Glass Straws in my Pocket, what could go wrong…Sits down… crunch

  • +7

Tried one of these on holiday in Asia, they are great straws that don't go soggy.
But double-check the length before you buy. Cocktail length straws are next to useless. 19.7cm or 7.75 inches is ok.

    • +7

Less than 7.75 inches is useless? You tell me this NOW?

    • +1

States standard length - 7.75". Thanks for the tip. 🤭

    • +1

      Proof that size DOES matter.

one 9 yo makes a research paper on plastic straws - nek minit:

Yeah, environmentalists admitted after they were banned everywhere that it was just a gateway to get people talking about recycling and the real benefit would be negligible.

As per usual, it's a cost or impost on people who always dispose of responsibly in the first place.

Once you understand that 85% of plastic waste comes out of Asia, and that China alone produces more CO2 than the next 7 countries combined, then you realise what a scam this whole environmentalism 'industry' is.

Can't blame the Asian countries when Western countries outsource all their manufacturing overseas due to cheaper labour costs.

But in saying that a lot of used plastic wastes from Western countries go back to Asian countries to process.

I'd really love to hear how you think that makes any sense what-so-ever. So when a Asian person throws their plastic rubbish into the ocean, that is somehow someone else's fault? But if I were to do it that would then be my fault?

Feel free to explain that if you can, because it's sounding pretty crazy right now.

            • +2

              @1st-Amendment: It makes total sense.

China has high c02 due to lots of other countries outsourcing their manufacturing (i.e.) factories to China.

Western countries push a decent amount of their plastic waste to Asian countries to deal wit as it is cheaper to do so.

There was even an incident where Malaysia said no more to Australia plastic waste as an example.

Not sure how that is sounding crazy.

Because you said that they aren't to blame for their actions because of outsourcing. So somehow their actions are someone else's fault?

Let's test your hypothesis. When I outsource the mowing of my lawns, the lawn mower man is free from blame when he throws his rubbish on the ground because he's outsourced labour? How exactly do you think personal responsibility works?

                • @1st-Amendment: I really have no idea what you’re on about .

My main point was that you can’t blame Asian countries alone for waste to the environment .

It’s not like European / Western countries don’t pollute or contribute to waste either .

                  Anyways have a nice day.

No-one said anything about ALL the blame, it's called context. If one small group of nations is creating 85% of the problem then that needs to be recognised if you are trying to solve the problem. How do you think freeing them from all responsibility ("Can't blame the Asian countries") will solve anything?

          • @SpeedRunnerLink: Yes, you can.

It's not too much to expect that waste isn't taken from a rubbish bin and thrown directly into a river

      • +1

the real benefit would be negligible

Still better that we have less instances of this happening.
