  • Just looking at this - well done OP.

  • +2

    Was $59.99 earlier this year.

    • Man, Heymix is just getting killed this Prime days

  • +7

Currently $10 more for a Belkin 108w - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/712029 if you need a multiport charger.

This is one of the bad Heymix models - 3.8/5. From the reviews, questionable quality, failure, DOA. The black model has similar ratings with many reports of the device being DOA or early failure.

i own this charger , works a treat, have a lightning cable on one the C ports and. C-C on the other ….some mini and micro usb on the A ports …..works great …… amazon reviews i take with a grain of salt and dig deeper like tear downs people have done, i’ve seen people give bad ratings to cast iron cookware because it rusts …..seriously, stanley wood working planes have mixed reviews …same planes different people and different uses.

      • Let's try going a bit deeper into Heymix and Heymix reviews:

For the majority of users they plug in devices and it charges. Given the simplicity of a charger, a low rating is an instant red flag.

There are cases where users could be at fault - faulty cables, devices, etc. You'd expect that issues that arise as a result of user fault would be common across other chargers with a similar frequency but that is not happening. The issues are only occurring on Heymix products.

When you expand that search to other Heymix products, you see similar patterns emerge with different types of failure, overheating, DOA, etc. Of even more concern, Ozbargain users also report issues with these devices while they rarely report issues with more reputable brands.

As far as I am aware, there are teardowns of Heymix products or reviews which measure the quality of the power output by the devices.

Better rated chargers or those from more reputable brands are often $10-$20 more which is worthwhile for safety, reduced risk of fire, not needing to deal with returns, etc. With this in mind, the value proposition for Heymix chargers isn't great.

I agree that performing some basic analysis of reviews is important (taking with a grain of salt) and have seen similar behaviours on other products such as users thinking mechanical watches require batteries. I think the analysis of Heymix has been done by multiple users here and the downvotes are warranted.

        • ihfree: "As far as I am aware, there are teardowns of Heymix products or reviews which measure the quality of the power output by the devices.",

measuring power output isn't a teardown where it has been taken apart where it has failed to see why, or a new one to see quality of components used …. I googled and couldn't find a tear down for a heymix …..

a teardown of a charger (not heymix) is below …..
          https://www.chargerlab.com/teardown-of-apple-20w-usb-c-power…

          • @garage sale: Slight correction there:

As far as I am aware, there are no teardowns of Heymix products or reviews which measure the quality of the power output by Heymix chargers.

Anyway, it doesn't change much. Even if there were teardowns or reviews, the user reviews are truly terrible for Heymix.

    • I have a Heymix similar model.. I've found that dual USBC charging is not as reliable as they claim. Using both the USB C (say one for the laptop) causes wonkiness with power delivery (for example not enough power to charge the laptop)

My partner uses it on her work laptop with a single USBC now. its lasted a year so far - so works, but not as advertised

Would not recommend Heymix based on Amazon and ozb reviews. Got the Belkin 108W and tested it today with great results.

  • Any recommendations for a high powered Gan charger? My laptop draws 230w max, so even the belkin above is no match

    • +3

      Is your laptop USB-C?
Current generation USB-PD maxes out at 100w.

      • +1

Yeh usb-c, its a Razer Blade 15 2022 model. Apparently 100w will only maintain battery under heavy load. Probably better than lugging around the huge power brick that comes with it though.
But I didnt know 100w was the max you could get :(

        • depending on GPU in the laptop and load ….. 100W might me used mainly by the screen, CPU, GPU, if under full load, etc leaving little for the battery …… I pressume the 230W brick doesn't use a USB-C connector but has it's own high power connector …. many laptops come with USB-C charging BUT also a higher power charge port, my Surface has USB-C and MS charge port, Macbook air now has USB-C and also magport (again) charging ….. if you will be doing extended gaming with the Razer there is a reason it has the 230W brick, if you need to do emergency use it has USB-C.

My dell from work used to have 60W USB-C charger (light and small) and also a 90W power brick with their round connector …. (big and heavy)

The most you're going to get from current spec USB PD is 100W. USB-PD 3.1 will have 240W. Some devices will be shipping with 135~140W chargers soon, but 240W generic chargers is still a while away. You'll probably need a device built for it.

      • and a 240W cable to go with it ……
