$1000+ for a Citizen… hard sell at this price point.
yeah strange price policy, I thought they got the Bulova brand for the premium segment
Bulova aren't better just different haha.
Not a brand I like but they have a few belters. No, "The Citizen" is their premium brand and is priced around Grand Seiko range. Their automatic Cal. 0200/0210 exceeds Swiss COSC certification, and their Eco-Drive Cal. 0100 is +/- 1 second per year.
Depends on what you want out of a watch. I've paid close to a grand for an Eco-Drive, and there are many others that are well over 1K
Good discount (what you would expect to pay), can't say any grab me with all the sharp angles and overly expensive.
I assume they are citizen's higher end offerings to compete with the higher end Seikos (eg. 62MAS and Willard reissue with 6R35).
Love what citizen is doing with some of their other models which you can get for $300-500 on a Starbuy special, but don't see the point of these. I'd rather spend more on a HAQ but missed the boat on those Chronomasters. An Astron @ 40% off would be cool.
Thanks OP, copped the NB6066-51W for $1200 with a Cal. 9051 anti-magnetic movement accurate to -10/+20 s/day. I also have a Fujitsubo with the same movement which I got for $700 which was an absolute bargain. I'm seriously thinking about getting the LE NB6026-56L and selling the other one. I also have the NB6004-83E which is an abolute tank. I got the NB6066-51W because of the copper dial and internal rotaing bezel which is uncommon for divers, and I'm a sucker for LEs.
The cheapest/most common Swiss comparison is the Sellita SW200-1 Special grade movement accurate +/-7 to +/- 20 s/day. Using the NB6026-56L as an example; a Swiss ISO certified diver with an anti-scratch titanium case and bracelet, with an antimagnetic movement that isn't the bottom grade, for under $2k would be impossible.
I also have the NA1010-84X which I paid about $1400. It has a Cal. 9050 which is accurate to -5/ +10 s/day and also anto magnetic. The Sellita equivalent would be the Premium grade (just under COSC grade) accurate to +/-4 to +/- 15 s/day. I got it because I really like the dial very accurate movement.
Now for the best bargain. I got the NB6032-53P for about $1600. It has a "true/traveller" Cal. 9054 GMT movement accurate to -10/+20 s/day. The other two models NB6030-59L and NB6031-56E have been on sale at SB for $1200, and I almost pulled the trigger on the Batman a couple times, but untimately decided on the blinged out LE. I think the non-LE models at $1350 are still a bargain.
AFAIK, there are no affordable Sellita or Soprod "true/traveller" GMT movements, only "office/caller" ones like the SW330-2 and C125 (with different grades up to COSC) which are based on the ETA Cal. 2893-2. There is a not ridiculously expensive ETA "true" GMT (sorry can't remember cal. no) which is basically a modified Powermatic 80, otherwise you're looking at high-end luxury watches like a Rolex GMT Master II, or a Grand Seiko with a Cal. 9S86 if you want a "true" GMT watch. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this info because I don't really keep up with Swiss watches or movements in general.
There's the Miyota 9075 (basically a 9054 with lower pr) which is in the Bulova Devil Diver GMT 41mm 97B215 for $800 which is incredible value. The Miyota 9075 is also used in a lot of microbrands because it's pretty much the only "true" GMT available, there are at few quartz ones like the Ronda… 515, and the auto Seiko NH34 which is a "caller" GMT.
I bought a Zodiac GMT with an in-house Cal. STP 7-20 movement, but it's not a true GMT. There's another Zodiac GMT but uses a Soprod C125. The Ball 40mm Roadmaster Marine GMT BE uses a modified COSC ETA 2893-2 with pusher buttons, and $3K isn't bad. The Squale 40.5mm SUB-39GMTB.BR22 uses the Sellita SW330-1. None of these Swiss watches use "true/traveller" GMT movements, and except for the Ball, the movements are most likely the bottom grade.
So this whole novel is essentially to say that Citizen 8s are (profanity) dope, much better than similarly priced Seiko 6Rs (which I own a lot of), very well made with interesting designs and dial, and in the case of the Cal. 9054, you really can't get anything close to it in terms of specs and movement if you want a proper GMT watch. for under $2K.
Maybe except the Bulova I linked. If you want a "true/traveller" GMT diver (I recently bought a similar looking rose gold Rolex GMT Master II for an obscene amount of money), $800 is as good as it's gonna get unless you look at microbrands with a 9075 which I'm not gonna do because I spent way too much time on this comment already.
mate just my 5 cents, no offence - maybe it's better to buy one Rolex instead of 5 "good" Citizens?)
No offence taken, just clearing up a few things and providing a rebuttal to the "lol Citizen for over $1k" misconception.
Also your comment:
yeah strange price policy, I thought they got the Bulova brand for the premium segment
I don't like Rolex, I only buy them as gifts. The one I got is more like 50 "good" Citizens.
Beautiful watches, have been looking at them. Would be hard to pick out of those if just getting one. I'd probably want 40mm.
Just like any other citizens and Seikos the RRP is laughable. 40% off is a lot more palatable.
Thanks OP!
Which is your favorite one?
