Just bought one- $11.39 with discounts delivered

        • teach me how please.

What do most people use these for?

Thinking of getting one so I can’t start the kettle from my bed.

    • +1

Just for energy monitoring mostly. I have the cygnett one but if this has a better app I'd swap over

    • +4

It wouldn't really work with a normal electric kettle though, would it? An electric kettle switch turns off once the kettle boils.

If you want to start your kettle from your bed get a smart kettle instead. Something like this - https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-smarterhome-17l-smart-ket…

      • If it's in an off state, you can press the kettle on. When the power turns on it'll boil

        • +4

Most these days won't let you do that with no power, similar with toasters ive found

          • @brocky2006: Both mine work this way. It is sometimes a thermal cut out that stops it being able to be set on. If you have a digital one it may not work.

Turn on/off your small heater remotely
Like 10 mins before you go to your room from a walk, or 30 mins before you get up..

      Turn on/off outdoor lights

Schedule lights when you go away
So that people think you’re home

      • Yeah, turn antique lights into smart lights. "OK Google, turn antique lamp on".

Meross sell a HomeKit version of this ("Hey Siri, turn antique lamp on"), it doesn't have energy meter though.

Got one to monitor computer power draw, but its actually not that great. It gives you reading of power draw at point in time, and you have to refresh each time you want an update…

Also quite bulky as others have said

    • +2

My heated sheets. Turns off after 8 hours. Enough to keep me warm through my sleep.

    • combined with home assistant I use them for a number of things
      - automatically turns on the electric blank in the envening if its cold
      - notify when the dryer / washing machine is finished
      - monitor fridges/freezers power consumption
      - floor lamps

  • +4

These are pretty chunky can't have 2 side by side
    Is the energy monitoring accurate?

    • +1

      Yeah that’s true.
Getting it for monitoring dryer, washing machine consumption

  • +5

I use our 5 plugs to control our electric blankets on a schedule and also to switch on the water pump that is bailing out under my house when it rains at the moment. I’ve also used it for Christmas light scheduling.

  • The KP115 is OOS almost everywhere. Should I get this instead?

  • +6

These are so big, if you have plugged in then plugs next to it useless

    • True. Any hack for this? I tried some of the side extension plugs but this smart plug is just too thick to have anything alongside it.

  • Is this Homebridge compatible?

  • +4

these fit side by side, do energy monitoring, works with local-tuya

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-grid-connect-smart-plug-in…

  • +1

This one seems less chunky so another option for those who want to plug in side by side.

  • +2

For those wanting to use this for a kettle or heater, keep in mind the 1800W max rating, otherwise it will end up being single use :)

  • Thanks, picked some up

Why not $12 EKO from bigw?

  • I use these to program the pool pump, kids electric blankets, room heaters, fans etc. Adapter is a bit fat but I use wide powerboards everywhere so not an issue for me.

You'll be glad you bought one if you have ever left the house to find out the kids heater was still on. Just turn it off remotely via the Meross app.

Countdown timer program is useful if you like turning something on for a fix time only.

Power consumption statistics also show historic usage trends if you like that kind of stuff.

There's also a homekit version but costs about 20% more.

  • I'm waiting for the models with Apple HomeKit support to be at this price.

  • I want to get these but already have several Tapo ones, so that would mean having to use 2 different apps.

Do these ones have live energy consumption info? They look quite big though and seem like they'd take up 2 socket spaces. The Tapo ones aren't wide but they're tall, so they don't fit well in certain power boards.

  • I dun need energy monitoring. Any basic model available at good price?

  • +2

Had these, connected to homekit using home assistant and the local meross custom add on, they worked okay but a lot of effort to get the add on to work.. they were too big for me too, can’t plug in a socket next to them, so I changed them for the bunnings gridconnect (tuya based). Eko from bigw looks the same

Rather the bunnings ones, energy monitoring is the same and tuya local is easier to use. would pay the 4$ extra for the slim fit, plus similar tuya models can get to be this price too.

  • damn no homekit support.

    • Home Assistant can present these as/to Apple homekit.

  • Can this be connected to the Xioami temp/humidity sensor we have on here often to turn on a/c or humidity if it gets to a certain level?

  • I've been using these for over 3 years. They are too wide to use side by side on standard power outlets.

In my situation they were perfect because the dimensions allowed me to fit it in a lower clearance single outlet inside a cupboard that powers the under cupboard bench LED lights.

Most smart plugs on the market use an elongated design which would've required me to add a power board to make it work for my situation.
