I got this because I gave my SARB017 and my hulk Sumo to my dad, so I've been looking for green watches. I like this because it's smaller at 38mm and cleaner without the internal bezel, and has a textured dial. I paid $770 at DJs and there is one left so you can try to price match with Linda.

Seiko Prospex Alpinist GMT SPB377J

Description:

The watch described features a robust automatic movement, meaning it is powered by the motion of the wearer’s wrist. Its calibre type is analogue with a 3-hand GMT function, allowing for precise timekeeping across multiple time zones. The watch boasts impressive accuracy, with a deviation of +25 to -15 seconds a day within the normal temperature range of 5°C to 35°C. It also offers an exceptional power reserve of up to 70 hours, ensuring it stays reliable even during extended periods of non-use.
The timepiece is designed for aquatic adventures, boasting a water resistance of up to 200 metres, making it suitable for recreational diving. The case is constructed from durable stainless steel, providing both a sturdy build and an elegant aesthetic. With a diameter of 39.5mm, the case strikes a balance between a substantial presence on the wrist and a comfortable fit.
The watch features a striking silver case color, complemented by a blue leather strap, adding a touch of sophistication to its overall appearance. The strap is identified by the reference code L0HE02EJ0. The timepiece also incorporates a curved sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on the inside, ensuring clear visibility of the dial under various lighting conditions.
Additionally, the watch is equipped with a screw-down crown and an inner rotating bezel. These features enhance its functionality, providing ease of use and added versatility for measuring elapsed time or tracking a second time zone. Overall, this timepiece offers a blend of precision, durability, and style, making it a reliable companion for both everyday wear and underwater adventures.

I got this during the Qantas sale for $1071, as well as the LE white dial because FOMO. When you go above $1K, I'd rather a Citizen with a Cal. 9054

This has a 6R54, which is a "caller" GMT, same as the 4R34/NH34. AFAIK Seiko do have a "true GMT", the 6R64, which is only used in some Presage Sharp Edge models.

I'm not a GMT snob, but I wrote a novel about GMT movements in this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881755

If you want a "true/traveller/flyer" GMT, you can get the Bulova Devil Diver GMT 41mm 97B215 for almost half the price with a Miyota Cal. 9075. Otherwise you can get 4R34 "caller" GMTs in Seiko 5s for less than $400:

SB are selling those at the same price, but I linked WD because you can get $20 off with signup. I bought the black one from SB for $399 and put a black engineer bracelet on it.

Had a simple search and this appears cheaper for $825 Seiko Prospex 'Alpinist' Automatic Watch Green Textured Dial SPB155J

And I don't know anything about it - Is this watch popular?

    • +2

The original SARB017 is a cult favourite; it's very popular with some people. Like every watch, some people love it, others don't. This is the simpler, cleaner looking "baby" version.

I saw that Watson's had the same price but only 4 or 5 left. HS has 1 left at $825. DJs jas 1 left at $770. You need a minimum of 10 units available to post, but you can use DJs or HS to price match with Linda & Co.

F that. You'd have to love red and still wouldn't pay over $750.

      • Sold out anyway? Not a fan of that colourway myself.

        • Yes it's just another colour don't feed the hype.

          • @G-rig: C'mon man where's the Aussie pride it's the outback on your wrist, oi oi oi

          • @G-rig: I already own the SARB017, if I was to get another Alpinist I think the best one going is the SPB409 Limited Edition silver dial. It's overpriced RRP $2,200, I've seen it as low as ~$1,250; I feel it's still a sub-$1,000 watch.

So for better value you can still pick up the black dial SPB117 with shark teeth indices, which is a little beauty, around $700 on sale.

@jirskyr: Yeah I wouldn't pay that much it would have to be under $950 or something but even so it's a lot of money for Limited Editions. It's a really nice variant though.

Agree, I like like the SPB117 and $762 at Starbuy is pretty reasonable. The green one is kind of the signature colour but depends how much you like green/gold.

              • @G-rig: I don't know, this one SPB155J has a sort of metallic texture on the dial; it reminds me more of the Green Tea finishes in the Presage line.

I believe the SPB121 is a very close recreation of the original, however it's got a cyclops which is not my preference. Some people also don't like the Prospex logo on the SPB121, but that doesn't bother me.
