed by Toshiba sticker? If so it is new. I bought my laptop also came with this cardboard box.

    • Just bought one OW $200.50

Yes, small flat box which says very little ("Touchscreen Tablet" blah blah), but on the side has sticker that says "Toshiba AT1S0 Part No. blah Serial No. blah".

    • It came with a normal, sealed laptop style box with model number on side. What on earth were you expecting?

  • Just bought this Toshiba tablet for my 5yo daughter from Officeworks under their lowest price guarantee for $198.55 ($199 + $10 - 5%). It's a great little tablet and the size and weight is perfect for my daughters little hands! Thanks to the Op and Ozbargain :)

PS. for the poster above, mine came in a small brown cardboard box which was sealed with a Toshiba sticker sealing the opening. Everything inside was in plastic bags and the actual tablet was in a polystyrene casing.

    Battery info for those interested:

Manual that comes with it says 14.5Wh (14500 mWh), 1 cell.
Charging time: power on ~3.5 hours; power off ~3 hours.
Battery life: 4.5 ~ 40 hours (in use); ~5 days (sleep mode).

  • Anyone know if the USB port is OTG?

  • Got one from OW for $189.05, thanks OP.

  • How is the brightness of the screen? I have the Acer A501 and sometimes use it in the car for topographic maps. The Acer's brightness isn't quite enough at full brightness when using it in the car.

  • Strange thing: I installed Flash Player but it doesn't work. Video from web doesn't play. You tube works though.
    Does anyone know what's wrong?

    • +2

All fixed after restart of the tablet.

3 Cheers to the Ozbargainers. Bought one yesterday early on Saturday after being the first to bargain in my local OW.
Back there 2 hours later for a second. All have been OZBARGAINED. Thanks to shoppingexpress.com, save me neck as wife wants one for the in law as well - No driving around and no need to bargain. Also, feel great to support the .com that support us! I know, sorry if it does not fully comply with Tight AR$e Spirit - Still Call OZbargain Home!!

    • Tite a rse alright for not supporting the OP

  • +2

Officeworks (two stores) did this for $189 for us - I think they forgot to add the freight!

  • Can someone please upload their $189 receipt?

  • Double post

  • This is the best tablet deal thus far IMHO. The Toshiba actually has the highest Pixel density in the android tablet world. 216ppi makes for a very crisp resolution.

  • +1 for the OP.

I went to OfficeWorks to check it out. Though the price for specs is somewhat good, the form factor of it is kinda meh. The lack of 3G is also a neg. Being the previous owner of a Samsung Galaxy TAB 7, I really enjoyed the size of a 7 inch for reading, and also the OS but the OS of this Toshiba leaves a lot to be desired IMO.

Overall, if you are tablet-less, this is a good price to get into the market. For a more experienced tablet user, I seriously consider dropping the $200 into a different toy.

    • What sort of toy would you suggest then?

Bugger, just tried to buy ine but they are out of stock!

    • Worse than that, they're selling it in another listing for more expensive. Tried to buy this and it came back out of stock.

      • Hi rav0,

Are you referring to this? http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/open-box-sale-toshiba-…
If so, you probably got confused. This is an opened box product listing. The listing posted on ozbargain is a Brand new product listing with bargain price.

        • +1

Any good deals coming up for a 7" or 7.7" Samsung tablet? Why is the opened box at a higher price than a brand new in a sealed box? I would sell them at a lower price to clear them out ASAP before the 7" IPads are out.

        • Hi Mate,

We do not have many of the opened box in stock, and the price on ozbargain is not a normal price, as reflected by response. More tablet deals should follow in 1 to 2 weeks time, but not confirmed which model yet.

        • Thanks. Are you going to post them on ozbargain too? Will keep an eye on your website as well from now on. I would still clear those opened box at a lower price to cash in now if I were you given most of the people now dont expect to pay more than $199 for the 7" toshiba tablet unless you are marketing those know nothing about tablets.

        • +1

Sure. If during that time, I still have post available, it will be up here. Worse case scenario: you guys may still able to find out through our facebook announcement or newsletter and share it here.

  • Has anyone manage to root the device yet?

    • Mine is now rooted and ready to roll !!

      • May I ask what you used to root it? The one I found (specifically for the au version) won't work until you get a "good GPS lock", which is happening so far…

        • is that the one on thrive forum? thats the one I used. Left mine in the backyard for 15min and went to do something else, got gps lock when I got back.

my tip is to disable location by wifi in settings, now when you open map, you shouldnt able to see the blue arrow on the map that shows where you are, and there should be a circle ring on the bottom right that says searching for gps when you tap it. leave it outside for a bit, you'll know you got locl when there is a 2nd solid circle inside the first one. Your location will also be pinpointed on the map by the arrow. Then just follow the instruction OP give

        • Thanks for the info.

Found a free app called "GpsFix" that keeps the GPS receiver active until it gets a location. Took the tablet for a drive while that was running and when I got back it was ready to go.

  • My plug wouldnt quite fit into the port ! How else do you do it ?

    • Get a bigger USB cable.

  • Now anybody know a good place to buy some accessories?, maybe a Dock? or a screen protector to suit? would prefer the genuine toshiba ones.

  • I got a usb keyboard today but can't get it working. Anyone know why and how i can fix this problem?

It has the special adaptor port but still no luck.

    • Just established that it is the USB port that can't be read. Even I if i put a usb flash drive in and it still won't work. The keyboard works on other devices.

      Any help would be great.
