Booking.com: 12% CashBack (Was 5%) @ Cashrewards

214

Cancelled a booking i already had booked with 5% CR, and rebooked with this - got tracked immediately.
I went from CR app to booking.com site and booked - it shows how much CR you are getting on the booking itself before you pay.

Refer to CR link for more T&C.

heard some reviews that they increase the price if cashback increased. Did you find the hotel price the same before and after?

    • yes but it was sort of a private owner listing, not a hotel per se. So the price was the same after i cancelled and it reappeared on booking.com to rebook (how did i know before cancelling? because they had another room (different type) listed on booking.com at the same resort and it was the same price as before even today).

I was just going to book via Booking.com. The place is advertised at 430 without CR and using CR's 12% cashback, the same option is 480. Yes, I would probably still be ahead by a bit but not worth it. This is Dr Jack. Sad to see Cashrewards using such practices specially with TA being part of it

Negging the deal to make people aware of it.

Try it with Shopback and you'll get the same result. How on earth can CR let alone TA change the prices on Booking.com? They can't. Booking.com themselves are doing it and when you go to checkout it'll actually say the estimated cashback for CR or SB because they (Booking.com) know it's come through the affiliate link.

    • can it be booking.com doing it? I don't think CR can jack prices of a third party site. Also it is perhaps the particular hotels knowing the CR increase of cashback jacking their hotel prices? Like eBay retailers do whenever there is a sale. It is definitely not a sidewide jack as mine wasn't affected.

100% Booking.com because it's impossible for CR to change Booking.com prices. Also 100% certain hotels as well. I stay at one every fortnight and Booking.com never jacks it so I get around $30 back each time that doesn't show on the work receipt I claim as an expense :)

It's not Cashrewards fault. Booking.com changes pricing based on referrer. They are not supposed to, and AFAIK Cashrewards doesn't like it when this happens.

Hotel booking sites do a lot of dodgy stuff. Sometimes you're cheaper off booking directly with a hotel.

One thing I came across recently: if you browse Agoda from a mobile device, you get much better deals compared to a desktop. Or just tell your desktop browser to emulate a mobile using the developers console.

      • I wonder if using the extension/app will get around it.

Agree. They up prices and then say you get money back. It’s bullsh*t

    • +3

Aren’t they just increasing the price by the commission they are being forced to pay CR or SB? They may as well stop wasting peoples time and exit the agreement, It’s just a scam otherwise

People always complain about the prices being increased based on the cashback. This is true for some accommodation, but definitely not all. There are real savings to be had here for the right accommodation.

  • +2

Yes some but not all accomdations is jacked but it's really annoying having to check prices firstly without cashback and then with cashback and do the calcs to see which one will be better off. Same thing happens with Agoda as well.

What you find is that a lot of the time if you book directly with the hotel/accomodation their advertised rate is already cheaper and if you ask sometimes they will give you an additional discount.

  • +2

I've noticed that booking directly with the hotel is often cheaper too

  • Having it tracked is one thing - getting cashback without having an ongoing battle with a string of emails is another thing. Even if you can swing a deal thats not jacked, its simply not worth the headache.

They mark up 15 - 20% and give you 12% cash back. What a freaking joke.

    • (how) is it legal?

    Direct: $505
    Before clicking through CR: $455
After clicking through CR: $436 (Getaway deal)
    Estimated cashback: $52

I call that a big win!

  • Price is higher after going through CR….

Just checked a Venice hotel with breakfast for 3 nights in September. $1295 normal. $1295 via CR & $155 cashback. No jack for me.

  • If you click on CR before the boosted cashback kicks in at midnight, but then complete the purchase after midnight, which cashback rate do you get?

    • +2

I would guess what matters is your click through time
