Picked it up here the other day rather than waiting from Amazon. Having used Netgear Orbi before I've found Deco to be soooo much easier to setup and seems very stable.

Plus you can easily add other Deco models to the network.

Wesfarmer corps beating each other’s prices? Good one ;)

  • -6

    Bunnings won't price beat.

Went it store and didn't price beat because they don't price beat items on clearance at officeworks.

Apparently, "Priced to Clear" is clearance items.

    • +5

I think OPs primary deal here is Officeworks which is a great price. The Bunnings deal feels more like a 'try your luck' if you like suggestion. A neg from you seems quite harsh for a great deal.Just my opinion though.

      • +1

I disagree. Ops original deal was the price beat. It got nuked by mods because under the guidelines you have to post the original retailer. If op listed the $199 officeworks as the deal with no reference to the price beat in the title and only made a comment in the description of “try your luck” with Bunnings then I’d 100% agree with you.

        • +3

It is at a price point that nearly got 200 up votes only a few days ago.

With of without the price beat it is a popular item at a good price.

Deals get updates and edited routinely. Even if OP wanted to highlight the possible price beat, but went about it the incorrect way. Who cares, the post has been corrected. OP will know for next time..

The underlying price is still a very popular deal.

          • -2

@stickymoo: Last edit was 18 minutes before the neggers comment. Poor use of the neg vote.

        • Yeah, fair point. You pointed out some facts I wasn't aware of. Pretty sure you still wouldn't neg it though?

    • what bunnings was that?

    • +1

They did for me, I showed them amazon and officeworks

    • Showed them there conditions, a clearance is different to a liquidation. Sometimes you need to push the point, but it's there on the website.

      • +9

        Username checks out

    • Lol worked for me as well. Sounds like you got duped.

  • +1

I have the m9 plus version which I highly recommend.

    Easy setup and great range.

App is also available which has some basic information and help with setup.

  • -4

I have M5 and there are frequent connection dropouts with FTTP
Removed M5 and used Telstra Smart Gen 2 and the dropouts disappeared

    • +3

If running through your Telstra modern try changing the operation mode in the deco app to access point.

    • +3

It sounds like you haven’t configured the M5s correctly.

    • There shouldn't be. Was the M5 plugged into the nbn NTD or Telstra smart modem?

    • I have 3 on FTTP and working as perfect as it can be on Access point mode.

Highly guess a configuration issue mate , sadly!

    • I have M5 and there are frequent connection dropouts with FTTP

WiFi dropout or Internet dropout? If WiFi dropout, is it all wireless devices?

  • I’ve had these for a couple of years and they’ve been rock solid. I have 6. I’ve only just replaced them with Eeros during the Prime Day sale.

Can vouch for them as reliable (I just wanted faster wifi).

    • +3

Oh the decos not fast enough?

What are you on need faster?

    • +1

Have you noticed a performance bump? I do wonder how much benefit there is to Wifi 6 upgrades given most of us have 50 or 100 mbps plans.

      • +1

wifi 6 is not just about bandwidth but also better radio regardless if your client supports wifi6, i find my devices have better reception and down size from 3 node mesh to 2.

Got the price beat at Bunnings Belrose today 👍

    TP-Link AC1200 Deco E4 3x Pack $115 @ Amazon AU https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-AC1200-Whole-Wi-Fi-3-Pack/…
    Cheaper alternative.

    • E4 ports are limited to 100Mbps. M5 has Gigabit ports.

      • +2

So not really an issue if your internet is under 100Mbps or you don't do lots of large internal transfers over the wireless.

    • Is this any better than the Tenda MW3?

  • I love these. They also have an ethernet cable which the google ones dont have.

Setup was super easy. The app is actually not a piece of shit. I play FPS games with these in a 2 story brick townhouse and no issues. Recommend!

  • +2
    • Thanks for this! Successfully bought one from Officeworks Trinity Gardens (Adelaide) tonight and it looked like there were still a couple left.

  • +1

Clearance items are often excluded in the T&Cs in regard to price match/beat.

    • They only exclude stock liquidations not clearance items, sometimes you need to argue the point a little bit to get it through.

Our lowest prices policy means that if you find a competitor's lower price (including GST and delivery charges) on the same in-stock item that's available for same-day delivery or collection, we'll beat it by 10%. This excludes trade quotes, stock liquidations, commercial quantities and Marketplace products

      • Oh ok, that makes sense.

      • Clearance is a form of liquidation.

        • It's probably semantics, but I would say it's the other way around, that liquidation is a form of clearance.

  • +1

How are you mounting these? I wanted to ceiling mount but they don't have any decent brackets/mount points. May end up using command strip's if I can't find a better solution.

  • Does it create better "mesh" to plug Ethernet into these or are they an output for non wifi devices?

    • I use the ethernet ports for both these purposes. Works great.

    • yes mesh with ethernet back haul better than radio mesh

  • +1

I've got brick walls and a small 2 bedroom place, Is this my best option?
    Tried extenders, they aren't great

    • This'd certainly do the job, as would the Tenda MW3 or MW6 that are often at this price point or usually cheaper. You could try 2 rather than 3 nodes if you are wanting to save $, easy enough to add a 3rd if 2 still leaves dead spots.
Feels like overkill for a 2bdr, a decent router could be another option.

  • Low stock in Bunnings, so be quick..

  • Can I buy two sets of M5 and use the excess set as extenders?

    • Yes

  • I've had these for 3 years. Not super tech sav but easily set up. I have iinet fibre into the house. One Deco plugged into iinet Technicolor router as the base station, one in living area wifi, one upstairs WiFi. Turned WiFi off on iinet router. On WiFi on my Samsung s20 upload 40 Mbs and download from 150 to 250 Mbs. No issues. So highly recommended from me.

  • Would these work well with the Telstra Smart Modem V2… I'm trying to help my neighbour out with their wifi issues…

    • There are a few ways the Deco can be configured. Ask them if they use Telstra's landline phone and 4G failover when there is an nbn outage? Do they have FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC, FW?

      • Nah they just use mobile data I think when that happens.. they aren't technical so I'm setting it up for them anyway, I just wanted to know if compatible. Thanks

        • Deco is compatible. Is it FTTN, FTTC…..?

          • @Twix: They have this https://www.telstra.com.au/support/category/broadband/modems… but only getting 10mbps not far from the router on Wifi and they WFH

HFC : (You can connect to the nbn™ network via Hybrid Fibre Coaxial technology on an address check)

            • +3

@beebul: Deco can be plugged into the nbn NTD.

              1. Disconnect Telstra SM.
              2. Wait at least 30 minutes (don't skip this step or else the Deco won't connect).
              3. Plug in Deco to the nbn NTD.
              4. Download the Deco app to their mobile phones.
              5. During installation put the internet type as Dynamic IP for Telstra.
              • +3

@Twix: okay so stick the Telstra box in the wardrobe where it belongs? Do you need to put all the Telstra settings into the Deco?

And thanks for your help @Twix ! This is at least the second time you've been super helpful!

                • +3

@beebul: Yep put the Telstra SM in the wardrobe. Dynamic IP automatically configures Telstra's internet settings.

If they change their mind and want to use Telstra's landline phone and 4G failover use this setup.

                  1. Plug in Deco to the Telstra SM LAN port.
                  2. Download the Deco app to their mobile phones.
                  3. During installation configure the Deco as the Wi-Fi access point.
                  4. Login to the Telstra SM and switch off it's Wi-Fi signal.
                  • +1

                    @Twix: Perfect cheers 🍻

  • Bunnings at Stafford and Newstead QLD have no stock on display despite the website saying they do. I ended up grabbing the last one at Officeworks Windsor.

  • +2

Got it from officeworks, went back sold out but found a 2 pack of the M4 for $99 on clearance.
All connected up so easy. $298 for 5 access points that are easy to configure and work well? Bargain. Thanks OP.

  • Price beat at dural bunnings. Much better signal then stock modem.

  • These things are great. I have the 2 pack for a small 3br house. Highly recommended, rock solid performance.

  • Can anyone confirm if newer firmware allows splitting of the 2 bands (2.4 & 5)?

There was mention of it in the other thread, but haven't really found any other references.

Ive been waiting for a decent price on the Asus gear. From reading they were one of the only ones that allowed splitting. Everything else combines the 2 bands under the one SSID.

    • +1

Yep, you can just disable 2.4Ghz on Main SSID, then enable 2.4Ghz on the Guest network and choose an option not to isolate the Guest network.

The latest firmware lets you choose preferred Radio band per device, and its been great for me so far for my Xbox and PC. So haven't bother trying to separate 5 and 2.4.

    • +1

newer firmware allows splitting of the 2 bands (2.4 & 5)?

You can even set 2.4 or 5 for individual device.

  • Just got a set from bunnings, took them a while to figure it out but all good!

  • Anyone else have unstable internet with these Deco M5? Using Zoom/Teams, it's regularly locking up for me. Ethernet backhaul to each node. Switch back to old setup and no issues.

    • Sorry I can't help, have no issues here.

No ethernet, just the first node plugged into the NBN box and the rest via wifi. NBN fixed wireless in regional Victoria.

    • I had one Zoom, and had a few pauses, haven't had time to look into it, bit will be interested to know if you find what caused your issues.

  • Complete n00b when it comes to this stuff but my house has a couple of wifi dead spots. Was looking at range extenders but read on here better to go with a mesh setup. Would this be the way to go? Do they replace the router or run off it?
