Was just about to post, about the cheapest I’ve seen for any Presage Automatics.

    • +1

For sure, any Presage for sub $200 is an instacop

      • +1

If the dial hadn't been ruined, maybe

  • Any reason why I can't find this on the Seiko website?

  • Great deal and good looking automatic watch!

what did the code do? where did it come from lol

    • Code was emailed to subscribers/previous customers yesterday arvo, but for some reason didn’t work until this morning.

      • Nice, guess it was specifically for this watch?

        • +1

Yep, only advertised for this watch but I’ve tried it on a few other presages on the off chance they forgot to limit it, no dice.

  • +1

refreshing in case it comes back. lol

  • +3

Thanks, managed to get one. I now have 5 watches that I don't wear.

  • Would it be too much to ask for Sapphire at this price range?

    • +4

      yes

    • +1

You can get sapphire at this price range on the no-brand ones on Aliexpress like Escapement Time, but no way from Seiko in the current year.

    • Thanks guys for the comments.

Btw I just wonder what would be a real bargain (at least equivalent to this one) for a good automatic and sapphire watch from a well known brand? I’m not in a hurry, but I guess it’d be good to have some knowledge so that one can quickly grab a bargain the next time something popping up here.

      • +2

If you want good specs and not fussed on brands, opt for Aliexpress watches, off the top of my head Steeldives are decent (~$110 for auto, sapphire with ceramic bezel insert), use the search function.
I think I’ve seen Citizen automatic with Sapphire for sub $300, and plenty of Eco-drive offerings for less, again use the search.
Bargains like this post are rare enough, and it’s nigh impossible to get Seiko/Tissot autos with Sapphire sub $200.
Orient autos with sapphire (eg, Kamasu) can be had for sub $300 if you look hard enough.

TL;DR: Budget more if you want brands, autos and sapphire. Aliexpress watches are good options too if you don’t care about brands.

        • Thanks for the detailed answer. I’m more interested in the brands though (not sure if I need to hand my OzBargain badge back?)

So am I right to assume that $300 would be a good deal for a watch similar to the Seiko Presage but with Sapphire? In other words, an extra $100 for upgrading to sapphire is reasonable?

          • +1

@GreenRomeo: Maybe not with the current state of things, Seiko have really gone upmarket, $300 would have gotten you a SARB033 with sapphire but only on sale and that was like 4 years ago maybe? In today's economy, Seiko are simply not going to beat the value the discontinued models offer since they have basically replaced them with the SZSBs which have 4R35's and hardlex for the same price.

Maybe you can look at Citizen, they have sapphire at this pricepoint: https://starbuy.com.au/citizen-automatic-nj2180-11a/

          • @GreenRomeo:

I’m more interested in the brands though (not sure if I need to hand my OzBargain badge back?)

Nothing wrong with that. Objectively speaking my Steeldive has better specs, build and alignments (!) on most of my more expensive Seikos, I still find myself wearing and buying more Seikos. It’s a mental thing.

So am I right to assume that $300 would be a good deal for a watch similar to the Seiko Presage but with Sapphire?

            A good deal? Yes
An attainable deal? Unlikely in my opinion
So yes, if you see something like that (and think it looks good on your wrist), I’d nab it up in an instant.

In other words, an extra $100 for upgrading to sapphire is reasonable?

An extra $100 on top of $300 for Seiko Presage with sapphire? Not that I’ve seen tbh, I’ve seen Seiko auto divers/prospex for around that mark (~$400-450) that comes with Sapphire, but not Auto Presages.
            For what it’s worth:
            - Although I prefer sapphire, I’ve yet to scratch any of my Hardlex crystals.
            - if you have the tools and skills, you can replace the stock crystal with after market sapphire (or pay someone to). This is something I haven’t dabbled in, and I imagine it’d end up costing you a fair bit anyway, considering the aftermarket sapphire for the basic Presages runs for about $US100 before shipping.

            • @zonra: Thanks for your detailed answer again. I’m not too keen on replacing the glass myself, so will be watching out for a good automatic watch with sapphire from a reputable brand at ~$300 which hopefully will come here sooner rather than later.

              • @GreenRomeo: Not sure if you’re still looking but here’s a good contender.
Citizen automatic, sapphire and titanium for $225

                • @zonra: Thanks zonra. Have done a ton of research but still haven’t decided yet. Will definitely check this one out!

          • @GreenRomeo: You can get watch repairers to replace the glass with a sapphire lens. i have done it on 2 cheaper watches.

Orient has sapphire on some of their autos that can be found in this price range.

Here are a couple examples of great bargains that are no longer in stock

        https://dutyfreeislandshop.com/orient-ra-ac0k02e10b-ra-ac0k0…

Creation watches has a good range of Orient. GST will be added to the displayed prices but can often be offset with a coupon discount. I have noticed that Creation gets the specs wrong sometimes so best to double check the model via other sites to ensure its sapphire.

Here are a few with sapphire.

$201 https://www.creationwatches.com/products/orient-watches-252/… (42mm maybe too big for this style. Its available in bracelet versions and a range of colours)

        $244 Sun and moon (day/night) complication https://www.creationwatches.com/products/orient-sun-moon-pha…

$265 open heart https://www.creationwatches.com/products/orient-watches-252/… (this one is a nice size at 38.5mm

        $139 Ladies Watch https://www.creationwatches.com/products/orient-watches-252/…

        • Thanks nifty1! I’ll check them out.

          • +1

@GreenRomeo: PM me also GreenRomeo if you are interested in a lesser known swiss brand dress watch. SW200 movement. Silver dial. 1 only available at the moment - around $300 from reputable Australian Jeweller

      • Thank you! I’ll keep an eye on it.

        • +1

No worries, I'm like you. For the price I want Saphire. Titanium was a nice bonus. The watch has presence but isn't overbearing. I think it punches.

I appreciate it as an EDC that I don't have to worry about.

The only tiny (have to try hard to see) scratch it has is from a well timed Collison with a Diamond ring.
Otherwise, similar watches with hardlex/ mineral would be covered in scratches by now.

          • @stickymoo: Cheers. Btw, do you know what makes this Seiko Presage one more special and more expensive while the Citizen one has Titanium and Sapphire, besides the fact that the face looks fancier? I’ve been doing a bit of research and but it’s still not very clear to me.

            • +1

@GreenRomeo: Idk, I'm sure someone on here would know about the differences between the two.

            • +2

@GreenRomeo: Different movements, different brands, watches are mostly about who made them. Citizen make good watches though, I resold the Seiko presage I bought for a profit somehow as it doesn't have anything over my titanium Citizen.

              • @Aileri: Thanks, it’s interesting. Not much different to fashion isn’t it?

                • +1

@GreenRomeo: They are fashion, in the same way luxury cars are fashion, yeah you do need a way to tell the time or travel independently, but often the cheaper methods are just as good or sometimes even more reliable. So the people paying for these at the very top end are looking to flex, or at least "appreciate the mechanical /horological/automotive history" , but it's just being human to like a little bit of flash/status symbols
