  • These have gotten so expensive - bought one in 2018 for $300!

Yeah, prices have gone up a lot in the past 4 years. I wonder if there was some kind of worldwide event or multiple worldwide events that would explain the rise in prices…

      • I dunno man, I’m still trying to put all the pieces together. Something must have happened!

      • +1

        It’s called covid WFH tax.

      • i bought mine at the start of covid wfh for about 350 and a few months later i noticed they went up above 500. i know the pieces are put together by hand so could have been due to that + lots of extra demand but they havent gone up in price from that this year surprisingly

"Grinding coffee with the Comandante C40 (MK3) Nitro Blade Grinder Burgundy is an experience as much as it is a process. The 100% Natural Oak Wood knob fits the hand perfectly."

What a load of marketing BS.

    • +3

Yea. I just want coffee screw the experience

    • +1

Paid $50 for my hand grinder.
If I wanted to spend that much I’d buy an electric one tbh

Top of the line hand grinders, just keep in mind some of the shady behaviour Comandante has been up to recently - if you care about that sort of thing.

Unfortunately I can't read the German. The bunch of random screenshots of people saying stuff don't mean much.

If coffeshops/distributors are importing goods that violate their patents, they absolutely need to defend them, otherwise they'll lose them (irc). Either way, it's their right to defend them. I'd want to defend my business from cheaper made in China clones too.

Without actually knowing why that random screenshot called them baseless suits, it's impossible to tell.

If they truly think they have a case, they'd be suing manufacturers and shutting them down at the source, not using intimidation tactics on smaller retailers. The IP trolls of the coffee world it would seem, and those are the lowest of the low. Like printer-IP-holder-trolls extorting small businesses for owning printers, banking on the fact that it'll be cheaper for them to cough up the 'fees' or whatever they're called, rather than pay legal fees to fight it. Disgusting. Allegedly.

          say no to bullies!

        • If the manufacturers aren't covered under EU patent laws, then no they can't file claims against them.

As far as I can tell, everyone is just basing their views on nameless forum posts.

Unless someone has actual evidence to the contrary?

Court cases should be a matter of public record. Why doesn't he link to them? He claims the cases are unfounded, with nothing to back it up. They just seem like big claims with no evidence.

I would note it wouldn't be the first company to use litigation as a tactic. But again, would like to see at least some evidence.

Thanks for this. I already own and use 1zpresso, but now Commandante is dead to me.

Thanks for alerting us to this. Definitely ruling out Comandante now

Got a Kingrinder K6 for around $100. Supposedly have similar burr geometry as taste profile as the Comandante C40.

    • how did u manage for 100 bucks, I have a J-max, which I quite like for espresso, but could be interested in a different burr set for filter

    • YES! about to ask about Kingrinder K6!
      How is the grinder?

  • How does these compare to a Hario or Porlex hand grinder which is also quite popular? (and much cheaper)

    • +2

      Significantly better.

    • I have a porlex tall ii and it's decent, but still produces an uncomfortable amount of coffee dust that clogs up the filter paper and really extends out the brew time.

I do want one of these, but am not sure how much of an improvement it will give.

      • Pretty big jump once you start using steel burrs, much better consistency. Look into a timemore c2, kingrinder and jx.

        • Do you get significantly less of that ultra fine "coffee dust/flour"?

1zpresso jx pro also on sale for $219. Excellent for espresso grind, among other grind levels.

    • Good price, excellent grinder. Getting great results paired with a cafelat robot. I don't buy coffee at cafes anymore it's just disappointing.

      • That's some serious equipment, do you roast your own beans?

        • No I haven't gone down that rabbithole… Yet haha. I would consider it to save even more money on beans.

      • Yep, great hand grinder. The gradations are very fine and the build quality is superb. I use it for Clever Dripper brews during the week and espressos on the weekend. Does both perfectly.

  • The price's not so good, I bought an MK4 on eBay from Coffeebeanery at $368. They upgraded the frame so beans won't be stuck.

  • What do you guys think about Soulhand for $170ish? Worth it?

    • +1

Look at Kingrinder K6 around that price, much much better grinder than Soulhand… Whatever Soulhand is selling, you can get from Alibaba I meant haha for cheap
