It's 35cm in length, larger than the Motion+ which is 25cm. It's also currently cheaper than the Motion+ go figure.
Seems to be their biggest model in Australia. If maximum loudness is what you want regardless of portability this Bluetooth speaker is for you.
Edit: There is a Motion Boom Plus model overseas which is IP67 has 80watts and is bigger but with less battery life than this Motion Boom.

More than I would like to spend on a Bluetooth speaker but it's big and has a 10000mAh built-in battery for Up to 24 hours battery life playing music. Takes 4 hours to fully charge at 5v/2a.
In my opinion this seems to be better value than the large JBL Bluetooth speakers.

NO AUX input Bluetooth 5.0 only but it has a USB-C charging port. Going by the upvotes on the "mIcRoUsB" comment on my previous deal which were neck and neck with the positive deal votes USB-C seems to be important for many users here.

You can pair two together and it also has "PowerIQ technology" USB-A output, so it doubles as a powerbank to charge your phone/USB devices.

  • Nice! I got a JBL PartyBox 100 which I love but I’m still tempted to get this Motion Boom. A more portable option than the PartyBox I guess.

    • +2

The Motion Boom gets to 93.1 dB SPL.
The PartyBox 100 get's a lot louder according to Rtings. 104.7 dB SPL that's a lot louder.

      • Thank you for the specs. Saves me looking up reviews now.

  • Thanks for the post. I picked up the Soundcore Motion+ for $109.99 during Prime Day. Wondering whether this might be better for an extra $18.

Surprisingly the Max SPL is not as much of an increase as I would expect. Barely manages to be twice as loud. Motion Boom is probably tuned for deeper bass though, otherwise there would be complaints that it sounds the same as Motion+ and the only difference is the Motion Boom gets louder.

    • +3

Like blacksmithnpc said, the Boom is not hugely louder. Both are 30W output.

It depends on what you want to use it for, aside from music. I have two of the Motion+ speakers and think they are great. I chose the Motion+ over the Boom.

The Boom will do better bass, and has longer battery life, but has no 3.5mm input.

Critically (for me), the Motion+ has minimal Bluetooth input delay. This makes it great for use when using it for watching movies, gaming etc. Not really an issue for music use though. And the input delay on the Boom is

The Motion+ is pretty portable and compact. If that is not a factor for you, and you only use it for music, the Boom might be better.

And there are some cheap cases and carrying straps for it on Aliexpress. (Also for the Boom)

      I bought these two -

Thanks to you both! This is really helpful.

      • Good to hear from someone who has the Motion+.

"And the input delay on the Boom is ______"

What happened here? Rude word? or were you confirming what you were going to type and forgot to finish the sentence?

No problem by the way I get the gist of it. But if Motion+ and Boom both have BT5.0 they should be pretty equal no?

        • Yeah not sure what happened there. I presume I was confirming and then forgot to finish the

          … ;)

My understanding is the low input delay on the Motion+ is because it supports the aptX codec, whereas the Boom does not. The Motion+ still has lower input latency overall, even using the SBC codec, so something else is also going on.

Those Rtings.com measures the input latency on the Motion+ and the Boom. Only 42 ms for the Motion+ on Android, vs 223 ms for the Boom. Compared to 104 ms Motion+ vs 297ms Boom on iOS, which has no aptX support.

Anecdotally the Motion+ apparently sounds noticeably worse on on iOS, or another source that does not support aptX.

          • @Prong: "My understanding is the low input delay on the Motion+ is because it supports the aptX codec, whereas the Boom does not. The Motion+ still has lower input latency overall, even using the SBC codec, so something else is also going on."

I must have missed that spec and not looked at the latency information on Rtings. That's good to know the Motion+ supports aptX but the Boom doesn't.
Must be something funny happening in the circuitry maybe which is adding latency in the Boom.

            • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I presume it's just because it uses a different Bluetooth 5.0 controller, and the Motion+ one is better.

I was curious so pulled up some teardown videos. The Motion+ has a discrete Bluetooth module, whereas the Boom integrates it onto the board. Nothing is easily Googleable from what I can see of the chip identifiers on the vids, and my curiosity petered out before digging further!

              • @Prong: Nice work finding those. I love it when teardown videos show a detailed look at the inside.

I just presumed a bigger company like Anker would streamline their range by using common components, as you stated they even have the same output power at 30w which would mean they could have even shared more components. In this case I guess not.

Come on Anker give us sound motion + at $80 delivered again smh

    • Kind of unfair if it's just the kids isn't it?

Haha anyway maybe going against a comment that got 40+ upvotes was not such a good idea since your comment got hidden.

Anyway just for the record I don't have a majority of USB-C devices myself, so I am ok with any connector. I guess it means I get have a wider range of options so that's a plus.

  • Does anyone use this in their car or is that just a bad idea?

Love to see type C , I won't buy anything else micro usb
