There are other Avalon bus services. It's the only economical way to travel to/from Melbourne if you don't have a car or can't fill an entire taxi.

Sita Coaches operates the service between Avalon and Southern Cross Station. The cost is $36 return. The Avalon Airport Shuttle seems to go to Geelong & Bellarine.
On Jetstar site, the $39 Sydney fare seems to go right thru to November, so the travel date does not end in September?

FYI - I just booked tix to Melb during school hols (9-14 july) for $54 each way from Syd to Tullamarine.
Rang Jetstar and got them to price match with Tiger, and they beat them by 10%.
Probably worth paying a bit extra to fly to Tulla and avoid the hassle of flying to Avalon?
